Final 3 Soaps On the Air: What's Next?
if more soaps are created, theybwoukd have to come up with a cheaper and less taxing model of production. Lets say each soap 1 day a week. Mon Y&R, Tue B&B, Wed ATWT, Thu GL, Fri something new? (or) Y&R Mon-Wed, B&B Thu-Fri

maybe its me but i dont think nudity or cursing really adds anything to a show's story. Bill and Li👀👀👀👀 A flashback with Stephanie!!!!!

Final 3 Soaps On the Air: What's Next?
Despite this, both Bold and Y&R have dwindling budgets and crap shot writing. Both shows could stand to benefit from less episode output should they ever move online. The very frequent interruption of programming for "Special Reports" some of which could easily wait until scheduled newscast times, I'm sure has not helped daytime tv, especially soaps. The reports arent five minutes either, sometimes they take up a show's entire time slot with nothing but conjecture.

DID aka Multiple Personalities on Soaps
I see a lot of longtime fans on the threads don't really like that story. I didn't really mind the plot because of, as I mentioned, how they gave Tess more of a distinct identity compared to Nikki.

Final 3 Soaps On the Air: What's Next?
With SoapNet dead I think GH should do a 60 classic episode release on Hulu featuring it's biggest storylines. In terms of big returns, Brenda, Johnathan Jackson as Lucky, Steve Burton👀, and Luke being alive. Perhaps Jeff Webber being recasted. I'd like Y&R to go big for it's 50th to generate some buzz around the show. If soaps are moved to streaming I think 1 hour long episode a week, with huge cast trimmings would do them good. (Or two half-hour episodes per week).

Final 3 Soaps On the Air: What's Next?
It's 10 years after the great soap purge of 2008-2012. The decade long streak of no soaps being taken off tv has finally been broken with the unsurprising yet surprising news that Days of Our Lives is transitioning to streaming. What's next for the remaining three soaps? furthermore how long do you estimate The Bold and the beautiful, the the young & the restless, and General Hospital have left?? Personally I think General Hospital will be the next show to make the transition (either to streaming or outright cancellation) after its 60th. I think Y&R and B&B will go at the same time. If they are individually taken off CBS, conventional wisdom says B&B will go first because it's the lower rated show. I do think there's a strong possibility however that Y&R could go first being that Bold has a larger international audience.

you've made absolutely fair points here. there is a great convenience in being able to move TV around with you no matter where you go, or what room you are in at your convenience. I love being able to pull up an episode of days from 1996 at will on YouTube! I just wish streaming and broadcast television coexisted rather than one being a result of the collapse of the other. Just dawning on me that with DAYS gone, NBC Daytime has finally collapsed after years of faltering behind CBS and ABC in terms of soaps especially. I know change happens and all that stuff but it kind of sucks. Never did I imagine about 12-13 years ago that broadcast television would cave like this. it's amazing how cable was the next big thing and just fell to streaming so quickly.

Amen! It's kind of insulting to ask longtime fans to now pay for a poorly written show operating on a shoestring budget, that was free when it was better quality. As much as I love soaps, some of them have been begging for cancelation they way they've been written and presented in the past 17-20 years.

Who knows maybe the future of soaps is once or twice a week on streaming. Less scripts, better production values, smaller casts, better writing. Maybe. What saddens with the collapse of soaps and daytime tv in general (even primetime) is the loss of appointment viewing. Everybody tuning in at the same time daily to have a show to talk about at the water cooler. There's a certain comfort and joy in knowing you're home sick from work but Days of Our Lives is 1:00 , Judge Judy and Oprah are on at 4:00. Something to look forward to daily. As much as I love streaming I will say people still complain about the lack of things to watch because over abundance of choice leads to paralysis. There's something nice about having shows chosen for you (in a addition to choosing what you want to watch and when you want to watch it).

With the current state of soaps I wouldn't buy a subscription service to see newer episodes😬. With the added promise of the entire classic library available that might be a seller.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Moves to Peacock From NBC on September 12
WOW! After 57 years. I always knew that Days would be the first to go in the final 4 soaps, being that it had the worst budget among them. The lighting was at it's cheapest point and sets just keeps getting smaller and more repetitive. At least this isn't a full blown cancelation, and the idea of soaps on streaming might be more acceptable this time around versus when All My Children and One Life to Live tried it in 2013. As soaps continue to go the way of the dodo bird I doubt that more news and more short term talkshows is the answer. Moreover, the news we will get is more of the same: inflation, January 6th, COVID, the supreme court and pop culture, no unique international coverage, just wash rinse repeat. Wishful thinking but hopefully we get a one week marathon or something of DAYS biggest moments (on TV) or of it's not there already DAYS' entire library should be made available on streaming.

General Hospital: August 2022 Discussion Thread
Ahh yes the good old "parapet". First Catherine Bell now Esme! I thought Elizabeth would've been absorbed of that guilt being that Peter was alive? I saw this from a mile away: Williow has aplastic anemia (or in this case lukemia), needs a bone marrow transplant, Nina is a match, maternity revealed, dot dot dot. As annoying as Willow's story can be, I feel sorry for her charachter during this story.

General Hospital: August 2022 Discussion Thread
Are we gonna get a y&r style anniversary episode for Elizabeth?? Furthermore are they allowed to use Steve Burton's images as flashbacks including Jason would be critical to Liz's history? Would be nice if Johnathan Jackson, Audrey, her sister Sarah, Ric and Xander could all make an appearance. Emily's ghost too perhaps.

Which Long Absent Soap Character You would like To Return?
GH: Brenda! as everyone expressed she can come cause trouble for Carly and Nina! Maybe even a romance with an alive Jason might put her at odds with Sonny, Carly, Sam and Britt. Y&R: I'd say Mamie, Drucilla and Olivia. The entire Winters clan is dull and void of storyline, and needs some life. I have no confidence in the current regime to write anything remotely interesting for them. B&B: Mary! Sheila's actual daughter! She can share her struggles with Finn and maybe even add Sheila's fake daughter with Massimo to the mix for more drama. All of the Sheila historical re-writes from 2007-2022 have been complete crap with random kids coming out of the woodwork. Classic case of taking a character and going overboard. Jackie (and maybe Nick), the Marone family was more interesting to me than the Spencers or new Spectras.

DID aka Multiple Personalities on Soaps
It's crazy how much of OLTL's entire run featured Viki's DID. Though the Jessica/Tess plot isn't popular amongst many longtime viewers, I did appreciate that Tess had more of a fleshed out story than Nikki. Nikki just wanted to escape Viki and cause trouble. Tess wanted her own life. She had her own romance away from the entire town with Nash, and viewers got to actually spend time with Tess as a separate entity compared to Nikki.

How Core Families Die
A newer generation hasn't really been promoted well enough. once Victor, Nikki and Jack go, you can wrap the show up basically. Core families work on a show like ATWT which was reliant on a more transitional and conservative soap audience, and went for multi a generational cast of characters. Core families also work on a large casted show like GH where there are several families (Cassadines, Quartermaines, Spencers) but enough characters outside of them so that everything doesn't become B&B level incestuous.

I'm surpised at $Bill's kindness when finding Li. Plus Im surpsied he didn't just secretly call an ambulance instead of offering to take a stranger to his house? Li struggling to say Sheila reminds me of a stroke disabled Molly Carter trying to reveal the baby switch. Good to see Finn being more than an oblivious doofus for a change!

GH: Classic Thread
Ahhhhhh copy!!! My familiarity with DOOL is not too strong! Kim's story was poorly done. she was never used as the villain she could've been. I would've rather seen her break up Sonny and Carly's marriage than Nina, had she been written more similar to the character she played as Carly. Sarah Brown's return as Claudia was a better done storyline with more long reaching consequences.
