B&B October 2022 Discussion Thread
The Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle is beyond played out--but if anything--Ridge belongs with pre 2002 Taylor. Brooke belongs with Eric, and Stephanie deserved someone comitted to her like IDK Massimo or something. Taylor and Brooke need to accept that Ridge cant make up his mind and leave him -- or accept a sister wives arrangement -- because 32 years is too loong for this stale a** love triangle. Speaking of beyond played out, they switched to Liam/Hope/Steffy, because the their parents triangle was exhausted, yet the showrunners have worn this triangle thin aswell! Hope fits well with someone like Finn, but just stick her with Liam and move on. Steffy needs someone just as scheming as her like Dollar Bill.

the cps stuff reminds me of when Stephanie called them on Brooke:

Actor you are tired of seeing on a soap
Easton has ran through too many charachters to care at this point, none of which compare to his best character John McBain. Howarth has also ran through too many characters and I don't care to see him in any role but Todd.... and not early era dark moody Todd, but dark humorous Todd.

Have Nikki and Sheila ever interacted or crossed paths? Old school Y&R was adept at keeping charachters in bubbles without years of interaction.

GH: Classic Thread
96 may have been the last overall solid year but the show has had decent years storylines past that point. Riche leaving was the first strike but there were watchable moments during JFP's run. 2012-14 was a decent improvement. 2015-17 until Steve Burton's return was low point. Now we may be back to a low point again with cast bloating and unorganized plots. This is in contrast to say Y&R which has a clear decline point of 2005, with issues beginning in 2002.

DAYS: September 2022 Discussion Thread ⌛
no surprise that NBC News Daily isn't performing well in the ratings. The show feels like Early Today. Just a dry newcast with no personality. https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2022/09/daytime-broadcast-ratings-for-the-week-of-september-12-16-2022

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Looking back at Betty White's exit, B&B was really excellent at handling charachters deaths. Ann & Stwphanie's deaths were very realistic and hard to sit through. It was kind of insulting that Stephanie died in Brooke's arms only for Brooke to sleep with her sister's husband the very next year. Beautiful scene nonetheless though, lol.

Most Insufferable Characters in Soaps today
Steffy Forrester! We get it, you don't like Brook. The dialogue doesn't have to be reiterated every living episode. Furthermore 30-odd-year-old Steffy is obsessed with reuniting her helicopter parents. Move on.

AGREED! Something to commemorate the fact that it will no longer be on broadcast television after 57 years. That is quite literally momentous.

DAYS: September 2022 Discussion Thread ⌛
It doesn't even seem like I'm watching the final (tv) episode. I was expecting to see Deidre Hall or somebody at the beginning of the show thanking fans for their long devotion and so on. Instead it was just another normal episode like nothing was even happening. The last few minutes of DAYS being preempted is the story of modern soaps: mercilessly interupted by often unnecesary news bulletins from overzealous news organizations, desperate to put something on the air even if it's just rambling speculation. You'd think that after 57 years they could wait two minutes. To be fair, the King Charles special report was justifiable but it's still stings.

GH: Classic Thread
Agreed! the Qs were really lumped all together as one bunch in the 2000s! I loved seeing Alan and Monica as the lead of their own stories in the 70s-90s. Alan and Monica's best years were their most vicious and toxic: (79-83). The Rick Weber and Susan Moore storylines. The 90s added more humanism and emotional weight to their characters, rather than just the bickering war of the roses. In the 90s we got to see scenes like Alan's emotional reaction to Edward in the hospital and Monica's breast cancer. Speaking of the early 2000s and Rick Weber, it's crazy how long the ramifications of his murder lasted. It was still affecting story as late as 2008. I think I recall Alan and Lulu mentioning it during the 2007 hostage crisis.

Tony was another casualty of Sonny/Carly/Jason along with Aj and Bobbie. The show backburnered a whole class of charachters in the early 00s including: Mac, Felicia, Bobbie, Scott, Lucy, Kevin (went over to PC). Alan & Monica kind of drifted to backbuner. Having grown up on mid 2000s GH you'd never realize the aforementioned were major players at one time.

Never really seen much of Tony pre BJ's death. First coming across Tania's death story line it's just as tragic as BJ's. It featurs basically all of the same players: Friscoe, Felicia, Bobbie, Lucy. Wow, Tony just couldn't catch a break. To make matters worse, he basically became irrelevant after 1998. I forget Tony was on as late as 2005 when I saw him in this clip concerning Faith Roscoe's death.

Article: “The Dirty Dozen; Y&R’s Most Regrettable Recasting Decisions“
I think Maura could have worked as her own character and not Diane. I could see why the producers would want to cast as Diane given the troublesome role she played is Carly. The work she's doing now as Ava would further lead you to think that she'd be effective for a villainess like Diane Jenkins. Ultimately it didn't work. I could however definitely see someone malicious but vulnerable like Ava Jerome taking on Victor and Nikki etc.. She would've been an effective recast of a resurected Faith Roscoe on GH.

Article: Soap Opera Actors & Actresses Who Simply Cannot Be Recast
did a thread about this a while back. certain characters I think are unrecastable: Victor Y&R, Stephnie B&B, Stefano DAYS, Erica AMC, Viki (after Erika Slezac) OLTL, Sally Spectra B&B, Jason Morgan B&B, Todd Manning OLTL. The actors who played the characters I've listed, owned their role to a point where it'd be hard to except anyone else playing such character. Steve Burton is the only person that can effectively play Jason. His recast did not go well. Likewise, despite Trevor St. John's great run, Roger Howorth is the only person who can put Todd's comedy, violence, and animated mannerisms on full display.

Never realized Thomas had all those things on his record! I doubt that flashback will be brought up in a recent episode. SB: Brooke looks great these last two episode!

Agreed that his gray streak was natural. He had it on the UPN sitcom The Parkers as well.

Hard to argue with this list. A big asterix next to Amelia Heinle as Victoria. that's Aiken to re-casting Emma Sams versus Pamela Sue Martin to play Fallon Carrington. Attitude and boldness to demure and quiet strength. I don't mind David Tom given that he was the second best Billy (based on his early 2000s tenure) after Billy Miller. He probably needed more time to warm up to the role. I would have to agree. I like Gina Tognoni but she was not Phyllis for me. She just came off so hard (for lack of a better term) in the role. I didn't see much of her tenure on Guiding Light but even then she had big shoes to fill after Wendy Moniz's Dinah. Firstly Sandra Nelson and secondly Michelle Stafford were better as Phyllis.
