  1. A lot of beltway media has always hated Pelosi. This isn't going to change those opinions. What matters is she humiliated Trump and came out of this unquestionably looking very strong - and they will report that. That is very important for us going forward. There is a generation of Democratic voters who hear Bernie's platitudes but until now have never seen what Nancy can do.
  2. Wow!
  3. I pray they take the out, but I feel like their government in power is too cowardly to do so.
  4. That also baffled me, but they tried to explain it away by him being adopted by, I guess abusive Americans?? I never had a problem buying DAM with women but yes, he was well known to be a huge queen even then.
  5. As the exasperating Maggie Haberman correctly indicates, Trump doesn't want a CoS, which is just another indicator of how colossally stupid he is. He sees the position as one for people who try to tell him what to do. Trump has allegedly begun asking people about their opinions of Pence recently. That is usually his lead-in to freezing them out, demeaning them and trying to force them to leave (because he can't stand direct confrontation). Good luck, pal.
  6. I was a young viewer at the time with no background at CBS - I had come up with OLTL, GH and AMC as relatively grounded and mostly solid soaps for much of the '90s. The shitty Rauch lighting, tacky blondes, middle aged screaming people and fake kingdom drove me away. ATWT wasn't much better at the time.
  7. San Cristobel was embarrassing at the time and worse now. Tacky, poorly lit blonde people screaming on a fake island that had NOTHING to do with that show and turned me off seriously watching it for years.
  8. I'm not stupid enough to put my damn email on this board! I'll PM you sometime.

Moffat's worst day is more interesting than Chibnall's best.

I gave Chibnall a shot, but he has benefitted tremendously from a massive media push, the novelty of the paradigm shift of a female Doctor, and the natural change in the prior old DW order which was ready to end. Because of those factors, I think regardless of the showrunner you would've still seen a similar viewer surge as we've seen this year with a new Doctor and focus, especially a female one. I welcomed Jodie, still do and think she deserves a lot better than the frankly bland show I feel he's putting out. Drama credentials aside, Chibnall has never been among the top tier of available Who/sci-fi talent and has given her the least creatively formidable start of any modern Doctor IMO. Even Series 2 had its highlights and took risks. I just don't feel he has. And I don't feel he will. And it's a shame, because the sooner Jodie Whittaker gets a very strong team behind her the better. This is no way to showcase the first female star of this series. My personal feelings about Chibnall's run aside though, I don't think the show is in a position of weakness right now, at least not in the public eye and with its figures. I think it could very easily be, if they continue to just let the show amble along and take a ton of time off. It's not smart, IMO. Strike while the iron is hot, because this is the hottest the franchise has been in several years. (And I say that as someone who thought Capaldi and Moffat managed a minor miracle rebooting the show's tone and style in Series 8 and never got enough credit for it.) I feel this is primed for a Series 7 type of malaise, and neither Chibnall nor anyone else involved is remotely prepared to weather that IMO. I should probably dial it back before I'm turning into one of the doomsayers who thought every new year since 2005 was 1989 all over again. We're definitely not anywhere near there - the numbers are great and it's very hot with the public atm. I just wish Jodie Whittaker was getting a better show and a better overall situation.

Oh, for fùck's sake, Chibnall. I have never felt he was ready for this job and this does nothing to change that.
  12. Folks are making a lot out of Kyle's use of the 'hand over mouth' emoji here. I think it's probably just a joke, but still:
  13. I'm sure you're just as popular there. Actually, in doing that with my sig what I'm doing is controlling the perception of you long after you are soon banned - much like the first quote I harvested from an insane Beth Ehlers fan. You are one of the most hated posters we've had in years, and that's saying something. Immortalizing you as a laughingstock only enriches my own life, you drooling Nazi swine.
  14. I didn't know until Errol said it the other day that he's apparently left most board moderation up to literally just Toups. At that rate we'll be told to "just ignore him" for nine months until Toups gets done reading the ratings. Seeing as you are now sticking up for the word "Aryan" post-World War II, let me just tell you that using your full name on the Internet in 2018 is a big mistake for you if someone comes along more vindictive than any of us. And I'm saying that as a Jew.
  15. This board has discussed the issues of racism in daytime and entertainment since its inception years ago, Jarrod - and many of us are not black. We just have no problem discussing these issues. We are definitely not going to stop for you, so you may as well accept that. You're one of the most wildly ignorant and nasty posters we've ever had. It's no wonder you've apparently been banned virtually everywhere else you've been. This is going in the sig!
  16. I think the actress is fine. She just hasn't had much material beyond jokes which I feel she's delivered well. She is simply a very new character in a 30-year ensemble that has had to completely rebuild its show and group dynamics from scratch, so digging deep into Geena is not their first priority, which is fine. But they will need to go deeper into her soon or next season.
  17. Catching up on last week: Mark telling Dan "I have no way to pay forward the love you give me!" (and getting snaps from Geena while the others applauded) was hilarious. As was him picking up after Becky and trading barbs with her, proving he's not all daisies and light. This is why I think super-sunny, optimistic Mark who is so unlike the children Dan and Roseanne raised works as a contrast to the others; he is articulate and mostly happy because of Darlene's parenting and his somewhat oblivious take on their attitudes and worldview counters the others well. (And he's likely to hit some harsh realities in Lanford in potential future seasons as he comes into his own identity more.) I wish Crystal had stayed happily retired but if it means giving more airtime to Natalie West I get it - some retired people do get bored fast. I was pleased to see the casino back because I was worried the new job at the paper meant they were going to fluff off Darlene's prior job entirely; part of what I loved about the original series was the running plot threads of the Conners' ongoing work struggles. Roseanne at Wellman, the beauty shop, the mall, the Lunch Box, etc. were all different phases of her life; same with Dan and the slow failure of the bike shop. They may have had Darlene quit the casino by making Ben give her benefits, but they closed the thread out from one season to the next. Seeing these kind of ongoing threads continue with Darlene and presumably Becky in future is great. I do love Ben, and Jay R. Ferguson is always so hot and talented in any show or film he does. He is clearly meant to be the anti-David, but he also heavily channeled Dan this week, as many have said. I do hope he's not just a romantic obstacle for a possible Darlene and David reunion, or if he is that he is a fairly longterm one. They don't have Johnny Galecki for much for at least another year and I think I may prefer Ben at this stage of Darlene's life. Dan had some great lines. "Like many accomplished men, I was up knocking cats off my chicken coop with a broom." And telling D.J. he broke his wrist walking across a room and they weren't going to give him a treehouse. And the Dan/Jackie stuff was actually pretty astutely sensitive. I liked the exploration of the Darlene/Becky relationship. It's become much more important now (and to a certain extent last season) than it's been since the early seasons of the original show, but it's also inverted from what it once was - Becky is now the screw-up by virtue of how her life has gone, and Darlene is the relatively together guiding force. This was not the case when they were kids and young teens, and it's also fascinating seeing Becky kind of become the early Jackie opposite Darlene's Roseanne. I also feel it's true to both characters since for better or worse, once Becky married Mark, for as much as they loved each other her life and future completely derailed. She was working a Hooters-type job as early as Season 7 or something. But now she has some hope for the future both as a woman and a mother, and I do love Lecy Goranson's performance with Sara Gilbert as well as the devastating shot of her looking through the lesbians' window as she left. Lecy also delivers the most cold lines so well. "Just walk away from him! The baby's not gonna find you!" I cackled. More Geena, please! They've had a lot to juggle this season in addition to adding a new regular, so hopefully if there is a renewal (and knock on wood I think there will be) they'll dig deeper with her.
