As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Feel free to share your wildest writing fantasies sometime in public or private. I'm always curious to see how people would revive these shows, even ATWT which is one of the furthest from my mind given how decayed it sadly became. (I have a silly idea for an AMC/OLTL 2.0-style GL revival floating way back in the board archives from the heady days of 2013...)

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
It's not animosity, it's wanting the board to work properly, and I'm not the only one who's addressed it. I have nothing against you personally. I do have a big problem with the administration and upkeep of the forum being largely absent. And the reason people are calling it out is because it's becoming rather pressing in ongoing discussions. And part of the reason we do this is because historically the only time we've been able to get you guys to move on any immediate problem on this forum is by hectoring you directly. I doubt I need to remind you of last year. I actually don't like doing that because I think yours is a thankless job, so maybe it can be delegated. I don't care whether it's you, Toups or some faceless drone from Invision or whatever. Just please find a way to deal with it so we don't have to deal with some of these people. Jarrod is wrong on many levels. On the one hand, he spouts inaccurate information about BTS creative decisions and hierarchy. On the other, he is a bigot.

You should really quote that properly so no one mistakes it for your post, lol. Seriously though, coming onto this board, which has discussed these issues for well over a decade, and announcing you do not want to talk about race on soaps (an incredibly racist subgenre) because it makes you uncomfortable, and then saying that black people should just get over it takes a special kind of cluelessness. It's actually astonishing.

Thank God the Ignore feature no longer works! Right, @Errol? Also, speak for yourself, Jarrod. In case you haven't noticed in the last six to nine months it's you vs. the entire board.

I think he works very well as a contrast to Dan especially, but to most of them. Geena definitely needs to be beefed up, but I'm giving them time since this whole show was thrown together practically overnight.

I think that kid is great because he's so unlike the other Conners. He's exactly the kind of insanely sunny, articulate kid Darlene and David would've raised in an urban liberal enclave who is a complete fish out of water in Lanford. I just think he's a joy because he's different. And I'm pretty sure that difference is why he was cast - to contrast the others and just be a purely sweet, happy kid who has no concept of a harsher world or anything coming his way in terms of prejudice. His interactions with Dan (and previously Roseanne) are always so happy while Dan just seems befuddled that he's so bright and bubbly all the time - his best moment was asking if Dan went to college for drywall. I don't think it's fair to say Geena or Mary are 'box-ticking.' Roseanne wanted D.J. to marry Geena the little black girl from the old show for a long time, I think - and having a black grandchild(?) she also wanted that in the new show. These impulses come from the same place they always did creatively, drawing from Roseanne's life. Do I think there needs to be more of Geena, yes, but I think that can come in time. Nor do I think the al-Harazis, etc. are any different than the kind of progressive choices in supporting characters than we saw in the original series.

A few years ago. Also has Grace Zabriskie from TP. This is the trailer. I should clarify it looks sexy, if rote plot-wise. But a lovely trailer.

Ferguson was so, so, so hot on Real O'Neals. He's still hot here and I do love him with Darlene. I just wish the very sexy indie film he did with Twin Peaks star Sheryl Lee would finally come out.

The Politics Thread
My first memory of George H.W. Bush is a cranky, annoyed old man who seemed to be lecturing the camera all the time. I remember him on the campaign trail with Tabitha Soren on MTV in '92. He never recovered from that with the youth. His loss seemed inevitable. But he was just a different kind of person. Bush Sr. was a lot of things and did a lot of things I didn't agree with. His record has a host of lowlights and many of us will never forget how his campaigns were run against women and people of color and gays in a very different time. But he wasn't slime and he had a core of decency. A different breed from today's GOP, even if some of his choices did help create them. RIP.

Fuller House
Rumors abound that Netflix plans to cancel FH after Season 4 next month. I'll miss it despite myself - it's so silly and often dumb and embarrassing as hell, but can also be really funny (unlike the original show) and has a lot of heart and love for its long history.

The right wing social media machine loves to napalm Twitter. But no, it was never going to be on in winter and it is quite likely to be renewed by most metrics unless the cast is done.- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
It's not on schedule for the winter, but was never going to be due to the nature of its small run and Metcalf/Goodman's other commitments. Articles say a decision will be made later in the spring.- "The Conners" Discussion Thread

And I'm telling you that much of the time in the last 20 years a lot of those "consultants" were ignored unless they were network stakeholders like Brian Frons, Barbara Bloom or Angelica McDaniel. When you say they're accountable to the consultants, you're saying these writers' work has to get past them to air. It very regularly did without approval from many of the people who had a glorified title. The Bells have very, very little involvement with Y&R today. They are not controlling that show or its creative direction and have not in a number of years, going as far back as perhaps Lynn Marie Latham. This has been widely reported for over a decade. If you believe otherwise you are deeply misinformed. This sums up your posting history well.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That's not how consulting on soaps works. The titles can be important but they are also often largely ceremonial. Many 'consultants' on soaps have ideas regularly dismissed and were just there as wallpaper, especially in the last 20 years. Including Agnes Nixon at AMC in much of the 2000s, and Kay Alden at Y&R in the last couple years. Their ideas and opinions were regularly dismissed by management, the EP or in some cases the HW. I have never heard any viable claim that Swajeski or Culliton or any other consulting writer had to clear the HWs' work at GL as consultants.- The Politics Thread
