DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
I was exaggerating for the sake of humor, but Brady does seem more interested in talking smack about Theresa and Nicole, than providing solace. I apologize for misunderstanding the lack of preference for subtlety here, except when discussing the controversial opinions of celebrities. Additionally, I find it confusing when people show deference towards actors, who are strangers, yet ignore or criticize the wishes of those they interact with daily in this forum. My bad.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
My lingering thought was, where did he hear the news? It's the same day. The Spectator hasn't been published yet, and there are no reporters on the scene. Yet, Tate seems aware that not only was Theresa held hostage, but also that Konstantin killed Victor. I mean, Xander was just released from police questioning. Theresa and Maggie are busy. I doubt anyone involved tweeted about it, or posted RIP Konnie on Facebook. 🙄

A Different World (TV Series)
As much as I don't love a re-boot of any kind, these are fascinating times to set a sitcom on the campus of a HBCU. My only question would be where would one derive the comedy from in the situation? I wouldn't want an obtuse Whitley-type needing to learn lessons on modern culture, just as I wouldn't want to make fun of young students fighting for awareness and representation.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
It's somewhat amusing that in their universe, Brady and Theresa just got it on last night. Because Brady is in the mansion due to the fact that he spent the night there and then went to the wedding the next morning. Which means Theresa slept with Brady, got dressed, was held at gunpoint, and then had trauma-sex with Alex. Pretty wild. Also, am I correct that the first time Brady saw Eric this week, he asked if he was OK working with Nicole, but didn't say bupkis about losing Jude or Sloan? The man's a neanderthal.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
I'll admit it is a hot take, but I actually think her behavior and opinions track, albeit in a messed up way. Just as she would support a man for president who publically humiliated her, she was willing to continue working for the former producer had she not been dismissed. Her lawsuit is not only based on harassment, the allegations are that she faced retaliation for trying to make a complaint to HR. So, in theory, if she had not been fired then she might not have quit, despite being humiliated on set in front of her peers for years. I believe her, and I certainly don't blame her, but the alignment of the situations seemed reasonable.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
Personally, it is always a disappointment when people vote based on the mistaken belief that the federal government's role to protect their income versus their civil rights, but that's a discussion for another thread. And I wish people would move this discourse to the behind the scenes thread, where it belongs. If only because I dislike when our banter gets derailed by BTS BS which is off-topic of what is streaming currently. I understand that people get excited about knowing more about actors, and I don't expect people to listen to my concerns. But, it seems like the purpose of other threads is to be able to separate the artist from the art (even if calling DAYS art is a bit of a stretch, I think you know what I mean).

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
RonC vilifying an online community is his most obvious projection. The Concerned Citizens of Salem are really just the tool of a one-man conspiracy against a person trying to do their job sounds slightly familiar. As does the writing that the target of their vitriol is obsessed with reading it. However, Tate's been anti-Theresa since he landed in Salem. He seems to have warmed toward Brady, but he was always out of step with his mother. Perhaps, he's just being nice to Brady because there are few sights more pitiful than seeing a man clean up after his ex-wife who is upstairs boffing a guy half his age. Juneteenth Eve turned out to be a very long day. It started with Maggie's wedding, and now Nicole is still at the office with Eric. I guess she hasn't had time to quit since her discussion with EJ about staying home with Jude. Even though working for The Spectator seems like the perfect WFH job. Salem Prom is not only on a federal holiday, but also on a Wednesday? That's inconsiderate both to the school staff, and the memory which the holiday commemorates. Kind of a dumb move to have DAYS honor the occasion annually with Abe and Paulina's anniversary, but also ignore it completely in the teen story.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
Isn't it an odd coincidence that Kim, Jill, Bess, and Maggie all left Riverside for Australia? I realize that Jill and Maggie went there because of Bess. But, I was reading the 1983 synopsis, and it struck me has a weird choice that Kim goes to film a movie in Australia. It was three years before Crocodile Dundee and the Aussie ascendancy in Hollywood. And, I think Kim's and Jill's exits were penned by separate writers. When thinking of places where people emigrate from New York, one rarely thinks of Sydney. So, it really stood out like a sore thumb.

BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Let's not forget that CBS let The Talk limp along for 14 years. And they're still keeping it on air through the end of the year, despite the fact that it was off for six months during the strike, and never recovered its audience. Also, George Cheeks (aka the best grindr pseudonym in LA) championed the show during the upfronts, and he was promoted in the wake of Bob Bakish stepping down as CEO.

ALL: Daytime's Best Dads?
You'd be hard-pressed to find a soap father who hasn't shared a lover (or two) with his son (see Palmer Courtland, Asa Buchanan, Adam Chandler, HB Lewis, CC Capwell, etc…). But, that feels like a low bar in order to be named 'Best Dad'. So, I would nominate Bo Buchanan. While he was supportive, but not present for Drew and David's childhood, the relationship with Matthew was memorable. What I recall the most are the final episodes of OLTL when Bo talked to Matthew about the honor of fatherhood. Matthew was scared about becoming a father while he still felt irresponsible, much like Bo when Drew as conceived. But, rather than preach at Matthew, or chastise him for making poor choices, he talked about how fatherhood had improved his life, and his hopes that it would do the same thing for his son.

Dallas Discussion Thread
I suppose the South Asian Sea oil leases were the Maltese Falcon or the mcguffin for Dallas since season 3, so I could understand the motive to bring in Angelica Nero. And maybe in the hands of another actress, who didn't require endless matching turban ensembles to substitute for an actual dramatic performance, it may have been better. But, the shipping storyline should've served as a background to the Pam vs. JR battle, rather than becoming its own A-story arc. Because the interesting thing about Pam's newfound family is that Wentworth Tool & Die controlled the means of production for Ewing Oil, so that was a more natural source of conflict. And, Jack was no Bobby, and never would be. So, it was silly to introduce him so close to the loss of Patrick Duffy.

Dallas Discussion Thread
If they got rid of the stunt casting and focused on the Pam vs. JR dynamic after the loss of Bobby, that could've been great. One hopes that they didn't pin the drop in ratings on Victoria Principal and instead put the blame on Barbara Carrera and all the surrounding silliness. JR trying to exert control over Pam, interfering with Christopher, and trying to get rid of Mark was fun. And as, explained in this thread, that dynamic was part of the source material. But, even better in season 9, because by then Pam had experience and her own base of power, so she was an equal rival. Yet, once they felt the need to expand beyond Dallas into international intrigue, it became a flop.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Are we to assume that Alex married the Baron to gain freedom and independence from Brandon? Maybe all of her romantic liaisons prior to Fletcher transactional. I mean, Mike, Ross, Warren and HB were not end-game-type relationships. So, perhaps, the attraction to Roger was that he made her feel romantic in a way that she had not experienced with other men. Which is why when she found out that he manipulated her, she felt so betrayed.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
From her recent trumpet solo on the Daytime Stands Up charity special, to her recent red carpet appearances at the Daytime Emmys and the Creative Arts Emmys, I am enjoying Elia Cantu's social media presence. I hope that she'll be able to show more of her humor and personality on the show.

DAYS: June 2024 Spoilers
So, Abigail was kept in a bunker and endured forced beautification treatments? 🙄📛 The drudgery of everyday someone plucking her brows, dying her hair, adding contour. And no mirror to appreciate herself in. Clyde went from drug runner to lip plumper? I'm giving a side-eye to Jack, because last time we saw him, his hair was gray, and now it looks like he's been to the salon as well. 😉

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
IMHO, it is poor form to comment on pirated video from YouTube. It's like taking a croissant out of the trash and complaining that it's not fresh. At the very least, don't tell on yourself and admit where you stole it from. If you want the production values to rise, pay for the subscription. I'm pleased that they remembered the DNA results in the safe. But, I hate that so much happens off-screen. Apparently Mr. Shin is in town for the board meeting, but nobody's talked to him about Gabi? And the idea that Kristen got the job and EJ didn't know seems especially odd given that he has both an assistant in the company who would tell him about a board meeting, and he just bought more stock. (#bringbackEJ'sassistant) The Julie/Chad stuff is cute. But, she seems like an ill-fitting surrogate for either Jack or Jennifer. I know there are rumors of Jack's return. Which makes sense, because despite her protests, Julie shouldn't be running around Chicago, and Doug should not be watching Chad's kids. I think this is a perfect opportunity to bring Stephanie back into the fold, and encourage a Chad/Stephanie friendship, which would bring a new challenge to the Chad/Gabi reunification (not that his sleeping with Ava is going to stay secret for long…) Finally, no signs of an exit storyline for Harris. I hope they don't just wrap him up in a day, like they did with Sloan and Konstantin. I still have whiplash from how quickly those two were dispatched.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
Given how desolate the pub seems these days, I wonder if Roman and Kate make more off of renting rooms than chowder. One imagines the margins are lower, because none of the tenants seem to have appliances, so no need for repairs. Today begged the question of why Lucas traveled back from Montana separately from Harris and Ava? Because they live at the pub as well, but they don't appear to be home yet. @Khan It was recently established from the new digital establishing shots that Marlena, Paulina, and Kayla live in the same building. Also, Chad and Alex had lived across the hall from each other last fall.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
I would argue that absurdity was part of the DNA of DAYS long before RonC. It is the charm of living in Salem. I just object to characters who are suddenly aware of it, and then go back to being obtuse to serve the plot. For example, three different people have caught Theresa and Konstantin in cahoots, but nobody suspects that they were accomplices? Ironically, I was going to say that soap fans who don't appreciate absurdity should watch another soap, but I couldn't think of a current example that doesn't have some sort of high jinks. From poisoned hips, to missing toes, and old ladies locked in the basement, soaps are chock-full of wackiness these days.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That's the way I remember her, and why I consider her to be all over the place in terms of character and motive. For example, the whole Chamberlain blackmail episode in 1984 was much more about getting revenge on Alan, and putting Phillip in charge, than actually wanting to run Spaulding. But, years later, she suited up for the job on a daily basis.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I was thinking about Alexandra based on the recent discussion. Now, I would watch Beverlee McKinsey read the proverbial phone book, but the character lacked consistency and a defining characteristic. For example, Reva was always Reva regardless of who wrote her (a southern belle whose relationships were always doomed by her sense of inadequacy), and except when he became inexplicably European, Alan was always Alan regardless of who played him (an obsessive conniver who could never trust that a woman would truly love him for who he was). But what consistently motivated Alex? She seemed protective of young men like Phillip, Lujack, and Alan-MIchael. But, she wasn't a traditional matriarch. She came on as an antagonist for Alan, but I'm still unsure of their family dynamic, or the source of the animosity. Did Brandon treat them differently? It seems like he was equally a jerk to both kids. As Beverlee played her, she wasn't that interested in business, but later she became a tyrannical boss. She either obsessed over men like Cyrus, or she could take 'em or leave 'em, so she never had one true love. She also never seemed to be a snob about the Spaulding name or legacy. To me, it seems like they didn't want an Alexis Colby-clone, and so she maintained these warm relationships with her sons and pseudo-sons. But, her traits were fluid based on the plot. Obviously, all of this is over simplified for brevity. But, if I were to make a list of my favorite GL characters, I don't think Alexandra would crack the top 10.

DAYS: June 2024 Discussion Thread
It is just a nitpik, because it doesn't really bother me, but I don't like it when the wrong character makes a meta-remark. Like Bonnie's comment about the tarot card being scifi, or Brady noting the number of living room weddings, or today's episode with Johnny commenting on the doctor's name. These are clever comments, but they come out the mouths of the wrong people. Brady is not snarky enough to comment on social events. Bonnie's son went to Melaswen, so she's experienced weirder things than brainwashing. And, as mentioned, Johnny would not know the cultural reference for Mark Greene. I maintain that the intention is a wink to the audience, to let us know that we're all in on the absurdity of the situation. But, it also frequently means that a dim bulb like Brady is suddenly uncharacteristically observant. Like he turns from Hee Haw to Cole Porter on a dime. Whereas, I'm actually annoyed that Eric's lost his baby and his wife, and Brady hasn't even mentioned it.

If she does turn out to be Abigail, her death was really a glow up
