  1. While having a secret exposed at a double wedding feels like classically DAYS, I am reminded that less than a year ago Gabi and Stefan had a double wedding with Dimitri and Gwen, ending with similar results. So, I agree with the sentiment that it is a little played out. Also, am I correct? Jack came for a visit with no specific reason in mind. Chad and Julie left town to go to the bank. They returned, and he left again. What was the purpose of that? It created zero conflict that wasn't replicated by having the kids overhear them talking about Abby.
  2. I think the charisma and chemistry of the actors really sold those scenes. Because the content would've been torn apart if it was in the hands of most other characters. I mean, the switch in tone from throwing barbs at each other to being empathic gave me whiplash. I'm calling it that I like nu-Gabi, but she looks very young. Imagine her in scenes with Tate? They'll look like contemporaries. It is always amusing when Brady is suddenly not clueless. He is such a dope 90% of the time, that when he actually uses deductive reasoning, it is shocking. And, I appreciate that they remembered that Brady and Alex work together, even though we still have no resolution for Gabi getting a job now that the single issue of the magazine flopped. Finally, I am loath to comment on a woman's choice to improve their appearance, but Bonnie's facework has settled in nicely. When she first appeared after surgery, it was shocking, but now she looks great. That being said, if I had to be on TV for forty years, from 19 to 60 years old, I'd just throw on a veil and audition for the newest iteration of Vanessa Prentiss from Y&R.
  3. I was just pondering that given the unlikelihood that Michael Easton will get cast on another soap, this may be his last regular role on television. He's had a long career, spanning 22 years. Yet, history teaches us that not many leading soap actors in their 50s wind up with significant roles in nighttime TV or film. So, at the age of 57, this could mean retirement for him. Luckily, it seems like he has many other interests, and I guess the bright side is that he'll no longer need to dye his hair. 🙈
  4. I believe there's still an opportunity for John to talk to Leo about how Diana's mom was horrible and allow him to understand the generational patterns that have been replicated. I hope that they'll explore that after the whole Clyde/Steve, prison-break, Greece trip fiasco is over. BTW the Alex crossovers are remarkable. Besides the fact that Ben and Alex look alike, and he shares a similar name to Xander, we also have the same actress playing his Mother and Leo's Mom. The possibilities seem too tantalizing for RonC to avoid (even if Anjelica died before our eyes on screen).
  5. I'll give Leo this one point. In the scenes with Alex last week, when he was writing the speech to say to his mother, I thought there was more restraint, and there was a genuinely friendly rapport between the two. The idea of multiple shirtless men trying to drink Leo's water was mildly amusing. And I liked the idea of these two libidinal driven guys using each other as a sounding board. I would argue that the writing for non-romantic partners on DAYS is something I actually look forward to. Furthermore, I would argue if they just allowed Leo and Diana to have one long scene together, rather than 18 1-minutes scene-lets, it would have been more impactful. I think short scenes are unnecessary on streaming, because as a viewer, I don't channel surf between shows when I'm bored like I would if it was on a broadcast network. So I don't need tidbits to keep me engaged. And it seems unnecessarily difficult to maintain the energy it takes to convey tension over several short scenes, so they often come off as more contrived.
  6. To me, this is the crux of the issue. A story is not multi-generational if all characters are developmentally stuck at 27. Characters need plots that fit their maturity.
  7. To me, the question has always been why does Marlena see private practice clients in the hospital. I mean, rent an office already.
  8. Confession: ever since I posted it I've had the earworm, “the one thing we should treasure, now and forever, is L-O-V-I-N-G”.
  9. Abe and Kate are interesting partners. I don't think Salem needs competing private detectives, so I hope they figure out something useful for the Sweet Bits storefront. And, I'm happy to see them both get out of the house. BTW, Abe hasn't had a job for a year? I have no idea who this version of Diana is supposed to be, but she is nothing like Ms. Colville, who had plenty of her own mamma-drama.
  10. I find it hard to swallow that people can't suspend their disbelief when it comes to Tate. Not only is he a charming young actor, but watching classic soaps, they had guys in their 30s play teens all the time. I mean, Laurence Lau was 27 when he was cast as high schooler Greg Nelson on AMC. Kevin McClatchy (Nick) was 32 and Hank Cheyne (Scott) was 28 when they debuted on Another World. I get that OG Tate looked younger, but we need to move past this well trod territory.
  11. Ryan Lavery (AMC), from Hayley to Gillian, Greenlee to Erica, he liked a petite gal. That's why it never worked out with Kendall.
  12. Firstly, people have got to stop talking to Victor's poster (I say poster because it is the cheapest looking portrait in America, bring back Princess Gina to paint something a little more special). I mean, Alex never shared a scene with Victor, how's he going to know how he would feel about him getting married. Which brings me to my second point, does Theresa know what Konstantin's plan was for once she married Alex? Was he going to kill him? Was she supposed to divorce him right away and get half? Because an inheritance is not community property, and he acquired it before the marriage, so she has not right to the money, unless he's dead. Third, last week we were talking about the mixed messages between Tate and Theresa, but now I am actually confused about the relationship between Holly and Nicole. Today, Holly was asking for Nicole's support and understanding. But, last month, she was railing at her for loosing so many babies. I thought they were going to use the rift to explain why Nicole leaves Holly behind in Salem. But, this made no sense. Finally, when did we learn that Megan escaped from prison? The last thing I heard, she was in a maximum security facility after mind-controlling Harris to shoot Gabi. (EDIT, now I remember she escaped from the hospital with the help of the nutty nurse that held Abe hostage and then went on Rolf's sub - how could I forget the sub that somehow navigates through lakes). Bye Harris. If you can't support the woman you love, go find the one that plays with your mind.
  13. Originally, I assumed we weren't seeing more adult language and situations because we were still watching scripts that were written for broadcast TV, or that it was a Peacock mandate. And, to be fair, there was a very short period of threesomes and casual sex without consequences. However, we still see folks in Salem say 'darn' while The Real Housewives are cussing up a storm on their uncensored feed. So, it is confusing.
  14. There's something ironically-fatal-attractiony about the Flame scene. She comes home to her Batgirl lair with the secret elevator, and then to get comfy she slips off her pumps and puts on a teddy that goes up her tush and another pair of heels. It's like, girl, you've already got him locked in a room, you don't need to dress up for him. Also, why don't soaps ever include the contractor who was hired to build the jail in the basement? Certainly, some dude is going around Santa Barbara talking about how much money he made by installing a fake wall. Or, are we to assume it was a DIY project? Either way, how did Flame afford it? They hadn't gotten the money from Robert yet. At least Lucy Coe just let down her hair, she didn't have a whole secret floor in her cottage.
  15. There's something funny about these SORAS kids claiming abandonment issues. I mean, Theresa's not a good Mom. But, she didn't intend for him to magically evolve into a surly teen when she sent him off to whatever magical boarding school does this to soap opera children! They're sad because their parents missed years of life. Well, maybe if they hadn't spontaneously developed, their parents could've visited more often.
  16. I would add that even the style of music didn't fit the show. R&B/soul/easy-listening hardly intoned the introduction for a soap about a small preppy college town. I don't recall Loving being that sexy. And once again we get the title forced into the lyric in a way that makes no sense (as long as winds will blow, my loving will protect you?) I just find it remarkable that two music legends sung the theme. I mean, beyond a trivia expert, (or someone who googled it), tell me anyone who could name that lady who sang the Passions theme.
  17. I don't know if you've ever read the French fansite, but it is an excellent resource for these types of questions. For example, I'd totally forgotten that he was Kirk's father. http://santabarbara-online.com/jack2.htm Even if the translation sometime requires further translation to make sense 🇫🇷
  18. Not to keep volleying the debate, although you make such excellent points that it is hard not to respond. It could also be argued that the triangle was a bust due to an actor issue, which necessitated a recast, and may have changed the trajectory of the proposed story, which is not the fault of the writer. And, we'd have to define a “bust.” Was it a flop creatively? Well, that is subjective. Was it a flop with ratings? Well, very few stories have improved ratings at DAYS before the move to Peacock. Was it a flop among online fans? Well, we know that the vocal audience online does not always represent the target audience that the show is trying to maintain. So, we need to agree on the terms of how we measure the comparison between the two writers, because there is no objectively correct answer.
  19. On the other hand, Abigail had driven story for a number of years while RonC was at DAYS, but casting issues may have limited the future of the character. And, as you mentioned, CM's availability doomed that duo. Again, the debate has yet to resolved if those events were caused by the writing, or a reaction to the desires of the production. One assumes that blame could be placed upon a variety of people and forces. And I wonder how often we blame writers because they are the most front facing forces behind the scenes, yet they may not have the power to direct the focus of the drama at will.
  20. I just realized that both Johnny Mathis and Jeffrey Osborne sung versions of the Loving theme. That's a large expenditure for such a mall return. I cannot even imagine a modern soap getting such legendary performers to make an opening song.
  21. I don't know if it is fair to say that “he” wrote them out, as much as production decided to cut them loose and he penned their exit storylines. Given what we now know about the backstage politics at DAYS. It seems incorrect to pin this on him as an employee of a broken system. I would propose that many of us confuse the writers as the impetus, rather than the response, to the whims of the production. But, I totally concur about the overuse of masks, and the suspension of disbelief necessary to believe that smart characters never question their circumstances.
  22. Did John go on his trip to Greece? I don't think he's visited Steve in the hospital, even though Steve covered his tush by not mentioning to Justin that he helped break Clyde out of prison. I also have no idea why Clyde isn't using that secret (as well as Ava trying to kill him) as leverage. Furthermore, I don't enjoy when inconsistent appearance begin to effect the momentum of a story (for example, we haven't seen Everett in four weeks).
  23. I would argue that there's a distinction between a character like OLTL's Delilah, whose entire arc had been told (i.e., she was redeemed, found love, and her motives were satisfied) vs. someone like Neil on DAYS who was left unresolved because newer writers were no longer inspired by the character. Now, I am not saying that if a character is not sparking the interest of a writer than they should still keep them, because that seems futile. But, as a fan, it is frustrating when a long term character is 'rested' without a resolution to their story or justification for why they are no longer the focus of attention. For example, when it was suggested that Hope on DAYS should be temporarily written out, before Kristen Alfonso quit, there seemed to be no long term plan of how to explain her absence while her children were still lead characters. Ultimately there are only so many weddings, trials, and emergencies that a character can miss before we need a reason why the attendance is impossible. I am in favor of some characters having a natural ending to their story and being shipped off if they've become repetitive or uninteresting. But, there has to be a logical reason why this moment was chosen to conclude their life's tale.
