  1. That's an impressive piece of knowledge! How did you know?
  2. Last week we discussed Ciara's poor choice of funeral garb. But can we talk about what Cat decided to pack for her caper with in Vancouver? Setting aside that we have no idea where she got all of these clothes (because they clearly aren't Abigail's). Who wears head-to-toe leather when trying to be inconspicuous? The DAYS costume department is out of control.
  3. Some SOD articles about the hiring of Harlan aka Michael Cole. When we reviewed the Breaking News of SOD from the 90s, there were a couple of stories about the casting, and various names being considered. Obviously, a lot of early plans were changed along the way (i.e. Kelly/Brenda). During that period AMC and GH were both looking for a Tr^&p-like character, and Manhattan Lives (the DOOL Marlena spin-off), was going to have one as well.
  4. The foreshadowing of the possession happens early in the fall of 1994, with Marlena complaining about a darkness that is interrupting her sleep and Mike getting phone calls asking about Marlena. Here's a summary of the dates.
  5. For what it's worth, I believe the window climbing entrances were a deliberate plot convenience to keep Steven and Doug IIIrd from being in the same room together for reasons we might understand later…
  6. The posting of two more links to an offensive site, immediately after the reposting of the article citing why it is objectionable, is clearly an act of antagonism. I have no objection to you posting your opinion on any relevant subject. But, as this is a discussion forum, I would ask you to consider your audience before you reply. The criteria should be: it is engaging, entertaining, and inoffensive; at the very least.
  7. Well @janea4old as Howie Hofstedder once said, “you can lead a horse to water, but sometimes it'll just spit in your face.” 🤷🏼‍♂️
  8. I think what's interesting here is who leaks their firing and who doesn't. In California, there's no legal reason a person couldn't leak it on their social media. Thus, one could conclude that they withheld the spoiler because they wanted to maintain relationships in the hopes of future employment (not with GH, but with the network). As we see more actors leave, it will be intriguing to note how many leak the news on their own behalf. Also, I agree with the majority that it is amusing that they didn't even give poor Dex a hospital gown, rather than gently folding his blanket directly under his nipples.
  9. I like Shawn being "Team Philip", but I wish he was going to be involved in Titan, not going back to the force. Especially when there is no current mystery for the police to solve. Again, the letter being fraudulent is the obvious resolve of this issue. But, it is unnecessary. Philip, being a previously named heir, could have easily contested the will given Theresa's fraud, and tried to get the courts to reinstate the previous version. This just feels like classic DAYS where there'll be a closeup on Philip's (or Kate's) guilty face every time someone mentions the letter. And eventually, Shawn will figure out the truth and be torn about exposing it. Very paint by numbers, with no chance of a twist. Today was the first time when it felt like there was split in Salem over who should run Titan. Because we assume most people are on Xander's side. I wish they would extend that split through the hoildays with people taking sides within the same household. Once again, they referenced Kristen's past with Sarah, but have completely neglected Ava and Kristen's past. They have a rich history of friendship and betrayal. But, they act like this issue with Brady is their first interaction with each other. And there was really no explanation for why Brady, Tate, and Holly didn't go to Doug's memorial (other than the set was too small to fit the whole cast).
  10. Faulty condoms, fake pregnancies to entrap a guy, and willful ignorance of sexual health is such a step in the wrong direction for a soap that just a couple of years ago had a woman have an abortion without any negative consequences. I thought we were past this BS, but I guess the cultural pendulum is swinging backward.
  11. Also, I think Tate said he got the condom from Brady. So you know that package was way past its expiration date, because Brady hasn't had a love scene for ages.
  12. For me, this is the hook. We have Lemay's take on that time, now we can get other observations. In this forum, far too often, people either take Lemay's memoir as the biblical account of history, or they discount him as being too biased. Now, we'll be able to compare and contrast, which is what I appreciate about Lisanti's multiple input, oral history approach. I frequently think of the example from the Ryan's Hope book about the firing of Sarah Felder. The lore was that she was fired because her look didn't fit the traditional daytime image. But, the oral history suggests that her difficult nature backstage was equally at fault. Which is the benefit of gathering many opinions. As far as the limited nature of this book, the author noted that his Texas book had to be edited down, and he didn't want to lose the information from others he contacted. So, this work is a supplement to his other book.
  13. Happy 99th birthday to Dick Van Dyke aka Timothy Robicheaux.
  14. Julie was being so cool with Chad, I hope she doesn't return to being a shrew with JJ. I get her dislike of Gabi, but I hope she's chilled out on some of the racial undertones in her arguments against her. Also, didn't they explicitly say that Tate wore a condom. I hate when they write 'scare' stories about teens being irresponsible about sex. It plays into too many dumb stereotypes, and ignores the fact that teen pregnancies are way down in this generation.
  15. Just a note/reminder about where we shouldn't post old clips. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/12/13/business/rumble-trump-bongino-kirk.html?smid=threads-nytimes Also, I adored Amanda. I miss the waspy neurotic types like Ann Tyler on AMC, or Lenore Curtain on AW. Classy broads, with daddy-issues, who were often sympathetic because they were a victim of circumstances.
  16. Mrs. Columbo, staring Kate Mulgrew, was a flop, but in the age of three-network-primetime it was important enough that arguably she had become a big name outside of RH. I understand that a soap columnist in the early 90s might have been dismissive of her fame, but she was still well known, especially from miniseries like the Manions of America. I mean if you look at her IMDB she worked every year between her appearences on RH.
  17. As much as I make fun of the writing, Gabi was able to articulate how I felt about Abigail. She is at peace, regardless of where her body lays, and that is what is important. I assume that's not the end of Caterina, or is it? I mean, is Cat going to go back to Salem while her Mom is in jail in Vancouver? Cat mentioned it was self-defense, but that's a stretch, given that Clyde was unarmed with three guns trained on him while he was shot. And now that they've hired another doctor (although I still don't know why Sarah doesn't go back to work), is that the end of Dr. Mark Greene? But, welcome to the tribe Greene family, it is always good to have one family on a soap celebrating Hanukkah, (even if they celebrate “both” as Aaron said). I still don't get how Aaron and Felicity are paying the bills. And, I will ask it every day until we get an explanation, did Caterina live in Salem this whole time right under John, Steve, and Konstantin's nose?
  18. How long is long? Because DAYS has plenty within the past 12–24 months. Nobody knows that in October 2023, EJ hired a hit woman to kill Xander (and then he hired another hitman to kill the hit woman, who was in hospital). This is contentious, but we saw Officer Goldman shoot Lucas & Kate, and we know Stefan shot Harris (although nobody but Harris knows that), but we still don't know who set fire to the Horton House in February. Also, I think only EJ and Rafe know that Melinda orchestrated the Sloan/Nicole baby switch.
  19. I'm of two minds on this issue. I really liked Nadine. I thought she was unique and had a ton of potential. But, it is also thrilling when a central, beloved character is the victim of murder. We hear so many complaints about serial murder stories on soaps, where they only kill off side characters. So, a story has some real gravitas, and long-lasting consequences when they bump off someone from a core family. As much as I missed them, and hope the actor gets work elsewhere, it is so shocking when it happens that it is often worth it. Like, when Drew Barrymore is killed in Scream, it pulls the rug out, and gives you the excitement that anything is possible. Especially in a genre where plots are often foreshadowed weeks in advance.
  20. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Texasthesoapopera/permalink/3988112251514823/ Facebook post from Tom Lisanti: I am now working on a prequel book tentatively titled Daytime Drama: The Story Behind Lovers and Friends; For Richer, For Poorer; and the 90-Minute Another World. Interviewees so far include Richard Backus, Vicky Dawson, David Abbott, Tom Happer, and Bob Purvey.
  21. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Texasthesoapopera/permalink/3988112251514823/ Tom Lisanti · 3 hours ago · It is now official! My book Texas: An Oral History of Daytime's Answer to Dallas will be published by BearManor Media in 2025. I hope it is out by August in honor of the show's 45th anniversary. Due to page limitations, I had to cut over 10,000 words and lose some interviews in the process. Caryn Richman has graciously offered to write the foreword. Will include publicity photos, several behind-the-scenes pictures, and a few original set design images. Here is the final lineup of interviewees: Texas co-creator/co-head writer Joyce Corrington; head writer and actress Pam Long (Ashley); directors John Pasquin and Andrew Weyman; assistant to the producer/breakdown writer Carolyn Culliton; breakdown writer Gary Tomlin; staff writers Richard Culliton, Patrick Mulcahey, and Michelle Poteet Lisanti; actors Lily Barnstone (Lacey), Phillip Clark (Ryan), Terri Garber (Allison #2); Ernie Garrett (Mark #1), Chandler Hill Harben (Max #1), Catherine Hickland (Courtney); Tina Johnson (Lurleen), Harley Kozak (Brette), John McCafferty (Billy Joe), Michael Medeiros (Bernie); Caryn Richman (Elena), Kin Shriner (Jeb), Tom Wiggin (Joe), and Michael Woods (Mark #2); art director Richard Hankins; set designer Thomas Taylor; the late Beverlee McKinsey's son, Scott McKinsey; the late Barbara Rucker's former husband, Steve Herlihy; Lee Fryd, the NBC publicist for Texas; former NBC daytime executives Lucy Johnson and Jeff Ryder; and soap opera journalist John Read Genovese.
  22. Two things A coma doesn't result from a bullet to the chest. I reiterate, how long have the Greene's lived in Salem, right near John and Steve?
  23. Clyde's a goner, for sure https://deadline.com/2024/12/days-of-our-lives-james-read-departure-clyde-weston-1236200953/ Although this part was puzzling “I always think of Days as a family,” adds the veteran actor, “and have enjoyed every minute of working there since I started 10 years ago.” I can't believe it's been a decade! Given that Clyde wasn’t killed — and Days of Our Lives regularly resurrects the dead, anyway — it’s a safe bet that he’ll be back to stir up trouble down the road. Caterina shot him in the chest, what do they mean he wasn't killed? You don't go into a coma from a chest wound.
  24. Meanwhile, has Aaron said that they just moved to Salem? Or has Caterina been living under John's (and maybe even Konstantin's) nose this whole time? That seems to be a plothole that has not been resolved.
  25. Derek Yates' PR person is working hard! https://www.instagram.com/derekyates/reel/DDaofvsSdj9/ I swear the guy gets more press for a minor appearance than most contract players
