Yeah, that wasn't a good episode. It is odd that every now, and then they do these self-contained episodes that do nothing to move the plot forward. I still can't believe that the woman who owns their universe's version of Walmart lives in a home that looks like it was decorated by Pic N' Save. And, they never seem to mention how hard she must work being a CEO and a Mayor at the same time. The cupcakes were obviously from Hattie, and they're laced with some noxious substance. I wonder why Javi is already scheming against Leo, unless he's doing it to please Gabi. Hey, I just realized it's Javi and Gabi!

ALL: Bad Moves by Well Regarded Soap Writers/EPs
And they kept calling her that in 2024. I mean, on a show where Cricket has been known as Christine for decades now, a wealthy black woman is still being called Mamie by the children of her former employer. And she never corrected them and asked to be referenced by her actual name.

ALL: Bad Moves by Well Regarded Soap Writers/EPs
I think a classic bad move by Agnes Nixon on AMC, that was repeated elsewhere as well, was not setting up the next generation until it was way too late. Erica not having a child earlier, rather than being saddled with a two insta-kids by later writers, was poor planning. Similarly, AW's Felicia, and other leading female characters were burdened by these odd circumstances of forgetting that they had given birth decades earlier, and then those offspring magically appeared in town (often with a chip on their shoulder). As a result, the multigenerational aspects of the stories never seemed organic, to me. Not every female character needed a child, but a younger sister, or a niece, would've sufficed to set up a family tree before these women were middle-aged.

Lesson learned: don't bully an 18-year-old actress, because one day they'll out live you and spill all the tea.

ALL: Day and Night Cycles
To me, the classic reset was on Y&R in the 1980s when the Abbott's would gather in the morning for Mamie's baked goods and recap the recent events. Or, when AW's Iris would lounge in her caftan over breakfast while talking to either Mac or Brian about the happenings in Bay City. I enjoyed that delineation between episodes as it brought a slice of life into the story (and, I imagine, allowed the opportunity for product placement). On the other hand, I never notice the time of day until it seems out of place for two scenes to co-occur. Historically, there was a period when ATWT was very bad at this. I recall Lilly leaving for the office, while Lucinda was having lunch. It just took me out of the episode. Currently, I often mention my favorite game “What time is it in Salem?” whenever I watch DAYS. You'll typically see people coming home from work, while others are in bed. Or Kayla at the hospital while it seems like it is the middle of the night. Or, it is pitch dark, but people are playing with their young children who should be in bed. Or a wedding starts during a work day for other characters. It just never makes sense. And, there are weird time jumps both within episodes, where characters magically bounce between settings, as well as between episodes, when you never seem to know how much time has passed.

DAYS: November 2024 Spoilers
Predictions: Javi is the new gossip columnist at The Spectator (to paraphrase Mrs. Obama, it's one of those gay jobs). Johnny will get out of talking in his sleep by saying it was about the soap. Chanel will begin to sleep separately, given Johnny's talking and night terrors. 😉 Chad is going to risk JJ and Cat in order to get a dead body back in the ground. But he's not going to use any of the resources available to him by owning the newspaper, having his brother as the DA, or being obscenely wealthy.

DAYS: November 2024 Discussion Thread
I expected Sophia and Tate to last at least a week... Also, once again my favorite game, “What time of day is it in Salem?” Tate and Sophia are in bed, then Sophia goes to The Bistro that is closed, which makes it seem like it is late at night. But, Kayla is at the hospital administering shots to Sarah, which seems like it would be during the day. Unless, B&S had taken over the hospital to such a degree that the real doctors can only work at night. Ava was searching for Stefan earlier in the week to approve the payroll. So, is it like her search for Melinda that she just gives up any time a man wants to talk to her? Or, is she just hiring non-paid high schoolers like Sophia to work the gig? Given the promo about the hospital closing, I wonder if Kayla will finally get in trouble for administering non-FDA approved medicines? These orchids, memory-inducing drugs, and magical walking serums are a big liability issue.

BTW good callback to Jada's sister today (I doubt later regimes will remember her). Also, it would be a nice slap in the face for Rafe if Jada finally brings Clyde to justice, but I assume she'll need his rescue. And, I am still hoping JJ doesn't become a cop again. Maybe he could write the musical score for B&S?

DAYS: Season 60 sneak peek (2024)
Yeah, I just don't know why Johnny would get all riled up about either Tony or Jack. Tripp's brother who raped Allie is dead. Stefan is out of town. Kristen raped Eric, but he seems to imply it was a male. Otherwise, I can't think of another person who assaulted one of Johnny's family members.

DAYS: Season 60 sneak peek (2024)
From the promo, I wonder if JJ tells this to Johnny, who then tells Roman, who then exposes EJ? I'm just curious if there are any other non-adjudicated rapists in town? I also now wonder if Julie's mystery man at the graveside is Steven Olsen's son Spencer, given that he is returning for the memorial episodes.

Y&R: November 2024 Discussion Board
As silly as today's "twist" felt, it also felt very Bill Bell coded (or at least Bradley). They had written Sharon into a corner, and the only way out was through a big baddie. Bell always had some gothic creature who was to blame for all the troubles for the aging ingénues of Genoa City. So, at least it seemed like the same soap that I was watching in the 80s when Lauren was buried alive by her stalker, or Michael burrowed his way into Cricket's apartment, and David wound up in a trash compactor. But, given the current the status of the writing, we all know that this 'shocking' reveal will inevitably have a disappointing resolution.

There was only one natural reaction today, and that was between JJ and Cat. Although I think Chad is going through a lot to retrieve a dead body that he didn't even know was missing until a few weeks ago, JJ's anger feels justified. On the other hand, why is Holly being so gracious to Aaron? She thought nothing of toying with his emotions during prom. But, now when his brother tried to shoot Chad during his wedding, she's totally cool with it. Holly's an emotionally reactive teen. One assumes that her experience with Cat would cause her to be less forgiving. And the Jada and Gabi thing makes no sense. It feels like the first time that they've ever been alone. Gabi is blindly loyal to Rafe. So, it seems like she would plant seeds of doubt in Jada, not teach her how to make tamales! Everyone's being a little too nice today.

DAYS: Head Writer Ron Carlivati Departing Peacock Soap After Seven Years
To me, it is not about the quality or popularity of the storyline, but why he persists in this troll-like persona online. I follow him on Instagram, and he has an Instagram-ible life, a beach house, a lovely home in upstate, a loving family. So, why keep fighting with an audience that didn't embrace him? By all accounts, being number one on Peacock is an accomplishment, and it is a shame that he can't be satisfied by that, without throwing it back in the faces of his detractors.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Considering both Lifetime and Kelly Ripa have pitched revivals, I wonder who owns the IP at this point? We know Agnes Nixon sold it to ABC, we know that the daytime arm of ABC productions has been dissolved. And Prospect Park is no longer in business. So, who owns the rights in 2024? For example, if I saved my pennies and hired Susan Lucci, could I put on a musical version of AMC in my backyard for New Year's Eve? BTW, I don't expect that anyone actually knows, I was just wondering

Best/Worst Soap Wedding Dresses, Hats, Headpieces and Veils
Remember in the early days when Anna always wore her hair in a puffy half up/half down fashion every day? It is funny to me that they incorporated that into her wedding ensemble.

Do we think when they were kids, Tommy, Addie, Marie, Bill, and Mickey all had their own rooms? That could explain the size of the Horton House. It has a primary bedroom (for Doug and Julie), and five secondary bedrooms (Chad, Thomas, JJ, Charlotte, could each have their own space, with a guest room for Jennifer and Jack). It rivals the size of the Dimera Mansion! Although, I assume Cat will move in with the Greene's while Mark is in jail (Cat could've at least bargained to get Chad not to testify). And lord only knows how Mark will be tried in Salem for a crime that occurred in Paris. Lastly, still amused that they all just left JJ in Paris after he saved Chad's life. Like, 'au revoir JJ, hope you get back to Salem soon, but we're taking the jet…'

I'm confused by EJ. After the explosion, he held Gabi's hand in the hospital as if he really cared for her. And now he is cussing her out in the town square. DAYS is not very subtle, so if he was conflicted, EJ would said that aloud (either to Chad, or to some random painting in his living room). 😎 It feels like this story turned on a dime so that Gabi could be paired with JJ. I wouldn't mind a Cat and JJ pairing. But, has the Horton House gained an extra floor since the remodel after the fire? How are Doug, Julie, Chad, Thomas, Charlotte, JJ, and Cat going to live there? Also, Joy forgave Leo awfully quickly. She's got nothing to be guilty about that would lead her to bond with Leo (talk about sexist writing, Johnny was the married one, not her). Also, why isn't she living in the Wesley's house? Nancy was rich, and I doubt she would want her daughter to live above the pub.

Oh, it's totally one-sided. But, think about it, the first person that Kristen went to went she was released from jail was Marlena. And she thought that she could gloat about John missing his anniversary with Doc, only to be met with Marlena's kids showing up to support and care for her. Meanwhile, her whole family dislikes her and the board thinks she can't run the company.- DAYS: November 2024 Discussion Thread
I would posit it is more of a Marlena thing. Given that she was just ignored while Marlena basked in the glory of family. I think Kristen wants what Marlena has, but she lacks the character to get it. Arguably, Marlena has committed more crimes, and worse offenses, than Kristen, but people still love and respect her. I mean, compare rape, identity theft, and kidnapping to being a serial murderer and a desecrating a church. I feel like Kristen's central conflict has always been with Marlena, and the question of what has she got that Kristen lacks... - DAYS: November 2024 Discussion Thread
