I just read a post on Queerty, of all places, that Joy was getting backlash for telling people to come out at Thanksgiving and "be yourself". While I am well aware of the click-bate nature of both Joy's remark and Queerty's article, I take exception when people are critical because an off hand comment broadcast to millions does not reflect their individual experience. Most of the comments were about how Joy didn't anticipate the negative responses that some people have when they come out. But, that is not a valid argument against the need to be true to yourself, no matter what. I think this is such an irresponsible post to be made on a gay website, which should promote coming out and being authentic. The NY Times had an article on the importance of "Friendsgiving" for members of the LGBTQ community who feel alienated from their family of origin and we should celebrate that type of promotion of the need to live authentically, rather than highlight those who choose to maintain relations with people who do not support the community.
  2. As the old song goes, 🎼 times have changed, and with the renewed focus on the younger generation of Cam and Spencer, there is less need to relay on the old guard to maintain ratings.
  3. Logically I agree with you (and Lucinda), Holden had cheated, fathered a child, and it made very little sense that the people of Oakdale cared more about protecting Lily from stress than providing Julie with an adequate parenting partner. Lily was a wealthy young woman, and corporate executive with many suitors, given the knowledge of Aaron's conception, she could have forgiven Holden or moved on a man who was more loyal. On the other hand, Julie was less fortunate, prone to addiction, and had fewer options, as evidenced by the fact that she let Andy, (a guy with not many prospects), sign the birth certificate. Prospectively, her baby not only lost out on a relationship with his father, but also any inheritance from the Snyder Farm, and a divorce settlement from Lily. Also, wasn't this first of two times that Andy was involved in a baby secret story?
  4. I just saw Jax's final scene, and was looking at SB's pics on insta, and if the hair department at GH get an emmy nomination this year then there is no justice. What is up with this single-process, straight-of-the-box, drug-store hair-dye job? There are halloween wigs at Party City with more realistic hair color than whatever these guys have on top of their heads. My only hopeful conspiracy theory is that this was some sort of revenge thought up by the LGBTQ community in the hair and makeup trailor...
  5. The thought of an on-site family crypt is so gross to me (OLTL's LLanfair had one as well). Especially given that it seems to be so close to the pool. One wonders about the building codes in Salem, because here in Los Angeles it is illegal to bury humans in your backyard.
  6. That's interesting because the roots of the Scott Eldredge story seems very Marland-esque in terms of a nod to history, but the execution is a classic tale of production and real life messing up good intentions. BTW, this whole discussion lead me down a Joseph Breen google-hole. The latest update is that Carlene Carter (daughter of June Carter Cash) divorced Breen after "years" of separation during the pandemic.
  7. Ah 1992, some of the lasts days on soaps of women wearing cocktail dresses to work and men ordering brandy at lunch...
  8. Much appreciated @slick jones, I wish your thread had its own tab because it is should a valuable resource and so much more specific than IMDB Do you have info on his ATWT characters? Was Karl related to the other Eldredges? Was Russ involved with Iva? And was Richard Backus a writer or is IMDB incorrect?
  9. AT what point do you think they'll re-name the show? I guess How Ya Doin' would be in poor taste given Wendy's health?
  10. I know Richard Backus from Ryan's Hope and For Richer or Poorer wrote on ATWT (per IMDB), but I was under the impression that he played Jason Benedict, the guy who Iva married - is that false?
  11. I plan on doing a deep dive into this thread tomorrow while my holiday breads are rising, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but what did NBC run in the time slot during L&F's seven month hiatus? Does anyone recall the promos for the return? Did NBC explain the name change or do a recap? On the Friday before the hiatus was there any mention that the soap would return? I am just really fascinated with the bold programming move of putting a show on hiatus, changing the title and some of the character's names and expecting the audience to stay on board.
  12. Admittedly not delicious. As previously noted I am not a fan of the actor nor the character, and I am firm believer in science and social responsibilty. However, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I had the perfect "told you so" gif cued up for the moment Jason crawled out of that cave. Alas, some people would rather throw away a thirty year career over a rigid adherence to personal beliefs rather than participate in a collective effort of healing. Just as this, selfish, uneducated, melodramatic, poorly aging, fool now expects people to support him financially through patreon when he wouldn't wear a mask or get a shot to protect the health of even one of his fans.
  13. Given the disastrous View appearance by anti-vaxxer Jedediah Bila, and local news aversion to misinformation on the topic, I wonder if he'll get any TV interviews out of this? I also wonder about commercial support for his podcast given the same issues? In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Facebook suppresses his content or places a misinformation tag on his statement.
  14. @titan1978 & @dragonflies Do you think SB's "health exemption" is also what prevents him from using sunscreen? That aging skin and bad instagram lighting isn't going to get him any jobs in daytime (couldn't resist a bitchy bon mot). Things I am still surprised by in this case (given my clear lack of inside sources): 1. CBS, ABC, and SB agreed to have him go on the Talk last week to promote GH - after he was "let go" last month (it really makes me want to re-look at those backstage photos) 2. His own instagram comments are split on supporting his "choice" 3. He maintains there will be a time "after mandates", as opposed to understanding how the world has changed. He's not Joe Rogan, one doubts his podcast will supplant his TV income. 4. Clubs in New York are still going to allow him to perform his "act" now that he's confirmed that he's unvaccinated Seriously, since I am so bad at predictions, what are the chances this guy ever gets another job on a soap within the next three years?
  15. My version of eating crow on this issue
  16. Way back in my undergraduate days I did a content analysis (for some b.s. media studies course), of the first week of B&B in comparison to an early week of episodes of Guiding Light. As I recall, the interesting comparison was between Stephanie Forrester and Bert Bauer. They ruled their families, one from the office and the other from the kitchen, they both served a "Lady Macbeth" role in their respective husband's careers, and while they both meddled in the romantic lives of their sons, they both also had preferences for one son over the the other. Looking back, I could have made the comparison to any number of soap mothers (at the time the GL archives were being shown at the Paley Center, so I had access). However, the parallels were remarkable, right down to similar lines that both characters were given to defend their meddling to their husbands. In fact, my pièce de résistance in the research was the New Daily News review of the premiere of B&B which mirrored a profile of Bert in the same newspaper published thirty years earlier.
  17. As much as I deplore gossip about a celebrity's health status, I am really sad for Wendy. It was easy to see how much her television show meant to her and she must be really incapacitated to give it up for this long. Given that she hosted in late summer without any noticeable cognitive difficulties, her decline in health must have been precipitous. That being said, I do not enjoy either Sherri Shepard (who tries to make Hot Topics into a joke-filled scripted late-night-type monologue) or Leah Remini (who seems to be only vaguely familiar with the topics she discusses) as substitutes. To me, they both demonstrate how hard that job can be. However, given the relative success of Kelly Clarkson, (and to a lesser degree Tamron Hall and Nick Cannon), I wonder if the next wave of talkshows will be headed by an individual or if the panel discussion format is played out for the moment?
  18. I wonder how Jax will feel about Australia's Covid travel restrictions? You’ll be required to quarantine at a designated facility in the city you first arrive in. A negative COVID-19 test before boarding your flight doesn’t change quarantine requirements. You don't need to book your place in quarantine. You'll be allocated a place when you arrive in Australia. You may have to pay for your place in quarantine. You can't travel domestically until you’ve completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine period. You may be tested for COVID-19 during your quarantine period. If you don’t agree to be tested, you may have to quarantine for longer. Quarantine is an unfamiliar experience for most people and can be challenging. If you need to quarantine on arrival, the Department of Health provides a guide on getting ready for quarantine. It includes what to expect, what to do before you depart and how to manage your time in quarantine. Proof of vaccination You need to provide evidence of your vaccination status for modified quarantine measures to apply to you.
  19. Photos from the estate sale of Barbara Rush, who is moving to assisted living. She played Nola, Ted Orsini/Tad Martin's mother on AMC and Eudora Weldon on Flamingo Road https://www.instagram.com/p/CWj98Lrliay/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
  20. John Waters on camp (from an interview with The Face - August, 2019) Does “camp” still mean anything today? "If you know, if you’re in on it, it can’t be camp. It has to be something innocent that tried to be good, that was so bad, like the movie Boom! (1968). That’s the true meaning of the word."
  21. I just realized the crazy SORASing of Valentin due to the retcon that Victor is his father. Victor dated Tiffany Hill and brought her to Cassadine Island during the Ice Princess story. This assumes that he was established to be a similar age to his romantic rival Robert Scorpio. Robert is a also a similar age to Anna. So, if Anna is now dating the son of Victor, there must be at least a 16-18 year difference between the two...
  22. Sharon Brown who played the character Daisy on the CBS soap opera Love of Life in 1971, and she originated the role of Chantel on the Generations from 1989 to 1990 is currently in the Broadway revival cast of Caroline or Change. She is the rare case of an understudy who has gotten her own published reviews. Many will recall that AMC's Tonya Pinkins originated the role in the first production. Sharon Brown is a REVELATION as Caroline. I've never seen or even imagined a take on Caroline like this (even on various videos I've seen) - while Tonya and most actresses I've seen clips of play the role pretty angry from the jump, Sharon didn't - her Caroline was clearly frustrated but not visibly or tonally upset. In Act Two, you could see the anger start to come out and then her performance of "Lot's Wife" might have been the best thing I have ever seen on a Broadway stage.
  23. Well at least someone is willing to admit that these rumors are gross and illogical, so that's some progress...
  24. I get what you mean because camp should be unintentional
