  1. It is amusing that a constant lesson of the show was to follow your instincts, but Oprah's instincts were frequently off. SO good, thank you for the recommendation! Also, in hindsight wasn't it amazing how many stars she got to fly in Chicago; often in the middle of winter? Great song and Paul Simon was such an unexpected choice for the show I watched her cook with Aretha Franklin last night and it was a classic. First, Aretha is wearing the most intricate braided geometric shape on top of her head, then she says that if she wasn't a singer she would have been a ballerina, then she says that she feels best when her weight is around 100lbs; all while they're making banana pudding - too wacky for words.
  2. I was looking at Oprah's Favorite Things list on Amazon it just struck me that her final episode was a decade ago in 2011 (May 25th to be exact). In response, I went through YouTube and made a playlist of some of my favorite video memories. Many are from the final years, but I go back to watch them every now and then. Each and every time I cry my eyes out. I used to have the DVD box set and I made a rule to only watch it on New Year's Day because it made me so maudlin, but now most of those episodes are either on YT or Oprah's site. My list includes: The 24th season premiere when The Black Eyed Peas sing I Gotta Feeling and the entire city of Chicago does a flashmob dance Stevie Wonder surprises Jake Simpson (an obscure Star Search reboot winner) and they duet Kristen Chenowith singing with the men of Moorehouse College that Oprah had paid for their tuition Whitney Houston, the final interview and her singing I Didn't Know My Own Strength Jo Ann Compton the woman whose daughter was killed, and had planned to take her own life after show Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon explaining how being more successful than their partners affected their relationships Nate Berkus redoing Kirstie Alley's kitchen (or Nate discussing the death of his partner) The Forsythe County Georgia episodes about racial segregation The first surprise trip to Philadelphia My questions are (1) does anyone else do an annual Oprah rewatch, (2) which videos do you favor, and (3) does anyone else like the ones that are most likely to bring tears to your eyes or a lump in your throat?
  3. How many times has Brooke Logan been assaulted? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's an assault in the early years, when she starts dating Dave, then there's the assault by the guy who Stephanie set her up with, but didn't know was a danger. So, is it twice? Not to mention the various fights with Stephanie and Sheila.
  4. Not to mention that a year prior to her move to Houston, she gave up any inheritance rights to Cory when she married Brian, as a sign of devotion to her new husband. EDIT: I just read 1988 summaries on AWHP and this really makes no sense. Iris creates a dummy corporation named Bennet Publishing to takeover Cory and buys Cory stock. Then, she lends Mac the money to buy back the stock. So, lets say she spent 1 million on stock, then lent Mac 1 million (which he never repaid for obvious reasons), and got paid back 1 million, in the end isn't she still out 1 million bucks? No wonder she had to stay at the mansion, she probably had no liquid assets.
  5. In hindsight that is the funniest thing about Sylvie, she is clearly coded as Jewish, but Iris was the Waspiest woman in Bay City. Sylvie was from New York, she was in the garment industry, and she was more bold in her fashion choices. So, I think it would have been fun to see Iris struggle with her identity and the sources of her elitism. I am also questioning my whole memory of the Iris the Chief story. Was her motivation to destabilize Cory Publishing so that she could latter save the day, or was she trying get retribution by stealing Cory from Amanda and Matthew, as Mac's legitimate heirs? Because the reveal of her as Mac's biological daughter seems like an unnecessary detail for either story motive. I also question the need to change the setup from Iris versus Amanda to Iris versus Paulina. Iris had far more right to be mad at Amanda because her birth revealed that Iris was adopted, than Paulina who despite being Mac's child never had a legitimate claim to Cory because she wasn't in the will.
  6. That's pretty great idea. At the very least it would account for the fact that there never seems to be long term consequences from these wacky types of stories. I mean who would continue to use Marlena as a psychiatrist after she's been possessed twice?
  7. I'm fascinated by Erika's attempts to defend herself, so I could listen to it for days. And the reaction shots of Kathy reapplying her lipstick makes me laugh. I don't know if anyone has had the time, or inclination, to read this interview with the journalists who wrote the LA Times article about Erika and Tom, but it includes some gems. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2021-11-03/real-housewives-beverly-hills-reunion-erika-jayne-tom-girardi-questions First, they are very amused by the notion that all of the housewives felt that their article was too long. "Their show is too long. It’s like 85% reaction shots. Someone makes a comment at a staged dinner party. Then we get five minutes of reaction shots to the comment, then there are three or four more discussions of the comment at different venues with additional reaction shots. And then sometimes a flashback of the original comment and original reaction shots. But sure, our story is too long." Second, they contradict Erika's defense that she didn't know that the article was being published when she left the La Quinta trip early. They note that they contacted her publicist and her lawyer for comment, and while they didn't reveal the date the article would be released they did give a deadline for response of a day before she left the trip. Third, it was amusing to read how many messages they received from amateur sleuths in the Bravo audience.
  8. Meanwhile, I've not heard anything about Nick Cannon's show (from the same producers as Wendy, and Page Six's suggestion as replacement if she doesn't return) since it got terrible critiques for its premiere So, I checked YouTube, where both shows post their full episodes, and yesterday's Wendy episode with Sheri Sheppard got 50K views, while Nick's show got 1.7K (ouch).
  9. To be clear, I obviously think everyone should be vaccinated and it is our civic duty to protect each other from a deadly virus. Those that refuse are not only ignorant of science, but they are also bad citizens who do not deserve to benefit from the richness of our society. When I equate this situation with McCarthism, what I am suggesting is that using a public health crisis to start rumors on social media due to a distaste for an actor, or the character that they portray, is akin to accusing actors of communism because of a disagreement about their perceived political stance which is how the Hollywood blacklist was created. And denying the obvious reasons that this rumor can be debunked is like saying someone is guilty before they are charged. As for the argument that anyone would want even their favorite actor or character fired if they weren't vaccinated, I would retort that I doubt that one would spread unsubstantiated rumors about their favorite star nor would they delight in their unemployment. Therefore, it is the tone that I find distasteful, regardless of our agreement on the base issue.
  10. This is not true - per the New York state website Vaccination and Mask Policy for Shows in New York The owners and operators of all theatres in New York State will continue to require vaccinations for audience members, as well as performers, backstage crew, and theatre staff, for all performances through the end of the year. Masks will also be required for audiences inside the theatre, except while actively eating or drinking in designated locations. “Fully vaccinated” means on the date of the performance a guest is at least 14 days after their second dose of a two dose COVID-19 vaccine OR at least 14 days after their single dose of an approved single dose COVID-19 vaccine. Also, while airlines do not require vax proof for travel, LAX does City of Los Angeles Traveler Form To help stop the spread of COVID-19, Los Angeles requires all travelers entering the city from another state or country to fill out this online form, acknowledging that they have read and understood the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Travel guidance. All travelers over the age of 16 must submit this form online prior to or upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport, Van Nuys Airport, or Union Station. Learn more at travel.lacity.org.
  11. As far as time will tell, I hope that if this rumor turns out to be debunked we will reconsider the source for future reporting. I'm not a particular fan of either actor, nor do I take any enjoyment from their potential unemployment, but I think this type of rumor sets a dangerous precedent. People's health records and choices should not be gossip fodder, just as an actor's religious or political beliefs should not be a concern. There's come a point where we should draw a line between our dislike for a character, or characterization, and our projections on to the actors. This type of discussion reminds of the "red scare" of communism during the McCarty period. We should not pretend to know people's motives or their morals based on social media para-relationships. I feel like we can discuss the outcome if this rumor proves to be true as far as it effects our fandom for the stories and characters on the show, but that is where I draw a line in terms of decency.
  12. Again, I just know what I can see on social media. Burton's instagram notes that he is booked for Syracuse in December. New York state instituted a policy in order to get Broadway re-opened that all performers in enclosed venues show proof of vaccination, there are no airlines don't require either proof, or a COVID test, and in California we get digital vax registration which reduces the risk of fraudulent vax cards. So, the rumor seems easily disproved.
  13. That also seems implausible since their comedy tour has booked weekends on the east coast, which would take too long and be too expensive to travel by bus, and he has toured in states that require performers in small theaters to show proof of vaccination.
  14. I am only speculating as well, but following on social media and seeing his touring schedule over the past month, it seems implausible that he hasn't been vaxed. He would have difficulty flying and booking small venues without proof of vaccination.
  15. AW - Who shot Jake? (1990-1991) I've gone back and forth on whether the rewards were worth the risk on this one. Certainly vilifying Jake, a well liked character, and making him a rapist was a risk. My understanding is that production did not know if Tom Eplin would re-sign his contract, so they wrote Jake into a corner. Jake was shot in October 1990 and did not reemerge from his coma until March of 1991, so it was a lengthy story. However, from that drama we got the iconic scenes of Vicky pretending to Marley during the trial (which oddly occurred while Jake was still in a coma) which was a tour-de-force for Anne Heche. We got the mysterious reintroduction of Kathleen McKinnon (and Joe Carlino). Donna's false admission of guilt caused her to loose custody of her foster kid, and broke her up with Michael. Finally, the shooting of Jake set up the denouement of Paulina's establishment as a Cory and tampered the rivalry between Paulina and Iris. The aftermath gave us the pairing of Jake and Paulina which drove story for a couple of years. The scenes between Marley and Jake where she confronted him as a rapist were much more satisfying than similar scenes on GL or GH. And Vicky and Ryan's love story evolved from that mystery. So, I think it is a case where the risk of writing Jake as a rapist and menace really paid off both for the character himself, as well as the suspects in story. Also, it was one of the few times that Soap Opera Weekly had one of those iconic cover shots of the victim and the suspects and the actual shooter was in the photo, and not some obviously dispensable character who could be easily written out of the show.
  16. She was great on S3 of Dynasty as a mean rich girl who is a little nuts.
  17. I've been listening to the Passions podcast (iykyk) and was reminded of Gina Marie May, the one month Kay - that is some bad recasting The weird thing about Kay was that from Taylor Anne Mountz to Deanna Wright and then to Heidi Mueller the character changed with the recast, which I consider a sign of a bad recasting. Kay started as a sporty almost tom-boy who palled around with Miguel. The initial point was that Miguel denied her attraction to him because he considered her to be one his childhood buddies. Then, by the time Heidi Mueller (a failed reality star turned "actress') came along Kay became a va-va-voom girl who all the boys lusted after, and she looked like she could never dribble a basketball. Then, you have her sister Jessica who was off screen for so long between recasts that each time the character was reintroduced she had different traits.
  18. It begs the question of what the Dimera's have over Rolf that he continues in their employment? The guy can resurrect the dead, (without any decay to their bodies or face). He should get the Nobel prize, or at least open his own clinic!
  19. The amusing thing about this whole "younger" Iris discussion is that at no point did AW itself suggest this as an option, it was Soap Opera Magazine's 1994 version of magazine clickbate
  20. Then I am glad that I could provide this service today... Is there anything more soapy on Halloween than having a future grandpa surprising his wife with his butt crack showing? I doubt Tom Horton ever did that for Alice
  21. I got it from the Beemerfans instagram account, where they usually cut and paste his daily scenes together https://www.instagram.com/beemerfans/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CVoH1EevVT4YsPGUSDBoXGyOG6J1nGXhBWku5o0/
  22. I don't know how TikTok proficient people feel, but the dashrod2 account consistently uploads really fun classic soap content in bite sized pieces v09044g40000c5ri9prc77u9oltionr0.mp4
  23. This looks like a towel, unless we are thinking of two different scenes, he later pulls on some jeans. The imaginary pull-on overhead lamp is an especially odd production quirk to get the lights on in the room, because it doesn't explain how he turned them off. Does the butt crack qualify the episode for TV-14 status? beemerfans_251016731_1262743100905079_7718391291860222380_n.mp4
  24. So, Shawn was wearing underwear under his towel out of the shower? That doesn't make a lot of sense, but I guess I'll buy it, given that no reason was shown why he was showering mid-day in the first place. Where do Shawn and Belle live? Are they in Hope's old house and did they keep their apartment in Hong Kong?
  25. Which totally begs the question - how inefficient is Shawn that he thinks to put on a mask after a shower, but no shorts?
