  1. It's funny because yesterday as I was watching I noticed the button that says "skip intro", but I thought that the intro is so short I wouldn't be able to click it in time. freaky (and not very authentic)
  2. I feel like they've never been able to replicate the tone of the UK version of Strictly Come Dancing. On that show there are more live performances, the results are more immediate, and there's still a bit of camp. More than Tyra, for me, it is the attempt to redeem GOP politicians and the various random changes in the format that has turned me off to the show. When a reviled public figure is cast in the UK, it is done with humor and a bit of taking the bluster out of their persona. In the US it seems like they are either trying to humanize the pol or, worse yet, ignore the issues that made them controversial.
  3. Shawn-D is lucky to have married well. He's a part-time beat cop who picks up a shift whenever he's in town and not being kidnapped. He's Victor's grandson but was never in contention for CEO, unlike his most of his second cousins. And he lives in his mother's bedroom because he can't seem to afford his own place.
  4. So, Andrew is a year older than Shawn-D who has a grown kid that is a year older than Johnny and Wendy? My mind is blown. I'm just going to pretend that doesn't exist, just like I've come to accept that EJ is Kristen's son but is somehow older than Alex who was born eight years before him.
  5. Once again soap justice is bizarre. Today we learned that Trina can free Esme just by going to Robert (an Australian spy, and not a US citizen, who was once suspected of treason, but somehow became a police captain, and was then elevated to DA, despite never going to law school) and asking him to drop the charges. A patient with a brain injury being remanded to a mental hospital, and not a rehabilitation center, is already nonsense. But, now they write it like people who were found to be insane can be set free by the DA, and not a judge; even though they were never tried or convicted of a crime. It is as if the writing staff at GH doesn't have access to Google. And, let's not even mention how anyone in Port Charles can just drop into this institution for the criminally insane on a whim to visit the patients.
  6. Did Stephanie know Theresa while growing up? I feel like I missed Theresa's whole story (heck, I just read that Drew reappeared in 2017 and I had no idea).
  7. Also, does the fact that Megan stole the orchid exonerate Kristen? Yeah, a month ago they were kidnapping Rachel to get the orchid, and now they seem to have forgotten about it and are mostly concerned about getting laid and brainwashing people with kitchen gadgets. One more: Is Andrew named after Shane's doppelganger twin? Because it seems super weird to name your child after a hitman.
  8. I thought that I wouldn't like the old codgers, but they were mostly a welcome relief from recent episodes. I still want more integration of Eric, Brady, and Xander in this mystery, but I am growing to appreciate 2/3 of these dudes. John's scenes with Paul were funny and touching. His erratic overreaction to Paul's breakup did nothing to convince people that he's not brainwashed. At first, I misunderstood the metaphor about Andrew's preview not matching the movie (I thought John was referring to Andrew's physical attributes). However, between his relationships with Rachel and Paul, John has become the best patriarch in soaps. Steve's scenes with Andrew were not as convincing and left me with tons of questions. First, when Andrew greeted him as Uncle Steve, I had to remind myself how they were related (for whatever reason initially I thought he was Alex's brother). I also wondered why an international spy agency would be headquartered in DC? And why are we disparaging desk jobs? Maybe Andrew is upper management and superior to those in the field? Roman's scenes were mostly justified by exposition to catch up the audience on Megan's history. But, why write those scenes for an actor who is such a marble mouth? I barely understood a word he said. And, there's such a weird vibe between Lucas and Roman because I feel like they never resolved their feelings over what Lucas did to Sami. Wasn't Andrew born around 1991? I know everyone's the same age now, but it seems like he would be much older than Patch or Justin's kids; historically speaking. Time just moves differently in Salem. Also, they could spruce up that orchid to make it look rare. Today it looked like something you could pick up at Trader Joe's on sale for $5.99.
  9. Remember the days when at least one character per day would utter the words Kingsley-Malta?
  10. I'm still stuck on the judge that was bribed using Bill's boat. I hope they tie up that detail so I don't lose all faith in the legal system in faux-LA (real LA is believably corrupt).
  11. I believe that Worldwide was a management consulting firm like McKinsey in real life. So, they would work with companies like Roseanna's family's automotive company or the Grimaldi's Kingsley-Matla corporation to make their business more efficient.
  12. The only point I would make in fairness about the silly living situation in Salem is that they work in a university-based hospital where salaries are much lower than in a private healthcare system. That being said, the weird nepotism of Sarah and Tripp being hired mid-semester simply because their family worked in the hospital is far more unrealistic.
  13. that's an essential consideration because certainly there are "below-the-line" people like cinematographers and costume designers who are represented in the montage, and we rarely hear of social media being upset by their absence, we shouldn't reserve our outrage for only actors.
  14. Maybe they need to title it better? Like, people who we'll miss, rather than In-Memoriam which is always going to miss somebody - also a lot of these folks are TV people who will be covered by the Emmy's
  15. I thought Jimmy Kimmel was fine, and he's a good fit for the event. Respectful and a little naughty. Not too starry-eyed or reverential. That being said, I wouldn't mind a little more song and dance like when Hugh Jackman hosted.
  16. So far Twitter seems to notice that Tom Sizemore and Robert Blake were missing from the In Memoriam. To be fair, they are fairly recent and both were controversial (obviously to different degrees). Remember when they started instructing the audience not to respond until the end because some people would garner more reaction than others? It's like when they changed from "the winner is" to "the Oscar goes to", it seems so natural now, but was a big deal at the time.
  17. It's funny that so many of the nominees commented on the carpet that this was then end of long journey and that they would miss their peers. Because, if you think about they've spent most weekends together since the Globes in January. I have close friends that I've probably not seen as often than Jamie Lee Curtis has hung out with Angela Bassett this winter.
  18. The actual red carpet interviews are killing me. Tell me why Ashley Greene needed to look at her card to remember to say, "Have a great time tonight"? And Liza Koshy is the most mannered, least authentic, entertainment reporter in the history of the genre. And that's a lot for an industry that includes Billy Bush. Also, from feathered trains that look like bird tails to over-skirts and detached sleeves, why do this year's dresses look like someone said, "for a buck extra you can get a free add-on"?
  19. While it certainly was the lip sync of the season, I think the fix was in from the start by making Marcia x3 go up against Anetra who had previously thought that she was enough of a lightweight to be sent back to the workroom during the lola-pa-ruza lip sync smackdown. Antetra was not that bad in the comedy challenge, but by putting her in the bottom against Marcia cubed, Ru was ensuring that Marcia was out of the competition.
  20. There's something so funny to me about the way in which DAYS hair and makeup team uses bandages. (a) usually, a person's head would be shaved if you were going to cover the whole thing with a bandage (b) the guy's been dead since 2015, who's been carefully trimming his beard? & (c) I'm not even going to ask about how he's been going to the bathroom (obviously Marlena is too pretty to ever need to go).
  21. I had a similar thought. One of my issues with the Dex storyline has been that I don't feel well-informed about either Sonny's or Dex's plan. Sonny is involved in some business deal, but it is unclear how it is illegal, or how Dex will use it to help convict Sonny. When I first found out that Dex was in cahoots with Michael I assumed that they were trying to take down Sonny financially, but now it seems like they are trying to make a legal case against him, and I don't get why Michael is needed for that story. Putting the actress's health aside, it can't be helping to see Maxie in that jacket. Also, did miss I miss something? Are they celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Nurse's Ball or the 60th anniversary of the hospital? Because we've flashed back to the first episode a number of times now and it didn't seem like Dr. Hardy's first day on the job. I don't mind the large cast. GH is one of the only shows where it feels like they all live in the same town and they're all affected by the same drama. Friday's episode was a good example of people catching up, in a variety of places, and reacting to recent events. But, is there anything soapier than Cody dropping the DNA results? Only in a soap town do people carelessly drop their pregnancy tests, cancer results, and DNA findings like a spare penny.
  22. I can't help wondering how much money was lost on firing all of those writers. By the time they went to NBC, daytime writers were part of the WGA, and therefore even if they were fired, the production still had to pay out a part of their contract, and the contracts of their staff. It is just such a remarkable number of writers, many of which did not come cheap, in such a short amount of time.
  23. I legit got chills I guess Megan's obsession with Bo explains how she kept his hair cut and beard trimmed for all of those years while he was frozen...
  24. If Ben and Ciara are returning with does this mean that RSW will play both roles, or is Maggie's ascendancy to the CEO position a way to get rid of Alex temporarily? Also, are the Dimera's deciding between two CEOs who've been dead for most of the past decade? It seems like neither of them would be up to speed in terms of technology and modern corporate concerns. Finally, I'd be happy if Wendy and Johny remain just friends. DAYS has an excellent history of cross-gendered non-romantic partners (Eugene & Marlena, Anna & Alex, etc..) and it would be nice if somebody in Salem had a story that was not only focused on romance, the supernatural, or corporate management.
