  1. I am not at all ashamed to say I may look that up on you tube today. I think Lynn Herring suffered the most from that shuffle. Lisanne was a mess of a character. Plus I think CC gave her a hard time about doing love scenes with MS? I remember Wayne was quoted as saying 'calm down, it's acting' at the time and WN actively complained about LH's poor treatment on the set. Wasn't Julie in a love story with a young Dr at the time? What was Bill Hayes doing at the time? He couldn't have appeared on the show? ETA: I just realized it was Jay Pickett RIP. I am one of the few people who think Wayne could have remained on the canvas just maybe sans Marlena. He basically left Sami hanging and I never liked that. It just seems so un-Roman like to leave his kids. I don't really see a love interest for him on the canvas in 1994, but I assume they could have found someone. I actually think RKK was a good recast. He was just a problematic person. I don't think his actual work was bad and he had fire chemistry with Lisa Rinna. 1992 was such a mess with a bad Carrie recast, John with that Romulous diamond story, Roman's Mrs. Doubtfire story, the show toying with Lawrence/Carrie, Kayla/Shane, Hawk/Jack/Jen. I think Isabella's death and maybe some Carly stuff are the only things that hold up. The rest can be forgotten. By 1993, the show just revitalized itself. Jarlena affair, Austin/Carrie, Sami's re-introduction, bringing on Kate for Victor/Vivian, Bo/Billie, Kristen's introduction.......basically everything worked in that year.
  2. Yeah I believe that too. I have no idea why Deidre and Wayne kept re-signing after their 6 month contracts expired. It's like the show had NO PLANS for them after the Tale of 2 Romans, but again I thought this was a SG/Isabella thing that messed it up. I have always heard they pushed the entire Affair story back because SG demanded a lot of money and they were surprised she decided to quit when she didn't get it. I believe Wayne actually did play some hardball and was off contract for a minute when he left town to figure out the Bo kidnapping (PR leaving/Rkk assuming the role) @JAS0N47would probably have the receipts on that. I guess they just kept throwing tv movies and spinoffs at Deidre. I don't think that time for Days was great backstage either. I think the Roger/Stella stuff started in mid-1992. So she wasn't really on the sidelines that long, but it did seem like it because she never interacted with John or Isabella or anyone other than Roman and appeared at parties. TM's Carrie being a total bomb probably didn't help much either. I do think she filmed a few tv movies at the time too. Didn't the Deidre Hall story air on ABC not NBC? So weird. I LOVE you know the full title. I definitely have that gem on VHS somewhere in my house still lol.
  3. I mean, it definitely just sounds like Marlena and Carrie in the big city with some rich people thrown in and not a crazy hour of television, but AW was running on fumes. And did AW cut costs? Weren't they flying Jensen in on a helicopter? It definitely still looked better than Days does now when it went off the air lol. I honestly think something like Manhattan lives would have worked for a few years then they just would have spun the characters that were popular and Marlena/Carrie back to the main show. It's hard to say though because if you took Jarlena's kids, Roman/Marlena's kids, and kept it moving it might have worked because that's like 75% of the Days cast now lol. It could have killed it's own mother show lol. I am really interested in the Bell soap. I wonder if a half hour Bell soap and a half hour of Sunset Beach would have worked.
  4. I loved Billie, Kristen, and Jen's friendship. I loved them all dressed up at Maison Blanche with all the intrigue going on with Stefano. I think it really is all in Missy's hands. Corday sued her and brought her back. I don't think the show will ever out right fire her or have they before? I can't remember if she left back in the 2000's or if they fired Missy and Matt. She does seemed less liked on set than someone like Ingo, who doesn't seem to get called out for his similar views by anyone except NLG. Her antics did make some news outlets, but I doubt most viewers know. I am sure she has plenty of fans still. I also think Missy becomes more valuable without Kristian Alfonso/Hope around. I wouldn't be surprised if Corday and crew and Missy were just waiting for the scandal to die down a bit.
  5. Jarlena is a good example, but I think Brenda/Sonny on GH is better. Sonny was trash, but CL gave him a lot of layers to work around the fact VM/MB just had random crazy chemistry. I think that is a very similar situation. Sonny was basically peddling drugs and underage stripping and then had a scene or two with Vanessa and it was like 'should we keep him"? And RSW never got that depth or backstory to make it viable so I do understand that. And Ciara was underdeveloped as well. It was just a miss on Days side because they never put in any work. It was all hot sex and smoke and mirrors on this couple.
  6. Cady just had a different take on Jen and it wasn't bad. CM just leaves me with the same impression Robin Christopher does. They are very, very good just a little cold. I was never a huge Jen fan. She was always a 2nd tier heroine to me, but I know she has a huge following. I am not sure Missy was exactly phoning it in-girl has some [!@#$%^&*] writing-but she may be tired. I always have weird sympathy for MR because I think she lives in a very controlling situation. Her actions are not appropriate at all, and I am not condoning her behavior, but I always got creeped out Scott made her quit her job and move away instead of just divorcing her like a normal human.
  7. I think Days just fell into something. I am not sure why they ever brought RSW back as Ben. And shooting approx. 7 years out ruined it. Vk and RSW had really good chemistry and it was like 'what now'? It was too far out to change things so we just accepted a very poor written couple that makes no sense on paper. And like I said, it's a shame because it's probably one of the best younger couples in the last 20 years as far as chemistry goes.
  8. It was always going to be a problem from the jump with the two of them. It just was never a good idea to pair her with him. And VK plays Ciara really on the obnoxious side. I think she's almost as unlikeable as him (without the murder and stuff). She has no anchor without Bo/Hope and she barely interacts with Shawn. Idk, I am not verbalizing this right, but I can understand why the have fans and why they have such detractors as well. I was never a big Ciara fan and don't remember her being terribly bright or smart although I like the little girl that played her for awhile. I think Ciara has been a mess since she was aged and VK plays her very smug these days. But I do see how they are popular with younger fans.
  9. There has always been an earnestness that Missy brought to Jen. She is much less glamourous than Marlena or Hope but Missy has always had a natural appeal. There is something very likable about her, but her real life just isn't likable at all. I just think MR has a warmth Cady does not have naturally. Anyhow, if they said Cady was taking over the role forever I'd be fine. I just still think Missy will always be Jen. Plus, her great chemistry with MA. You aren't gonna be able to just replicate that with someone else, but CM never bothered me even though MR has played Jen since she was practically a kid. So it's kind of a wash? I like them both as Jen.
  10. It sucks because I am actually one of the few people on this board that think Ciara/Ben have really good chemistry. VK and RSW do spark together it's just such a mess of a story.
  11. Lol! That picture looks like a cover of a VC Andrews novel.
  12. Yes. It was the girlfriend/fiancée he had from back home. Not Fergie lol. I don't want the thread to get shut down because of gossip, but the story was Ingo was drunk or both Ingo/Josh were and Ingo started making passes at Josh's girlfriend and they ended getting into a fistfight at the daytime emmy's after party. I can't find the WWHL but it was a blind item in SOD and then just something on the internet. I couldn't even remember the people involved but I can remember the story somewhat🤣
  13. I need to track down that WWHL episode. I remember hearing about it years ago on Datalounge or something and I never knew if it was actually true and could never remember which one of them it was. Signs that Ingo was problematic in the 90's lol, but I guess we knew that since he dated RH and then her sister lol.
  14. Thanks for posting @will81. I guess that spin off was just lingering around for several years lol. I have to go into the proposed soaps thread and find out more about the Bell spin off. It makes you wonder if NBC should have just cut their losses with AW and tried one of the two soaps. You have to wonder how Corday went from let's move Marlena to Manhattan to let's possess her by the devil lol.
  15. I actually like him more because of the hustle. Good for him. He seems like a nice enough guy. He's completely unnecessary on GH, but that's not his fault. Was he the one who got into a fistfight with Ingo at the emmy's like 20 years ago? Or was that Josh Duhamel? Ingo was hitting on one of the two guys girlfriends (allegedly) but I can never remember which one.
  16. I remember hearing NBC or Corday? thought Deidre looked too old for Drake and that's why they hired Eileen. So it's seems weird they would give her a spin off if they already had concerns about her age. I do think depending on the haircut/styling DHer did look older than Drake at times back then, but definitely not anymore. But the show did go full force with Kristen/John for awhile. I think JER genuinely loved writing for John/Marlena, but I do think there was some appeasement going on to keep them both happy and front burner. Crystal Chappell, their star, was out after 1 contract cycle as was Lawrence Almain, who was the big bad at the time. I think once the Affair story took off it was easy to center on Jarlena and I think the show owed Drake one for being a fairly reliable leading man for years and basically getting his character taken away. The show was really wonky in 1991-1992. The 80's goodness was ending (MBE, SN, CS, PP, KA all out) and I think show just needed some tried and true veteran leads to anchor the show. I think if some of those actors stayed things would have been different, but by 1993, I agree you really needed Marlena on Days. Obviously, the show could have used Marlena's peers like Maggie, Julie or Laura to anchor, but JER never seemed interested in them.
  17. I assume most of it was to placate Deidre to get her to return, but they did let her shoot a movie about her life, so someone had faith in her ability to bring in ratings lol. I think part of it was also the rumors Deidre was not happy it was the Crystal Chappell/Carly show back then. You are right that Marlena had very, very little to do post tale of 2 Romans and pre being thrown in that pit. I always assumed it was because SG left suddenly and they had to play out Isabella dying and had to give it some time after her death for the Jarlena affair. If you look at the timeline and info that's available the spin off was looking to replace AW in 1994 not Santa Barbara, so it probably wasn't dead until then. But by 94 Marlena's character was definitely already on an upswing. I think if you solidified casting Carrie, Marlena, and Anna and found some male daytime leads for their love interests it would have been good. I would probably keep Wayne as well and just go with Roman/Marlena over John/Marlena. It would have still had to borrow heavily from Days because of Drake and Ali being on that show, but it has a better established premise with Deidre Hall as Marlena then say Sunset Beach. They always could have cast Eric and other parts of Marlena's family because Days always said they existed but you rarely saw her side of the family. I would love to find more info about it. You have to wonder if Days would have had such a great boost in the mid 90's without Marlena/John/Kristen. There probably would have been a lot more effort put into keeping CC and maybe MBE if there's no Marlena.
  18. I think part of the issue was Staci Greason leaving. The affair was planned much earlier, but I think that was always the plan and arc. I am pretty sure that's why Wayne got stuck playing Ms. Doubtfire. The affair was supposed to be cheating on both sides. I feel like this was always a DH vanity project, but it's not the worst idea. I just don't know why a show would spin off their most popular heroine. I know Carly was a major thing back then, but it still doesn't add up to me. And JER was not wrong focusing on Marlena. It's just a why do we need a spinoff when we can just refocus on a character?
  19. I don't think so. They were talking about Wayne still having time on his contract. He got fired in 1994 well after AS was cast. It would have been awkward to have Sami/Eric around without Marlena/Roman, but John could have probably taken over parental duties? Marlena/Roman would look like bad parents, but it could have been viable. I could get Marlena's shame over the affair would drive her out of town for sure. It would just be weird for her to have a new love interest when she had 2 good ones already on the show. It would have been so bizarre to ship Marlena off the show when she had so much to come. In 1992 I could see it. She was doing nothing, but by 93/94 she had a lot of story. Unless they were considering Drake for the spinoff but I have never heard anything about that. I think a Deidre/Drake/Eileen spinoff would have been gold.
  20. Deidre's spinoff was Manhattan Lives. Pacific Lives was an earlier proposal dealing with Tom Horton Jr, Sandy Horton and others. From SOD Feb 1992 New Days are Dawning - Marlena gets a Spin-Off After months of whispering and 'no comments',it's finally official: Days star Deidre Hall(Marlena) is getting her own spin-off. Set in New York City and centering around Hall's character, the still unnamed daytime series will probably debut in late spring. "The show will totally throw you back in your chair," says Hall, who also serves as the show's co-executive producer, with Day's head honcho Ken Corday. "Ken is excited about it,I'm excited about it,and we have a great team." Former Days head writer Gene Palumbo will take up that post on the spin-off, together with longtime Days scribe Sheri Anderson. According to Palumbo. Marlena will not be the only familiar face on the show. "You will see a lot of terribly popular and well loved Days characters turning up and familiar couples who won't necessarily be in each other's arms." Palumbo says Hall has taken an active part in story meetings. "Deidre is definitely part of the whole process and she has some great ideas',he notes. According to the actress, she was first supposed to do a spin-off eight years ago. "At the time, we negotiated, we got ready and it never happened", hall says. "Then when I signed with Days six months ago, I had in my contract a development deal. i didn't know what in the world to do about it, but then i remembered the spin-off. I said. "What's happening with that?" And Days producers said."Would you consider it?" and I said,"Of course!" From SOD April 14th 1992 "Bible" Thumping: Marlena's DAYS Spin-Off Gets Named And Plotted After months of speculation, Deidre Hall';s DOOL spin-off finally has a name. According to Gene Palumbo, who shares head writer duties with Sheri Anderson, the show will be called Body and Soul. Palumbo says he and Anderson 'came up with a whole list of names and showed them to people around the office. Body and Soul was thought to be the most provocative name, especially with the ladies. Of course, it's really only a working title. We haven't even gotten the go-ahead on the show yet.' Palumbo says the NBC brass has already been presented with Body and Soul's 'bible'-a detailed description of the series and its characters, drawn up by the writing and production team. "We ought to know within the next few months whether the neywork will pick it up,' he relates. While Palumbo couldn't give specifics about the bible, sources close to the production say it includes a slew of new characters as well as six months of story. According to these sources, the show will focus on two New York neighborhoods-one upper crust, one working class. Marlena won't come into a lot of money suddenly, but will interact with the show's wealthy family. the Waterfields, whom the sources describe as similar to the Trumps. One of the show's preliminary storylines is rumored to be a love triangle featuring single mom Marlena and a Waterfield father and son. What will become of Roman(Wayne Northrop)? Since Northrup's contract ends this summer, his character's fate is anyone's guess. Whatever the outcome, sources say Roman is not mentioned in the Body and Soul bible. One character who is mentioned is Marlena's stepdaughter carrie (Tracy Middendorf). An issue oriented teen love story is supposedly in the works in which Carrie learns about safe sex. In addition to her stepdaughters company. Marlena will have a new best friend-PT Barnum. As her circusy name suggests, PT's an outgoing actress type based on Bette Midler's role in the movie Beaches, As mentioned in previous SOD, several ex Days stars are on the Body and Soul list, including Thaao Penghlis (Tony) and Leann Hunley (Anna). while some of the wish list actors have already been approached, real negotiations will begin if and when Body and Soul is approved for production. So I wasn't totally off on this. Thanks @Paul Raven for confirming facts. That name sucks btw. I would love to see that bible.
  21. She hated Marlena at the time, so she could have stayed with Shawn and Caroline. If Austin/Carrie would have spun off it would have changed so much, but I imagine they would have beefed up the teen scene. They had Lucas and Jamie and they would have had to cast Eric but there were 80's babies they could have brought on like Sarah, Noelle, Stefanie, Jeannie, Andrew, Jeremy Horton etc. They probably even could have gotten away with Shawn D and Justin and Adrienne's kids. It sounds weird now since they were all SORASed in weird order but Sami/Eric were born in 83, so it's conceivable to have any baby born within those 5 or 6 years to be their peers. Bo/Hope would have probably been the only parents to look too young and I would imagine Days might have extended offers to MBE or Patsy Pease to bring on more heroines. I would even consider bring Gloria Loring back for either of those shows. I'd buy she's an actress/singer in New York or she could come back to Salem to raise Noelle.
  22. It's weird to think of Marlena on a spin off period or without John. I wonder if they would have re-hired Wayne for that show. I again want to say Carrie, Belle, and Marlena would have shared an apartment and that would make sense. Not really sure how Jen would fit in but I guess all of them were friends. I think a brassy actress friend would work well for Marlena. She was great with Calliope/Eugene. I think it would have made more sense to bring Anna/Leanne Hunley on to be Marlena's wacky buddy and Carrie's mom. I honestly am not sure if this 'show' had any real traction. I think it would have taken too much away from Days. It doesn't make sense. PC only took Lucy/Kevin/Scott and they were supporting on GH for sure. It makes no sense to take your main heroine away. Plus, you would have to deal with John, Sami, Eric etc making cameos on the new show. I tend to think it was just a vanity clause in Dee's contract and no one would have given it the greenlight unless AW was cancelled.
  23. I honestly think Dee stayed on Days too long her first run for primetime success. She was about 40 the first time she left and, unfortunately, that's a little old. We did not know she wouldn't age for the next 20 years in 1987 lol. I want to say Christie Clark and Patrick Muldoon were going to be a part of Manhattan Lives? You can't find a lot of info on it anymore but DH was going to be a producer and I swear the premise was Marlena taking Belle to New York to start over and Carrie would become a model. It was supposed to start in 1994 if AW wasn't renewed and that sort of lines up with what was going on with the show at the time. I think I heard something about Missy doing it as well, but that seems to be taking a lot of heroines away from the mother show. Jen gets a syndication deal or a big shot for her show, so that all makes vague sense as far as what was going on in 93/94. I never heard anything about writers or other producers but I assume it would have been a Corday production. JER probably would have left to write that since he loved Marlena.
  24. Chris always seemed like someone who was always mentioned in recaps, but never did a whole lot. Like no standout pairing or storyline, but was featured. I have gone on record of my hatred for JT's Roman, but I think it's more my hatred for Roman as a character being completely marginalized. I mean, props to him for still working at his age with limited talent. I believe Dee actually was in negotiations. I think Drake did a fan event and even said she was coming back, but something fell through or she booked something else. I loved her on Wiseguy!! Dee in the late 80's seemed like a real go-getter trying to make all the money, so I believe she was interested in doing Days and other things at the same time. She did try to make it work with "Our House" for awhile there and even then I believe it was more of a Corday/NBC thing to write her off because she was in a coma for like a year lol. I feel like her deal in 1991 was really good for her, so I think she just played hardball because she could back then. Now she probably works for minimum wage lol. In a Genie Francis interview she talked about how hard it was to be accepted on Days and that RoJohn/Marlena fans would write her hate mail lol. But I thought Diana/Roman were fairly well received.
  25. Oh I forgot about that Marlena story in 1988. I guess negotiations with Deidre just fell through lol. And then SOD had that cover story with RoJohn/Diana getting married, but they just didn't. Or did it for show, but not legally. Something silly. Too bad Genie Francis had good chemistry with Drake. It's been forever since I have seen the jungle story, but I don't think it was an island. Wiki is telling me it is, but I don't recall that. It was where Peter Blake got the awesome "jungle madness" disease lol.
