  1. I've only seen speculation that Kamel was gay but never saw any confirmation from him. He seemed to be a bit of a loner. I liked him a lot on Days (and Monk). I enjoyed the storyline with Susan, Greg, and Eric. Though I do wish Denise Alexander had stuck around to finish it.
  2. It would be interesting to learn more about what Bell had in mind with those stories. The taping schedule then allowed them to quicklt change direction. I don't know why Sandy wasn't more fully developed as a character. I see Heather North occasionally on some of the late 60s tv shows on various retro channels.
  3. He did ramble a bit but he was charming. He's in his 80s. Wish he would write a book or have someone help him with one.
  4. Since Kenney talks about meeting his wife Heather North (Sandy Horton) and their son, here is the christening for their son.
  5. This is part of an interview with H. Wesley Kenney who was Days producer/director in the 60s/70s. He starts out talking about directing The Doctors but then goes onto Days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjHzMiPuRMc#at=16
  6. John Karlen is apparently ill and in a hospital/rehabilitation center. The Collinsport Historical Society From Marie Hentz Maginity: "John Karlen is at Studio City Rehabilition Center, 11429 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604 in Room 10. Adam (his son) says our guy could use some major cheering up so everyone please write a letter or send a card." https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=622419927770738&l=fbb2ae0dae
  7. This is a short early 70s interview with Days writer Bill Rega. Interesting that Days considered doing a prison rape storyline long ago but it was quashed by NBC. That must have been when Bill and Doug were in prison. I wonder who was going to be raped? Maybe Bill as retribution for raping Laura? I do remember Bill getting attacked by a gang while he was in prison and Doug rescued him.
  8. I liked Gwen too. And I think Ann-Marie Martin is one of the most beautiful women ever on Days.
  9. One of my biggest gripes with Nola's return was her obsession with Buzz. I just couldn't see her being attracted to him. He was the type she always dreamed of getting away from. I don't think being married to Quint would have changed that.
  10. From the July 1971 Afternoon TV (they spelled his first name wrong on the cover!).
  11. I'm very sorry to hear about Linden Chiles. He was one of my favorites.
  12. LOL, I guess if someone didn't know the characters it could look that way. Interesting that a story about a considered abortion would be featured in an ad that long ago. I wonder whether they would get away with that now? I'm guessing the woman from the past in the Bill and Laura story was Linda Phillips. She tried to pass Melissa off as Mickey's daughter for a second time after he got amnesia. Laura had previously told her about Mickey's sterility the first time she tried to do it.
  13. Thanks for the articles. Peter Burnell was my favorite Mike Powers. Lucky Mrs. Turvin!
  14. Wow, that Lisa Howard story is interesting (and sad). I have never heard of her. What roles did she play on the soaps?
  15. I'm just jealous of the girl since I was a teen myself at the time and found him very attractive!
  16. I never knew Gerald Gordon dated a teenager!
  17. I really liked Heather North as Sandy Horton. She and Wes Kenney seemed like an odd couple but I believe they are still together. Thanks for sharing!
  18. I loved this show when I was a kid. I was so upset when it was canceled, not knowing what was to come in its place!
  19. Joyce wasn't overtly bitchy. That's why she was so effective. She could fool a lot of people with her innocent act. And definitely not a diva. Loved her!
  20. I loved Elizabeth Kemp's Betsy. She came across as gentle and sensitive without seeming weak. Of course, Christopher Reeve was a much better Ben too. What in the world happened to Birgitta Tolksdorf's hair in these clips?! Tudi Wiggins was still the best thing about this show at this time.
  21. Nola's best friend Gracie (also pictured) was a hairdresser and moved to Hollywood where she became Joan Bennett's hairdresser. I think Gracie had actually met Joan in Springfield while doing her hair for an appearance and Joan offered her the job. If I'm remembering correctly, this was Joan's hotel suite. Gracie asked Joan to meet Nola because Nola was an old movie fanatic. I couldn't find the scene in the picture but Joan is at the beginning of this clip when Nola and Gracie say goodbye at the airport (I hated to see Gracie go, she and Nola were a great team). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YofU6-tzZYc
  22. From July 1971 Afternoon TV, Patrick Horgan, who played Dr. John Morrison, the psychiatrist who married Althea Davis and gave her and Nick so much trouble. One of my all-time favorite soap villains. I believe in real-life he's currently married to Susie Horgan, the new co-head writer for OLTL.
  23. Bob Hover, who played Russ Matthews in the early 70s, has died. He's the first Russ I remember clearly. The article only mentions Another World but I also remember him as Brian Ellison on As the World Turns in the mid-70s. I believe he appeared in a few other soaps too. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118066647/?cmpid=RSS|News|LatestNews
  24. Yes, Julia Duffy played Penny, Althea's daughter.
  25. Thanks, I'll try to find it! Regarding Jada, I thought she was too young and pretty to be Carolee. As Campbell pointed out, Carolee was already 30-ish as far back as 1971.
