I heard about the heavy grilling Muir gives Kamala in that. Just another example of the media bias. They will do anything for Trump.

I do agree Trump will get a bounce (there are pollsters who exist solely to inflate numbers for him). I didn't think Biden would get much - the truth is no politicians have gotten much in years. The media doesn't want to talk about that though. I know the media will convince everyone the RNC strategy is great, but other than moving some people in Florida I'm not sure how many will care. It feels very stale.

@DramatistDreamer I saw earlier that Rand Paul is pushing for the Post Office to start cutting rural service to 3 times a week. I wonder if these voters will ever wake up. 26 Republicans joined the Democrats in the House to pass a funding Post Office bill today. It isn't going anywhere, but it is, sadly, the biggest revolt McConnell and Trump have faced. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/22/democrats-postal-service-rescue-400188

Adam Nagourney wrote a bunch of pro-GOP, pro-W pieces during the 2004 election cycle. The NYT has a LOT to lose if Trump is defeated. They will continue to ramp up their efforts to help him and to push a narrative of the Republican comeback. We will get 24/7 Republican comeback, just as we are getting 24/7 talk about how there is no bounce, or the Dem convention actually gave Trump a bounce, or it did nothing to defend Biden and Democrats and now the door is wide open for Trump, look out, he is incredible and wily, etc. They are going to will this win into happening if it is the last thing they do.

@Vee you probably already saw those but she made some very ghoulish remarks criticizing Biden, in a passive-aggressive, gutless way, of exploiting the deaths of his wife and children. All this "I hope when I'm that old I am over this stuff...LOL!!!" type of crassness. The Beltway is so full of sociopaths, along with these dipshits with horseshoes shoved up their asses. Glenn Greenwald was recently chatting with Ryan Grim and whatever died on Ryan's head about the shame of anyone offering a whisper of criticism of this guy: https://www.timesofisrael.com/kansas-student-19-wins-state-house-primary-admits-to-harassing-girls-online/- The Politics Thread
@marceline that is awful. I hope the Democrats never go back to real conventions, to be honest. The 2016 convention was hurt by their stunts and with the increasing amount of unhinged rhetoric from some on the left. There is a very vested effort by many on the left and many in the press to downplay any positives of this convention to benefit Trump. On the same day Rose McGowan ranted and raved, The Atlantic put out a piece to talk about how the convention gave Trump an opening to make people think he has a great economic record and that Biden will support extremism - a piece with the usual suspects like James Carville (who even went on TV in 2018 in a desperate and successful effort to set a narrative that Democrats didn't do well). You have CNN piling on too. Other sites like Politico are also putting out various articles with Ted Kaufman to try to further alienate left-wing voters. So many who are in power or want to be in power in the media want a Trump comeback story and will profit from more of what we have now. They are becoming more and more brazen in trying to make this comeback a reality, keeping silent even as he is planning to send out thugs on Election Day. This is why I think if Biden wins it will only be very narrowly and probably with a lot of pain through the process and aftermath. Too many people in the hierarchy have too much to lose without Trump.- The Politics Thread
I see that CNN already has their talking points in line (the same ones I'm seeing from a lot of fauxgressives on Twitter), having Angela Rye in a major role to talk about Biden not being good enough because of a lack of policy proposals. (spoiler alert - when Democrats give policy proposals, the same media voices call them "wonky" and say they are too out of touch with the regular folks - the trick is nothing the Democrats ever do is right for Trump-supporting outlets like CNN) The "they aren't giving a reason to vote for them" talking points are everywhere, just as they are every 4 years. All I will say is if people don't have a reason to vote this year, they never will. I just give up on those people at this point. I also saw a lot of handwringing over the lack of Tulsi and Julian Castro. I'd guess that Harris' people wanted nothing to do with Tulsi and Biden's didn't with Castro. I can't say they are wrong in either case...especially Tulsi's. I don't know when I'm going to watch Biden's speech, but I did watch Jill Biden's and I thought she did a very good job, especially when she talked about the family she became a part of. She was just the right blend of natural and polished.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I'm not sure why that was released early as it's just going to end up becoming a controversy and giving the media and the GOP talking points. Speaking of the media games, I am not surprised that NBC, which is likely still infiltrated by Andrew Lack's flunkies, led the charge in trying to convince people that AOC was "going rogue" and asking people to vote for Bernie. They did anything they could to help Trump in 2016, to the point of having that sicko Lauer fawn over him in primetime while grilling Hillary. And they're back again. The roll call was a beautiful moment, a wonderful use of the new convention style, and genuinely moving as we saw so many parts of our country (seeing Matthew Shepard's parents brought back so many memories for me, I was very touched). Yet that was all overshadowed, as was the plan. If Trump wins he will dismantle the media. If Biden wins I hope some of the people in his administration will consider doing the same. Something has to change.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
I don't trust anything involving China.- The Politics Thread
Michelle Obama gave such a beautiful speech in 2016, which many dismissed as out of touch, but was trying to appeal to a better America she hoped for, even if she likely knew it didn't exist. This year her speech was cutting and just as powerful, and made the most of the lack of applause and hollering - that "it is what it is," followed by silence, was more brutally effective than a million campaign ads can ever be. I'm glad she never has run for politics as the same racists and hatemongers who have spent a decade assailing her and her family would have really gone into overdrive, but it's our loss, not hers.- The Politics Thread
Trump is probably going to do his pathetic shell game about the post office, putting out a meaningless EO while he and his supporters cast the Democrats as ineffectual and uncaring. I just hope people don't fall for it if that happens. I just wish Republicans could lose the Senate because even if Biden does win, the Senate is blocking any change.- The Politics Thread
I think they still believe Trump could win, as the talking points are still going out (the latest being attempts to revive the narrative about black and Hispanic voters abandoning Democrats), but they are now in a win-win position, because even if he loses, he's leaving the country in ruins, and they know the press and the public will blame Democrats, the way they always do. Cultists - the Q people will be in full force, and they are increasingly dangerous.- The Politics Thread
In another attempt to change the narrative for Trump, CNN (whose main boss has bragged about Trump's help to their network) has a poll out showing Biden up +4. I do believe it's that close (or closer), but the narrative will be dishonest, as the media will do anything to help Trump win. They need him for relevance and ratings. Expect a lot of push this week about his comeback and about blaming Harris, and any efforts possible to ignore stories like these:- The Politics Thread
I can see why Pelosi moved the date up - the optics of waiting a month (especially since apparently that would have been after ballots started going out) would have been awful. Unfortunately I don't think the hearings will do anything, and will just be used by the GOP and the media as a weapon against Democrats. Republicans on the committee will make an ugly display, they will distract, Democrats will be criticized for not doing enough to stop them, and Dejoy will waddle away with the topic safely changed. There's a reason why the media is trying to move people away from this story and onto things like birhterism 2.0 or does Obama think Biden is a terrible candidate, etc. The worst part is I can't even say people may be better off voting in person because, even if I put aside the pandemic, which we can't, more polling places are being shutdown and the GOP are hiring more poll watchers to intimidate voters. Barring a landslide, Trump and his cronies have managed to shut down many Democratic votes from all angles.- The Madonna Thread

The other problem with Brittany was she was not only introduced as deaf, but her deafness was caused from a flood that killed the child she had with Catlin. (I think Catlin had assumed she was also dead, or something). On paper, such a heavy backstory makes sense for turning a character "bad," but it can easily just feel exploitive and crass. Then they seemed to start a lighter romance with her old EON partner Chris Holder as Peter, only to replace him and have Peter become an [!@#$%^&*]. - The Media/Journalism Thread
