  1. I actually think this is a timely and interesting topic. The truth is when you are rich and powerful, and involved with your co-workers, there is going to be some inappropriate behavior in terms of power imbalance. And I get the feeling that his relationship with Zoe repulsed many viewers at the time. With that said, I do think the choice to have this become about a Maori woman wanting to cast out all the white devils is in very poor taste, and feels oddly tone deaf for the show. Anyway, thank you and thank you to @Bright Eyes and @Dion who have both done a lot to help introduce me to the show on here and talk about it over the years. I hope you are enjoying it. And if you have any sway with the producers, can you please bring Boyd back and ship Desi off in his place? Or just ship Desi off...I'm not choosy.
  2. Trump has never been as influential in primaries as he's made out to be. It's that the media obsesses over any endorsement he makes. Speaking of Georgia, Lucy McBath, who beat a truly brain dead Republican hack (Karen Handel) for a swing district in 2018, was put into another district and won her primary tonight against a fellow Congresswoman. She ran for office due to losing her son to gun violence, so today must be all the bitter and none of the sweet.
  3. It's that time again. (this whitewash was written by the equally talentless grifter sister of Bari Weiss).
  4. @Vee amazing writeup - I especially love the details about Abby's house. I was never that thrilled with most of Lillimae's writing in her years as a regular compared to her guest shot, with the exception of two story arcs, but Julie was always at her best.
  5. Rosemary is terrific on here - while I appreciate the array of old Hollywood names who pop up once the show became a hit, I miss the early seasons having so many soap figures in rich support roles. I have never really gotten John Considine's appeal, but I blame that partly on how much I hated his AW character.
  6. If you want to keep doing long thoughts on each episode, that's fine with me. These first few seasons are so different week to week and also very different to how streamlined the show is going to get around season 4 or 5, so this is the best chance to explore these thoughts. I had totally forgotten about this episode so appreciate the recap. Steve Shaw was never much of an actor, but to me he was the soul of the Fairgate family. Once he leaves that setup becomes more and more ossified and Karen becomes more and more of a caricature. I was always much more drawn to Val's friendship with Laura, which we don't get as much of. Karen and Val are...fine, but also tends to veer on forced.
  7. https://deadline.com/2022/05/snl-kate-mckinnon-aidy-bryant-kyle-mooney-pete-davidson-exit-1235029349/ End of an era, I suppose, but long overdue. I wish a few more people were leaving with them. My guess is Lorne is asking some people to stay quiet for now.
  8. I never noticed how much slow build they really did put into Gary's change of personality until you mention it. The best thing about Kenny is his looks. They probably should have done more with that and less of him as a high-flying record producer. (I guess the Kristin episode has already aired?)
  9. Sorry, I thought that was already aired. I enjoyed seeing Priscilla too, who I suppose was more known for her work on Dallas around this time. You probably already know this, but the hooker in the season 1 finale was played by Carolyn Conwell (Mary Williams). Now that you are talking about season 2 I am reminded of how strange the opener with Conchata Ferrell was, much as I loved seeing her. They try to do a variation of this class warfare in a season premiere many years later...I will save my rants for when you get there.
  10. @Vee I was wondering what you thought of the episode about Ginger being stalked over her abortion (sadly, more timely than anyone would want, and one of the better attempts at a thriller on KL for me, even if it's all very campy) and also the episode with Val's cancer, which due to Ted Shackelford's performance is one of the most ridiculous episodes of the show for me.
  11. That will be great.
  12. It speaks volumes that the only criticism this hack cared about heading off was from the right.
  13. State of independence is a beautiful song. I suppose he may best be remembered for Blade Runner.
  14. I am hoping there's been enough stories about the school board takeovers to wake voters up, but so much still goes under the radar. Another awful story about the Roe fallout:
  15. I didn't know any of this. Always appreciate your details. This was before Melanie had her film comeback. I'm surprised none of the soaps tried to bring Tracy on around that time to cash in on the name.
  16. Erika is like that drunk aunt you have to put up with at increasingly infrequent family gatherings. People try to figure out why she's so drunk, and angry, but ultimately they just try to ignore her as much as possible.
  17. Oof. Between the bad singing, Lisa Lawrence's bug eyes (made worse by the makeup), and the inherent cheesiness (not the good kind), what a great example of how rudderless Valente's ATWT was. And I don't buy that Paul didn't know the Twist. Considering how square Marland's Oakdale was, I imagine Paul, Lien and Andy went to every dance class led by Ellen, Bob, and occasional visitor Penny.
  18. @slick jones I thought this might interest you about the Catlins episode I posted. The guy who uploaded it, Tony Wright, replied to a question of mine about who he played: "I played Tony, the young thug who isn't Ox Baker the professional wrestler. The character was originally Pete in the script, but I asked Chris McIntyre, the producer, if they could call me by my name, Tony."
