  1. Good eye @j swift . I am trying to remember if the soaps here ever had a major character named Mavis. Corrie, of course, had an iconic character with that name.
  2. @Faulkner Yes, every week I check to see if the song is still on the charts. I know some are sick of hearing it, but I'm just glad Kate finally has her moment in the US. I do wish some of her other songs could get some traction too as she has so many classics, but that won't take away from what she has accomplished here, and apparently some of those songs actually have benefited: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/kate-bush-stranger-things-sync-warner-music-1235197021/
  3. Unless Georgia reverts to Republicans excelling in runoffs (very possible), Georgia's runoff system may help keep Warnock's chances viable (although the closer Kemp gets to avoiding a runoff the warier I am as that will also benefit Walker). I've tried not to go near some of the circle jerking on Twitter about how Walker can't win. He is in many ways a perfect candidate for the state, ticking boxes of diversity while being a brain dead right wing stooge. It took a lot of breaks in 2020-1 for Warnock and Ossoff to win - awful opponents who could not hide behind any football glory (Kelly Loeffler may have been one of the worst candidates in years and years), Biden's team investing heavily in Georgia, the stupid decision by McConnell to not allow more stimulus checks, and finally, high-profile Trump supporters outright telling Georgia Republicans to not vote in the runoff. Warnock is a very strong senator and candidate, and as you said, a candidate for the future, so I'm really hoping he has a good shot. There are too many shaky races (NH, NV) and if Georgia goes the most we may get is more 50-50 (and that's mostly down to Oz because I have little to no faith in Fetterman). I don't agree with the people who are claiming that Democrats are only doing well in special elections because of the level of intensity they bring compared to a midterm, but I do have my worries about just how November might go. I am just trying to remind myself of how unreliable polling is, good or bad, and try to find a reason to get through each day.
  4. @victoria foxton @Soapsuds @NothinButAttitude @DramatistDreamer@Paul Raven @Vee
  5. There were the Crossthwaites, Annie's cousins (although I know Annie was not a blood Sugden). I was thinking more along the lines of bringing in a long-lost child for Joe or Jack. Saying that Marian's child was Jack's after all would be a good way to tie 50 years of history into present day.
  6. Perusing the minor characters list briefly reminded me of confusing it was to see Bill Shanks pop up on AW months after a high-profile exit on ATWT. I wonder if he was ever planned to have a larger role.
  7. Another Daily Caller booster reminding us why CNN is propaganda.
  8. Kevin McCarthy isn't long for power either way. He has no charisma, no backbone, and will be seen as the main enemy if he is Speaker and doesn't call for all Democrats to be lined up in the street and shot. He's a loser in every way, just like his old cronies Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor.
  9. I hated a lot of Corrie's 50th, so I will probably have a higher opinion of this by default, but they have done nothing to make me care. Or much of anyone. This would be the perfect time to bring in another offshoot of the Sugdens, or ask Karl Davies if he might return for one episode, or even Kelvin for one episode, but it's a lot of nothing.
  10. This story with Hannah is odd. Was the house meant to be haunted (by Julie or someone)? @Ben ? I don't know if this was seen as doldrums period for the show, although I can see why Annalise was popular, and Jason Donovan's father is more likeable onscreen than he tended to be.
  11. Kelli Giddish (ex-AMC) has been let go from SVU, which has been causing Twitter trends and backlash from some fans. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/why-is-kelli-giddish-leaving-law-and-order-svu-1235350955/
  12. Yes, many DW episodes were junked, and some that were saved were saved only because of filing errors or because the titles of episodes made someone think they were news or documentary. So many shows being junked, and films, radio, etc. hurts my heart. Like the story about Colleen Moore donating all her films for preservation, only to later learn after donating them that they had been rotted away. Every day I check to see if some media has been recovered, even for some movie I'm never going to see. I used to read all about the old newspaper strips and wonder about whether they were saved. I would guess they are on microfiche somewhere, but so much stuff has been left out decaying or is accidentally destroyed, who knows. It doesn't help that most material is so hard to find. I know someone on Twitter who posts old Gasoline Alley strips but if there are any books they're hugely priced.
  13. Yes. I used to say that Emmerdale of all the soaps was the one that managed to still have relatively decent quality with 6 (they've had since for 10+ years), but the bottom of the show has really fallen out over the last 5 years. I don't believe any UK soap should have more than 4 episodes a week, and even that is pushing it.
  14. I see that Paul Begala, still dining out on 1992, was also on CNN heavily trashing the student loan plan. The Beltway really has all hands on deck trying to make this a poisonous policy. Shameful.
  15. 6. Until the cast and crew strain got to them they even tried to expand to 7.
  16. It's hard to tell you as organizing is so scattershot. This playlist has an episode from the '50s and one from the '70s and '80s. There are some episodes here, the few I saw being from the '80s. https://www.youtube.com/user/RandomRadioJottings/videos Reading this reminded me that the BBC did not start archiving The Archers until 1994, which would shock me if I had not already heard about the terrible practices of the UK outlets (like Crossroads episodes being junked well into the '90s). https://missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/3103/missing-archers-episodes As shown in the link, some vintage episodes were put out on sale...not sure if they are around to buy or find now.
  17. More embarrassing cowering from McConnell and his loathsome flacks (one of the others, Matt Whitlock, is still pushing the "vegetable" attack against John Fetterman). He was foolish to go out there and trash these candidates in the first place. Now he just looks spineless.
  18. I've tried to look a few times and there were just a handful I could find from that far back. I hope more are out there...
  19. The "liberal" media is more interested in this clown car than in any attempt at reality. Between this and clips out there of Dana Bash looking even more terrified than usual as Chris Sununu smarms out talking points, it's no wonder I keep seeing far right voters praising the new CNN. I hope people have finally woken up about just how wretched this channel is.
  20. That's a lot.
  21. Really enjoying these writeups, @Vee whatever the length. I had forgotten Karen's pill story was this season rather than next season. Definitely some of Michelle Lee's best work. The interweaving of stories here with the combination of personal and psychological traumas and corporate power is a gambit that the show had to take, and one that fortunately continues to pay off for a number of years. I do wish we'd gotten more with Millie Perkins, who has a lot of potential and plays a woman a world away from the ladies of Seaview. As I'm sure you know we get a little more several seasons down the line, but, again, not enough. Sumner had so much story packed into the remainder of the show's life, but it was processed in a way that tended to limit breathing. I think you hit on what dooms Laura in their relationship - Devane and McCashin have wonderful chemistry and there are many wonderful scenes between them, but because so much is always going on with Greg, she just ends up being one part of his life, with her own point of view less and less important. This is also where the show, or Donna Mills, draws the line between Abby the bad girl and the genuine antagonists on the show, which probably needed to be drawn more than I realized until your recaps. This is pretty much the high point of interesting material between Greg and Mack.
  22. @jam6242 So sad to hear about Robert. I know he did many things but he'll always be Leo Flynn to me. This has been a tough year for P&G alum.
  23. Ashvin Luximon, who played Martin's mate Asif in the early '00s, has passed away. https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eastenders/a41006795/eastenders-ashvin-luximon-dies-aged-38/ I always liked Asif. So many EE alum have passed this year.
