2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
Yes, they mention that in the article...I was thinking more along the lines that their return may be why networks have started to have a few more hits again. SAG and DGA contracts are up at the end of June, I think, so I wonder if they will join in or not.

Knots Landing
Mr. Lee, the beloved groundskeeper who had been close to Karen and her family for years...offcamera. Still, better material than most of what Mrs. Lee got in her later years at Knots.

2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
Thanks. The part about creatives flocking back to networks seems to coincide with a few shows (mainly sitcoms) having a network revival. Yet I wonder if any of the bigwigs will see this as a possible future or will just, as this article details, keep chasing after the likes of Yellowstone, which already seems to be flailing around and ridden with conflict, full of characters who don't connect (which is why they keep stunt casting). There's been a lot of framing of the strike already as in the shows are so bad, clearly the writers aren't good, bring on AI, or oh these are all liberal propaganda - both the left and the right have been pushing this. I guess it's just the start. I imagine many on top in the industry have been waiting for the moment to permanently crush these unions and send writers to the bare minimum. That's why I won't be surprised if this stretches on for most of the year. I hope sanity wins out, because otherwise, especially with AI, we're turning a corner we'll never come back from. I agree in theory with what that person said about how streaming getting slashed just means less focus on the bad programs, but with the likes of Ryan Murphy and his sickness still ruling the roost, it's hard to imagine being a reality.

When Holden returned, after getting total recall again from a motorcycle accident, he was promptly knocked out by Diego and put in the wine cellar with Lucinda. They buried the hatchet, as Lucinda now realized there were far worse men than Holden in Lily's life. One of the few positive choices FMB made with Lucinda, and one which mostly stuck.

DAYS: Peter Porte joins the show
An extremely unpopular character, but Ron will never give up on his pets. Until he gets bored, anyway.

DAYS: Peter Porte joins the show
I have vague memories of him on Y&R, where he was hyped by many, but I felt like he was going to break into song and dance at any random moment.

I wonder if it was intended to send a message not only to her, but any other actors who might come in and put on airs.

He looks like a villain from the '60s Batman show here. Still, at least it's interesting, I guess.

@safe @slick jones @Paul Raven @victoria foxton Partial episode. This has full cast credits. I do not know if this episode is already available the way many 1987 episodes are as I haven't watched a ton of them. If it is, my apologies.

Doug had inherited his money from his dead wife, yes. The colder Holden mostly sustains while Marland is alive. After Martha Byrne returns, the traces are still there, but there's more and more focus on him wanting to win Lily back and proving Damian is a criminal. There's also the story of him taking Aaron back from Iva, a story which angered me a great deal at the time, because a) I'm petty and I always thought Holden was a smug dullard while Iva was one of my favorites and b) he dumped Aaron off on Emma all the time to chase Lily and then to start dating a woman while pining for Lily. He spent more time caring for her son (who was deaf) than he did spending time with his son. There was finally a scene where Emma told him he was a deadbeat, essentially, and to raise his child. Not that long after this, Holden finally realized he needed to move on, and left Oakdale with Aaron. He was off the show for about two years, until early 1997, and when he came back (minus Aaron, who was taken in by Julie - bad writing as Julie was not capable of raising a child), he became the Holden you described. The main reason John left Lucinda is because of her lies and control issues, some big ones involving his last long lost son, Duke (not sure how much detail you really want as I'm sure you will be watching them someday). He and Lucinda divorced in 1990 but he still remained close to her.

He also can't really act, just muttering and making "sexy" faces. And bugging his eyes.

Thanks @vetsoapfan I was hoping you'd know. Always apprecaite it.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
That's true. The styles and general demeanor of the ATWT heroines of that period were a factor. Even Ellie, who was often in "comedy," had that darker undercurrent.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
That's true, but the murder mystery ended only a few months before Marland died. I think those years were very dark, which isn't a criticism. I do think the ponderous nature would have been tightened up by the exits and story conclusions which were on deck in 1993, but much as I like 1991 and 1992 overall I feel like there were a lot of dead spots, especially with the younger cast and the general aimlessness due to stalling out the Carolyn plot. I don't think he would have been able to stomach what P&G would become by 1995 and 1996. Realistically he and Caso probably would have both been out in 1995.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
One of the responses I remember hearing from some at the show, or magazine writers, or fans, was Craig blew up a truck, he's always been bad. He did that 20 years earlier. That's like justifying that weird, sleazy story with Margo and that Doc guy by saying Margo slept with a married James Stenbeck in the early '80s so who cares. It goes against the entire point of character growth. I do think the show lost a great deal in 1993 and 1994. I still think 1995 was overall a strong year, Valente and the hacks P&G brought in just destroyed any progress. Much as I defend those very dark, ponderous final few years under Marland, if I'm being honest, I think the show was going to hit a wall even if he had lived. But I want to believe - if he had stayed (which is a big if as he had been there for nearly a decade already and had tried for other shows), he would have kept it from falling to where it went. I also have to imagine he never would have made obvious mistakes like the handling of Shannon's return.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread

One of the reasons I was so disappointed is because, even though the writing on GL wasn't exactly great, I did think Hunt Block added some layers to his work as Ben Warren. When he showed up on ATWT with that terrible dye job, smirking and noise-making, it just felt wrong. That was what Sheffer wanted, though - a "man with balls." And the soap press of the time, full of people desperate to cling to any life raft and full of people who put their own tiresome attempts at branding through snark above all else, lapped it up.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

I doubt Dawn is gone, as she left her dog behind. Jack I would not be surprised by as it's obvious the show has no use for him, but if that was his exit, it's a shockingly terrible one. Someone please travel to Ferndale and put guards around to stop Dawn or Esther from ever returning.- Loving/The City Discussion Thread
