  1. For me Steve was a bigger loss than Eliot, although I enjoyed Eliot. Just not so much when his story became all about Raven.
  2. Do you think they changed any of the edit for the episode after the news broke about Apollo? Or was some of what they showed (like his hostility toward her at the ceremony) in line with their edit?
  3. Some promos from around this time. (go to about 1:45) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6b3C5UZicM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsIuvmLtv6Q That stuff with Nina and Pilar is like fine wine in a sea of grape juice - "Which husband?" "Oh, she's every man's friend." It's too bad that didn't lead anywhere.
  4. Thanks for reading. I forgot it was NBC, not ABC. I should have put NBC. I wish I could see some of the show, especially since the female cast didn't do a lot of other big soap roles. I have a few other articles around here and there, when I can find them.
  5. Coming on this show was a PR disaster for Christopher Williams, especially since I keep seeing people bring up those rumors about Halle Berry. It was nasty. It felt like they were just waiting for a reason. Peter is so insecure, maybe this made him feel big.
  6. Thanks. I wonder when that was from.
  7. You get the feeling that Peter and Apolo had already decided previously if they ever had a chance they'd beat him up. Something about Peter seems really nasty to me. I mean genuinely nasty. This is why having this united front of husbands isn't always the greatest idea.
  8. Watched the next one. Bell really got heavy use out of Leanna at this point, as she breezes between Brad, Victor, and Jack. I was shocked at the flirtation with Victor and Leanna, and his propositioning her. I didn't know they had that type of interaction after they split. I love that she was the one to turn him down and tease him, and that this wasn't presented as being a whore or a bad woman. How sad that we were so much more progressive in 1990 than we are now. Paul was an idiot to go and see Cassandra when they knew Adam could have come back at any time. Nina Arvesen was superb in this episode and especially in those last scenes - she is so fragile and so broken as Cassandra, truly making you feel everything for the character. Lots of T&A with Leanna in this episode, especially that jiggle walk on the way to the front door. I don't remember her having that role a few years later. I did laugh when she slammed the door on Brad in time with the Y&R theme - good reaction from Don Diamont, and a kookier type of humor that Y&R did well with her. This plan to replace Marge is very exciting, even though I know it won't end well. I love love love Marge's line about how she and Katherine came out of a ketchup bottle. I'm sorry that they brought back Marge later on. I wish we'd just gotten to believe she was happy and alive offcamera.
  9. Marcy and Tess. Earl Mitchell was very campy, although that's mostly from Farley Granger's queening. A lot of other side characters/short-term characters too, like that ridiculous daughter of Jared Carpenter's. And of course the divine Lilith, who was camp personified.
  10. It depends on the material. I'd say a lot of Shannon's run could qualify as zany, but her dunking Barbara's head in the toilet was pure camp. Actually most of Barbara in 1986 was camp, camp, camp, probably the gayest thing Doug Marland ever wrote. (Lucinda was the same way - she toned down a lot once they put her with John, but 1986 was diva drag histrionics).
  11. Season 3 is one of those seasons I want to go back and watch again sometime. I think it's the season that really made Knots everything it would later be. I wouldn't recast Eric. I think that Dallas remake shows how bad these revivals are at recasting these types of roles. I'd just say he is gone, and if they want drama, maybe have a not-dead Linda return with his adult son or daughter, out to scam the family.
  12. Great twist at the end! Poor Sharlene. Vicky will be furious at Lindsay becoming close to Bridget. It's really building up now. When Donna of all people advises to tell the truth, Vicky should listen. Great use of ATWT history. Catchy video too.
  13. Me too. I hope they might. Maree came back a few times so she might again. It seems like Sandy was around for a good few years, although it's tough to find story material on her. I don't think I'd ever seen a soap actor wearing love beads, so John Lupton crossed that off the list. These magazines perpetually confuse me about the spelling of Maree's first name.
  14. I never understood why they didn't bring Pat back. I guess Frons got cooties at the thought.
  15. Afternoon TV April 1969.
  16. When I started watching the 1980 AW episodes I'd assumed it would be for Rachel and Mac, but that baby/murder trial story is so interminable, I mostly find myself watching for Blaine, Pat, and Cecile. Kit is so dowdy and boring. I like Amy, she's a good bitch, but overall the Halloways, even Miranda (although Judith McConnell does her best). I guess we're soon heading for Jerry's mother's murder. It's too bad, as I liked her.
  17. Just watched the Jill visits Marge clip. I'm glad to finally know how the David/Jill association ended - David beating her at her own game. I guess I'm not surprised Jill never considered that he was putting blackmail stuff together about her, but I wanted her to punch him out. He's just so unlikeable. Jeanne Cooper giving another wonderful, understated dual performance in this episode, as Marge tried to ignore Jill and Katherine buttered up Morey. This all could have been hamming but she made it more low-key. The scene with Esther and Lil was very sad. They make us see the human side of the kidnappers, but in a natural way, not forced. Marge was right to not want to do anything with doctors. Clint seems very naive. Victor was thisclose to saying, "Who put those ideas in your head?" when Nikki was berating him about John. I do roll my eyes a little at the idea that she would only think these things because Jack had spoken to her. I wonder if Bill Bell had more plans for Jim/Nikki but realized it was a nonstarter.
  18. I think Duncan/Shannon were more gothic romance, but Shannon had a fair amount of camp (especially with Harriet and Earl). That seemed to tone down after a few years, of course.
  19. Marland seemed to take out all of his wackier excesses through Shannon and Shannon/Duncan. Once Margaret Reed left his writing seemed to become more somber all around.
