2012: The Directors and Writers Thread

Dave Ryan joining Days as a (if I'm reading it correctly) breakdown writer is what stands out to me. Pretty lucky break for someone who has only written a handful of GH and AMC scripts and who, I believe, doesn't have a past with Tomlin.

I thought his AMC scripts were pretty good, 2nd behind Kate Hall in quality.

Is there any past Tomlin/Melissa Salmons connection?

I found that odd too. Tomlin usually hires people he worked with before or promote from within. Maybe they have the same agent.

I don't believe they worked together before, unless I'm missing information from their credits. But they probably know each other from working in the industry for such a long time and maybe Tomlin's always wanted to work with her.

Honestly, this is how it SHOULD read:

Gary Tomlin

Christopher Whitesell

Meg Bennett

Michelle Poteet Lisanti

Fran Myers

David Cherrill

Carolyn Culliton

Richard Culliton

Judith Donato

Courtney Simon

Melissa was on staff ((I believe) of ATWT when Broderick was HW. Melissa has a stellar reputation and spent years at GL and may have been at GL when Broderick was working with Demorest/Curlee. Salmons also did a stint at AW at the end as a script writer with the Cullitons. The Cullitons probably got her the job; they probably got Iacubuzio back too. Janet has followed or worked with the Cullitons for years.

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?

    • @Paul Raven thank you for the synopsis! I enjoy reading these before dozing off for the night. That aside, this Charles character sounds like a horror, just reading about him. I can only imagine how he was watching in real time. But it is intriguing to, as I wish there were more clips of LOL out there besides the one episode from this era that I've seen, which is the one of Cal getting in the car wreck.
    • Dear God in Heaven (/KatherineChancellor), maybe blazer is the wrong word - I’m just saying André needs to wear baggy clothes or larger sizes cause he’s a short king and the sizes they’ve chosen for him make him look smaller and shorter than necessary
