Based on the local market ratings it looks like the soaps have an up week and the winter storms helped on Monday including a holiday for public schools in Chicago. First March Sweep day Thursday saw an uptick in viewers also but Friday was a dead day for some soaps.

I have the ratings for New York City on Monday March 2, 2009 and they were higher than usual for the soaps on all three of the networks although ABC is their highest rated soaps network in the market. I will have many other cities for the same day and ratings for other days during the week but only for the TOP 5 markets and two other cities.

Here's New York, NY (#1 media market in the country) first:

Please post the rest of those markets as this looks interesting. I can't believe how huge the ratings for soaps are in New York.

Yes please post the markets. It's always interesting to me how significantly they diverge from the national ratings. Hard to believe all three ABC soaps beat or tie Y&R in NYC and OLTL was the top ranked ABC soap! Boggles my brain.

Goes to show how our perceptions of the shows are not always consistent regionally. ABC must be thrilled that their soaps are doing so well in the Northeast where there are the big media markets. This is why they probably ignore the outrage and fan comments on the Internet. Yet the demos are in trouble which is explains why they are trying to make changes on the shows.

All anybody watched where I lived was ABC. (I grew up in new York then moved to Boston when I was 13)
I was so happy when I found Stacey (girl I went to school with) who watched Y&R and B&B!!! These were the Sheila Carter days and we LOVED HER.

GH of course was #1, My mother's show was AMC, mine was OLTL and Y&R)
I remember getting out of school when I was 9- walking home and one of my neighbors(she was probably 13) was crying. I was like "What's wrong!??!"

"Tanya died".

"Who the F is Tanya!?"

It was Tanya on General Hospital. I think she played Brad Maule's wife.

I love seeing OLTL #1 in NYC. It is the lowest rated soap in most of the southern states east of Texas. Wasn't OLTL a strong #1 in Dallas a few weeks back??

I will have the local markets ready in 30 mins to 1 hour they include NY, LA, CHI, PHI, DAL, SF-OAK-SJ (new), ATL, HOU (new) DET, CLE, DEN, STL (new), CHA, INDY, & Ft. Myers, FLA.

Make note that all Left Coast (West Coast cities LA & BAY AREA) don't include their whole ratings so they may look low b/c their always delayed in fast market data.

BC must be thrilled that their soaps are doing so well in the Northeast where there are the big media markets

Too bad it's not doing anything overall for the ratings though, but I guess they take what they can get and spin it how they can........

ABC only cares about the demos and at least they point out to the advertisers that soaps do well in the largest population and wealthiest areas of the country. No small thing.

Local ratings are almost in. I still have some missing data but I'll add to it when I have the time.

I've got some interesting local ratings for soaps. The ratings are for Monday March 2, 2009 in the TOP 5 markets in the country (NY, LA, CHI, PHI, DAL) along with Houston, Indianapolis, Denver, Detroit, Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, The Bay Area, SF-OAK-SJ, St. Louis, and Ft. Myers, Florida. So you'll be able to see how soaps do on the East Coast, Midwest, West Coast, and in the South. Trust me once you see them there's a huge difference in how soaps are watched in each region of the country.

I also have the ratings for MON-THU in the TOP 5 markets that also include Houston, Indianapolis, and Ft. Myers, Florida. Unfortunately I don't have them for the other markets.

One thing you'll notice is how ABC Soaps are watched more on the east coast more than CBS Soaps. CBS Soaps are heavily watched in the south. You'll also notice how after 9am or 10am, the hut levels start going down after most of the people head for work. That means soaps are doing the best they can in low hut level timeslots.

Make note that all Left Coast (West Coast cities LA & BAY AREA) don't include their whole ratings so they may look low b/c their always delayed in fast market data.

Soaps are doing up to par with what other shows are doing in daytime and even a little better.
