From Deliciouly Dee, by way of Spoiler Diva:

And for the BIG RUMOR AROUND THE NET

Joe Mascolo may be killed off over at B&B... this according to SOD July 4th issue.... and rumor has it he will be returning to Salem as our beloved "Stefano DiMera" in September!

And.......what I should have said the last time I did this........take this for what it's worth. It has not been reported at any other soap opera news sites, so please don't take it as fact.

But if true.........BOY that would be great!

YES YES YES YES!!!

This is the only way I can accept the Dimeras back. Now if they write them as they should I would be happy. This would definitely be a big splash for Days and the first big spark from Hogan.

I am surprised B&B may kill him off since they are already killing off one character. I knew he was recurring so I am guessing he was unhappy with that, which does not surprise me, and got in contact with Days. I would think Corday would ask him to take less money at this point though.

Ken Corday better give him whatever the !@#$%^&*] he ask for, and then STFU. That man left the last time because Stefano was written like crap and Corday didn't have the balls (or whatever) to change things around. It's been five years since we last saw The Phoenix, and it's high time he returns to strike fear into the Bardy and Horton families once again.

And enough with trying to take over the world. We'll get to that later.

Oh, and just for me personally:

I DON'T WANT TO SEE BART'S SILLY ASS NOWHERE NEAR STEFANO!!!

If this character is going to be taken seriously again, he needs to return to his underworld/mafia/criminal roots, with a touch of sci-fi (Like turning John back into Roman Brady). If they insist on giving him a comidic sidekick, it will once again trun viewers off. They are just now getting them back with some decent storytelling, so don't, as we heard the EP say, do something that will have people throwing stuff at their tv sets.

I could totally see this happening. Totally. New writer. The glove pulls back, zoom in on Joe's face. The Phoenix flute music. Perfecto. Totally see it!

In fact, I don't even know if I'll be at ALL surprised if it's announced - just happy as hell.

If it's true, he is NOT the Black Hand.

But he's the one behind it. Just like I said in the thread. That man would not do his own dirty work. The real Stefano DiMera keeps his hands clean. You don't know how many people he has on his payroll.

That's true. But it's gotta be him. The reveal wouldn't be the same if it was like Bart or a henchman or something! I want to see Steffy in his black trenchcoat, gloves, that black hat, and those brown shades!

And Mike, he will be. Trust me. But the SD that I grew up on back in the late 70s/early 80s would never be walking around Salem doing stuff like that. Trust me when I say that everyone that is on the show that has been mentioned in that thread has, at one time or another, been the Black Hand.

When the reveal will probably come is when they are all at some huge dinner, set up by him. Then, when everyone is there, one by one, all of them wil walk into the hall, until there is a shot of everyone with shocked looks on their faces. One by one, they will show each main character, until the shot goes from his feet to his face, at which time he will say:

IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Why do they have to ruin the good vibes I am getting about the show by bringing back the DiMera's. I will try to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they will be like they once were, but if it is the campy mess that it was in most of the 90's, then this is a viewer that is going to stop watching.

I was so excited about the show being more traditional as Corday and JER had made it, and to go back to the campiness that was so present with the DiMera's and all is just a big step backwards - no matter who is writing it.

If this is true then for the first time in my history of viewing soaps I will be a one soap watcher - ATWT.

Stefano is nothing like the camp JER wrote.

I'm not duly impressed with the writing right now either. Hope with a self-admitted criminal and adulterous is disgusting to the nth degree. Just getting Stefano back will give us stories that do not especially revolve around careless sex, but have intrigue and INTELLIGENCE as well as sophistocation.

Normally I would agree with you Steve but under Sheffer Stefano and the Dimera's will be written properly. Sheffer respects history and JER did not in this regard which is surprising because he loves the Dimera's yet he ruined them. The Dimera's became too sci-fi and if you ask any Days fan they would say they want Joe Mascolo back. Tony can't come back at this moment but I would like to see him return someday and for them to explain away everything by saying he was Andre. The Dimera's really are a core family at Days so they are important and Stefano is a legendary character and can drive story well if written true to character and history.

Days can still be traditional with Stefano there as long as they leave sci-fi crap out of it and go back to Stefano pre-1999. I knew Sheffer would want this because he used James Stenbeck alot at ATWT-this will be that type of character for him so I am excited about this.

I agree with Roman-leave Bart out of it. I like him but he ruined the essence of Stefano and takes away the intensity of the scene. It becomes too campy. If they go back to the roots of the Dimera's and Stefano, this will be HUGE.

If Stefano comes back DAYS will no doubt surge to number 2 in the ratings. My brother said the only way for him to watch DAYS again was if Stefano returned. Stefano's name only brings back viewers and with Hoagie writing I am ALL for it. Crosses everything imaginable to get the Phoenix back, [!@#$%^&*] just to hear his music again.

Steve, if Steffy does return please just give DAYS a try with him back! You never know, it would suck if you quit watching DAYS.

    • It makes sense that she got a degree in directing. I've always said she should have been a director. I think she works better at the technical aspects of the show. I think her problem is the emotion/heart of a show.  She always guts the heart of the show she's on and she makes decisions that stop longtime viewers from watching a show. I don't think it's sexism to call that out especially as I've said similar things about Conboy. I've called out Rauch for much worse.
    • "Aunt Blanche" first appears toward the end of this episode, about 57 minutes in.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.
