On GL, character of Jonathan kissed Tammy which found out that they were both cousins and it was a huge taboo storyline which spun off a long-term umbrella of stories. Tom Pelphrey was great, can't say enough good things about him. I did recall reading/hearing one of the interviews back in the 2000s that Anthony Geary really admired Tom P and wanted to work with him.

Maybe TG saw something in ND that reminded him of Pelphrey? I don't really see it, but who knows? I am pretty sure Nathan tried out for the Dante role and then the show created Ethan. Dante had a much larger effect on the canvas (especially in that era), so I am not sure if GH succeeded with Ethan if that was the thought process lol. He was always Lucky replacement to me and I think that was what GH was aiming for.

Okay I retire from work in 3 Monday's. Should I pick up GH again???

Congrats on your retirement!!! Despite our complaints here on the thread, I do think most of us agree GH is the most watchable soap on air, so I say yes!

Wasn't the creation of this Ethan character inspired by casting of GL's Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan Randall) who's a phenomenal, tour-de-force actor?

No. It had nothing to do with that. Ethan was just a very obvious replacement on canvas for JJ's Lucky as a similar 'type' and in Luke's life, since the Lucky recast was very different in the 2000s. Ethan was never very similar to Jonathan or Pelphrey.

@carolineg Thank you. It is bitter sweet. After 30 years in Public Education in my state I am looking forward to being able to set my own schedule and do what I want, when I want. However it is also sad because I will miss my special needs kiddos and my dad (who I was looking forward to spending time with when I retired) is in hospice care.

Thanks for the advice on GH. I think I will give it a whirl again.

And GH was probably not taking inspiration from GL in the late 2000's lol. Weren't their rumors TP was going to play someone on GH though? Was it Dante?

I don't remember any but who knows. I do know the story back then was that Guza kept the Dante story on ice for several years, mentioned in background, before he could finally find the right actor. It was very important to him. It's possible Pelphrey could've been in the mix but DZ seems like a very different type.

In the late 2000s, the Peapack years? LOL, NO! 🤣

Yep, I do recall the Dante, thank you for bringing that up.

Tom P would've been AMAZING as Dante, no offense to actor Dominic Z which I adore him immensely.

It honestly could be just a fan rumor I heard. It seems like Guza cast a really wide net for Dante, but found the right actor in DZ. I do recall Kate mentioning Dante long before he appeared so who knows why it switched from Kate to Olivia on that. Megan Ward must have made some people mad backstage lol.

Congrats on your retirement. I hope you enjoy it. 😊

As for GH, it's enjoyable for the most part. There are some issues but it's the one soap I watch regularly and have the most interest in.

The writers need to give Jacinda some bite. She's turned into a weeping willow. At least we know where Willow's old personality went.
