Thanks @Wendy I appreciate your detailed response. So many stories I did not know about. Carrington really was special. Nina Arvesen meanwhile always knew how to make tricky roles work.

I know it's not fair but I never do know why some regimes were so intent on keeping Julia and Mason apart.

Here's one from Y&R: remember when Brad Carlton supposedly met his mother one day at some diner? It seemed like Bill Bell changed his mind and dropped it immediately. Years later, of course, Lynn Marie Latham would pick up the mystery of Brad's past with that hideous Nazi reliquary story.

Did you say reliquary?

I think it had to do with the classic fear that Mason and Julia together would be boring. IMO, however, Mason and Julia probably were one of only two couples on soaps - with ATWT's Tom and Margo being the other - who could be just as interesting married as they would be NOT married.

OLTL had a storyline about Henry Mackler (Jonathan Groff) bringing a gun to school, but they dropped it because of the Virginia Tech shooting.

OLTL was also going to have a plane with, IIRC, Blair on it crash, but rewrote the scenes due to 9/11.

I think they may have actually reshot both some of that and the Henry story. IIRC Blair's plane suffered turbulence, or they filmed scenes with that and the crash.

I think that's what I remember reading - that they changed it to turbulence.

We can fill a graveyard with untold/vetoed by Frons stories from the Malone II era at OLTL in 2003-04. And a few from the Carlivati years at least (like Roxy turning out to be trans and Rex's father, IIRC).

IIRC there was some word of OLTL 2.0 in 2013 planning a very tough cancer story for Bo - maybe testicular cancer. But that was just rumor.

Oh I had forgotten that Roxy rumor.

Weren't there rumors Rex was meant to be gay or bi and seduce Seth?

Yeah. The Dobsons saw Mason/Julia as "star crossed". But they were one of the last gasps of the SB heyday keeping the show going after Cruz and Eden were no more.

I said this in the GL thread a few months back, but IIRC, on AMC, Corinne (Victoria Platt), the voodoo practitioner who helped Julia and Noah when they were in Jamaica, was meant to join them in Pine Valley until someone changed their mind.

This was around the same time AMC fired Robin Mattson and was going to have Julia Barr play both Janet and Brooke (presumably just for that one story) until they reversed course.

That was the intention under Tomlin, yes. And as a result he was very oddly asexual and had weird chemistry with the Seths for most of his first year; they kept Rex's true self very close to the vest. Then Tomlin was fired by Frons and Rex was suddenly fúcking recurring coed bitches Shawna and Mollie two at a time and became much more of an obvious schemer.
