To this day, I'm pissed that DAYS (and Hogan Sheffer) would even attempt to make a Horton a villain. They're Hortons! They can be...conflicted, but they can't have an out-and-out villain in their clan. It'd be like turning a Hughes on ATWT into a villain (which, oops, Hoagy tried that one, too).

Believe it or not, I thought Camille's storyline was one of Megan McTavish's more inspired ideas on AMC (although, given her history, that's probably not saying much, lol). True, the story was convoluted and unpleasant, but I'd seen MMT do worse. Nevertheless, I agree that the casting sunk any chance of that story working at all.

Pretty insane that they did this not once but twice with two members of the very same family, (Jeremy & Nick, actually I think Nick turned out to be much worse than Jeremy).

If it's the one I'm thinking of it is immortalized in my sig (from a post by a Beth Ehlers superfan who raged about our criticism of her).

Indeed, it is that one. I've been on a Guiding Light binge, and the thread popped up. Too funny.

I wish Soaps would stop trying to recreate magic. It didn't work with BE/RPG at AMC and it flopped just as hard with Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans on GH.

This has to be one of the biggest flops in all of daytime! Everything about it went completely wrong and ruined her rep. There's an old school thread around here that had me howling. 😂

They clearly said, "We have Ricky Paull; let's take Beth, too!" Hilariously, she had such vile things to say about JR, and look who stuck with it until the end. She truly did ruin her career.

In regards to Genie Francis and Diana Colville, from what she had said.. the character was supposed to be a one or two day part that was to serve as a red herring for a story that involve Patch. When the show found out that they snagged Genie Francis.. they took the role and expanded it without actually thinking about a character. She mentioned that Days at the time was chemistry based, not plot based... so her first love interest (Mike Horton) and her didn't click so they paired her with John Black. She said her exit was very memorable where she dyed her hair, slicked it back, and snuck out of town (even saying 'see... there was no character.. it was all a facade LOL'

In regards to SJB, her character on Bold & the Beautiful had promise, but the show was dead set on having her be a spoiler to Bridget/Nick instead of pairing her with the actor that was playing Rick Forrester at the time.. who she had chemistry with nor did the show utilize the rival chemistry she had with the actress that played Amber.

Y & R - Adriana Stone (2013) - she was described as a femme fatale that came to Genoa City in order to get her ex boyfriend Noah even though she cheated on him. There was a stolen money caper that was resolved, and she was set up to be a new Nina with Jill thinking she was a scammer and Kay kind of defending her.. and poof, she was let go from the show.

Amanda Browning (2001-2002) - She came on as Mac's mother, and I recall at the time that there was anticipation about her mother coming onto the show because of the way Mac described her. However, she came onto to the show and was a doormat and lacked any sort of presence.. and she was written off within a year.

Carmen Mesta (2006-2007) - A character that came on with various introductions and being pushed as a major character... but she was killed off within a year.

I'm not sure Tony and Pat on OLTL flopped at the time, tbh. But Reinholt nuked his career.

I know they brought the ratings up - I'm not sure if the show stuck to their long-term plans for the pair, but it did seem like Tony's issues hurt more than anything else.

I think it would've gone very differently if not for GR flaming out again.

AW:

Jesse Lawrence (Dondre Whitfield). what a waste of talent as the younger brother in the Lawrence family. Reuben and Ronnie both pushed story in a lot of ways, but Jesse seemed to be in-and-out quickly.

Rose Livingston (Anne Flood, the 2nd actress): Another waste of talent as Rose was brought in for Mac with an estranged daughter (see below) that may or may not have been Mac's. The story was never fully developed and both were dropped fairly quickly.

Sara Montaigne (Missy Hughes). I liked Missy in the role and found her interesting to watch, but the show didn't seem to know what to do with her. She should have been Mac's daughter and could have played the jealous rivalry of (grown up) Amanda. Of course, would they then have brought back Iris or brought on Paulina? Probably not.

Greg Houston: (Christopher Cousins). Briefly dated Nancy and then was killed off. I liked Greg and clearly Chris Cousins later proved what a talent he is.

AW always had a habit of wasting some of the best talent in daytime. Taylor Miller. Sharon Gabet. Denise Alexander. All around this same time.

The previously mentioned Melissa Archer run on DAYS was a big disappointed. As a big MA fan from OLTL, I tried to tune in to watch Serena but just couldn't get into that story at all. The "elephant in the room" that showed how much the story stunk was hard to look past.

Did any version of Taylor Walker ever last or work on DAYS? I remember Natalia Livingston's version getting the most brickbats.

No.

The first one probably lasted the longest.

Speaking of Natalia, Rebecca Shaw was a flop. I liked NEM because it was a fairy tale romance. The chemistry between NL and Tyler Christopher was undeniable. But Emily could be a bit too saccharine. With that said, they were a great GH couple. But I will never understand killing Emily off -- only to bring NL back a year later.

I shouldn't keep picking on AMC, but this one was notorious at the time.

Tamara Braun was clearly so proud with the story she was sold to get her onto AMC as Reese - yet in no time at all, they went from a passionate love story with Bianca to Reese trying to get dicked down by Zach the lesbian converter.

Tamara left as soon as she could, IIRC.

Would Miguel on GH qualify? I think he technically lasted over a year but was off-screen for months before he came back for his exit IIRC.

I think Marshall Kramer on AW lasted over a year as well, but barely appeared before his exit. AW hired Randy Brooks from Y&R with great fanfare to pair with Felicia, but the show chickened out quickly and moved her into a Misery-knockoff storyline.

The character never went anywhere. I would say you may as well count him as he was even talked about in an SOD article at the time of fizzled characters - Riche or Labine claimed he had a strong entrance and then they didn't know what to do with him until the time of the article (I think this was when he was sleeping with Brenda).

Marshall was given a raw deal. He was recast twice and then just stopped appearing.
