Billy Millers ‘Billy Abbott’ just captured the essence of Billy so perfectly for me.. and I don’t even necessarily think he was the best actor, he was just the best at playing Billy. I have lost so much interest in the character since he was recast after BM.

I would agree with Billy Miller as Billy as well. I was annoyed at first cuz I am a David Tom fan (still am) and Billy and Mac was the teen couple that made me fall in love with Y&R as a teen myself. But BM won me completely over.

David Tom was perfect for teen Billy. Billy Miller was perfect for man child Billy that was constantly messing up.

Hard to believe that Jason Thompson has played Billy the longest and next year will be his 10th anniversary.

Christina Bennett Lind as Bianca on AMC, she was pretty well accepted. I often read people saying they liked her Bianca better

I would be one of them. And I didn't even think I would like a recast for Bianca. Love her.

YES!!!! I'm still to this day livid about him being replaced.

Yep.

I can't think of a better recast that was dumped for a worse reason. It was probably a miracle I liked him, given that he was quickly stuck with Rose.

Ah yes... Chompers was quickly accepted as Billy Abbott on Y & R and it didn't hurt that he looked wonderful without a shirt on :)

He had the same essence as David Tom in regards to being his own worst enemy

ATWT

Patricia Bruder replaced Wendy Drew as Ellen after Wendy, an original and popular cast member, left after 4 years. Pat was popular enough to be there decades later.

Those facts also helped. :)

Uhhhhhhh

No? From what I read and saw he was quite popular especially with the FRIZ pairing. People were just a bit mad that Roger had to give up the character of Todd because of that lawsuit thing and had to take another character to stay on the show but overall they accepted him

Nope. Franco (especially Howarth's Franco) was about as popular as syphilis for his first several years, and it never improved that much. People were never here for a heroic serial killer. It was Frank Valentini's passion project but it was hated by the audience, particularly in the first 3-5 years.

Roger's Franco eventually garnered some modest share of fans only because of the rabidly devoted Elizabeth fans who were just happy for her to have a story - any story. But he was only put with her in the first place after several failed pairings, and after FV tried and failed to fire Becky Herbst (not the first). FV put Howarth with her because he knew Liz had a devoted fanbase who would watch her with anyone, and that would make her a safe harbor for a performer he refused to let go of. But the endless rounds of Franco-centric stories during those years remained unpopular with the general audience, until finally ABCD/Disney changed management and ordered FV to kill Franco off. Outside of that modest fanbase the audience shed no tears.

I still don’t fully understand what happened BTS with Franco at the end. It’s never been quite clear to me why they killed him just to have Howarth back back back again as Austin. I’m not saying I wanted Franco on the show or with Liz. But there was more audience support there than with Liz and Finn.

Jesus Christ poor Becky Herbst.

#MeToo, IIRC. Someone at ABC/Disney finally got wind that they had a rape-associated serial killer as a romantic lead on the show at that time and said enough. They also told Frank no when he asked if he could bring back Todd again for the same reason.

That's what Howarth himself should've said when Josh Griffith offered him his current gig on Y&R. I mean, how many times must you play a rapist before you accept that you've been typecast and probably need to leave the business?

I've said it before but I am amazed he took that job given his being very vocal even in recent years about struggling with Todd. Maybe it's because Matt Clark is not going to be a romantic lead, or he just needs to pay some tuition lol.
