Wrong. Lol.  There's actual proof she helped ratings every time.

I don't even like some of the material especially in 2010, but there is no indication it ever hurt the show or even the character of Brenda.

Which is why it is so crazy FV seemingly won't even consider it. Paging @Darn since I know he gets even more heated than me about this!

Listen, I can see an argument where it failed slightly in a creative way.  It wasn't my favorite in 2010, but as far as numbers it didn't fail.  Vanessa is practically the only name GH can bring back at this point to hope for a gain in viewers.  It also gives Sonny, Jason, Carly, Michael, Nina, Ava, Lucy, Lois, etc storyline potential.

But Sidwell's wife is a nice lady and will work for scale and free food! It saves on dressing rooms and parking space!

Well, I am sure Vanessa would want her own parking space! Lol

Firing Sidwell's wife and about 10 other useless people on the show would also free up money and space.

I feel like she only frees up like $6. But yes, agreed, let's fire lots.

$6 dollars is a lot to spend on that "actress", but perhaps she provides her own food and wardrobe.  And her clothing is still somehow 100% better than anything Amanda Setton wears.

I still don't understand how that happened. Just crazy.

To bring back Julie without Doug and have some throwaway talk about this iconic couple divorcing was madness.

I think the show didn't try hard enough. Okay, so Susan didn't want to do love stories without Bill. Fine, write Julie as Salem's version of Auntie Mame. Okay, so Susan's not clicking with the young people she's interacting with. Try, try again -- there were still options for scene and storyline partners, like Bo (and Carly) or Jennifer (and Jack). Without anything that would make Julie interesting, she probably seemed like a redundancy with a canvas that already included Alice, Maggie, Caroline, and Jo Johnson.

Bill Hayes also had that weird 1986 return without SSH where he... became mayor or something? Did they explain why Julie wasn't around for that?

I'd say Cecile's return to AW when she was trying to pass Maggie off as Cass's. Never made sense. Cecile had been such a force of a character and they had dwindled her down to a caricature.

I thought Vanessa's returns both were pretty good, especially the 50th. The first one kind of started to peter out and I disliked the baby (I know Vanessa agrees!), but I thought the stuff with her and Sonny was strong. We'll probably never see or hear from that kid again so it's kind of a shame so much time was spent on it, but alas. I do wish they'd get over whatever the issue is and just commit to working it out with her. They work around everyone else and go to great lengths for other people, so they should try with Vanessa. She'd at least give Sonny, Lois, and Lucy something worthwhile to do and I'd love to see her with Emma.

I don't know that we ever got anything out of Frisco's many returns outside of Georgie and then Felicia finally kicking him to the curb. He's just one of those characters, like mentioned above with Holly, that never translated well to GH once it moved in the 90s. Holly at least works in visits. I don't that Frisco ever has.

The Guza/JFP era was filled with these random vet returns that started off strong and then just fizzled out or ended badly. Rick, Stefan, when Felicia came back after Georgie died, whatever that was with Scott and Laura around 2007/2008. Even looking back, a lot of those Robert and Anna returns sort of sucked until they committed to them when Frank got there.

On OLTL, Gabrielle's return is another one that started fine and then just ended badly.
