Yesterday, I was about to post "Elon. Just so he pops up tomorrow." to be silly and then I decided against it. My jaw when I saw him on today's episode 😃

Hayley crouched over in pain as Randy his helping her out of Uptown, to then do a full 180 degree swivel mostly upright to tell Dani no when Dani had offered to go with her.

ooooh Hayley gets someone to take her to the Emergency Room.  I thought it was Randy, but was it? I'm not sure.   I think he said his name is Sam?

Ashley talks to Naomi about Hayley, then shuts up.  Then says "an anonymous patient" declined the ultrasound, as a way to tell without technically violating HIPAA confidentiality.

I also like that some of the interactions have been in people's residences vs at OJ's or Uptown.

Let's face it, the writers dropped the ball with Hayley by not providing her point of view in the same manner as Bill and Dani.  This leads me to think that the show is leaning toward Bill/Dani as end game and Hayley is just a plot point/obstacle vs an actual character

I'm on the fence with Naomi because the writers haven't really given her any development or POV other then she's the lawyer and was close to Bill/Hayley.   Her marriage to Jacob works because the actors sell it, but the writing doesn't really go there in terms of natural conflict (Jacob's boy scout level need for ethics vs Naomi's somewhat grey shadings).

I've also have said that about the show doing strong Milestones (i.e. Point A, Point B, etc).. but we miss the beats between Point A and Point B in some cases.

I had chalked up the Silk Press Sheila/Ted bombshell being stalled due to the recasting of Ted and allowing the new actor time to put his spin on Ted (which I've noticed in recent episodes that he's playing Ted with a bit more edge).. but the other stories I can't understand why they stall and/or not focused on for many episodes (i.e. Vanessa finding out Doug owes money and that Joey played her with no follow up for many episodes, Martin's secret coming out with little to no mention, etc).

If that's the case, then I won't be surprised if the writers end up phasing out Hayley altogether as a character. I mean, what's even the point of this character? She's just there. She could've been an interesting vixen type character, but she's just boring and dull. I don't even want Bill and Dani back together especially since Bill treated Dani horribly during their marriage, but it's pretty clear that there's still an emotional connection between them. Another reason why the whole Dani/Andre story is moot because what's the point of investing in them if they're not even going to last?

After yesterday I'm also convinced that Andre/Ashley are endgame, which is just as well. Also I've been thinking what is even the point of Andre as a character? I mean, why is he even there? Did Ted even need a nephew at this juncture?

oh wow the Doug/Vanessa conversation today is so good!  Starts out with Doug ranting resentfully. She tells him she's worried for his safety because Joey bugged Doug's car, and Doug is surprised.  Vanessa says she truly cares about Doug, and then ...
Doug's angry façade disappears.  Doug is showing his true heart, and he sincerely cares about and worries about Vanessa.  Deep conversation.

Ha!  it *is* Randy.  But he said his name is "Sammy" at Uptown when he appeared to be a random stranger helping Hayley!   He came back to the Uptown to retrieve Hayley's purse and phone.  Dani said he looked familiar and -- he said "people say that all the time, I have one of those faces".

Later, Doug notices Randy is in town and says wtf are you doing in town? Doug is afraid Joey will have Randy killed.

  • Of course Vanessa is beginning to realise Joey is dangerous... everyone has been warning her, and she has not taken that warning until now? And, sir, Douglas, you are coming off of the hinges far too fast. You need to slow it down.
  • I am beginning to think Elon is a dirtier cop than originally believed... his continued dealings with Joey is very, very interesting to me.
  • Miss Ashley, now all of a sudden, HIPAA is of concern to you? Do not start backtracking now of all times.
  • Of course the child bride would point out Randy of all people at Uptown out of all the wide-eyed, dumbfounded bystanders... awkwardly just gathering around her.
  • HIDE YA KIDS, HIDE YA WIFE!
  • Uh-oh. Jacob caught his daddy in an interesting position with Fairmont's known criminal.
  • Well, someone else finally said it: Hayley is faking her pregnancy and will likely be faking a miscarriage.
  • Good on Dani for doing the right thing and Facetiming Bill!
  • Oh, Goddamn... Jacob is going off on Elon. It is overdue. He is finally seeing his father as the scum he actually is. Good.
  • Wait, Uptown has a side entrance?... was Randy the one that Hayley called the other day?
  • Do it, Jacob! Yes. He walked out on his dad. Good on him.
  • Underneath it all, I can tell that Douglas and Vanessa truly do love each other, and I hope they are able to unite together beyond their vendetta against Joey.
  • Wait... how is Hayley home already?! Oh, she faked it all. And Randy is in on it. Get her Naomi. GET HER GOOD!
  • So now Douglas has a brand-new iPhone as an unemployed doctor? Hmm.
  • Of course she "lost" their baby and turned on those weeping, sad eyes after looking at Naomi with disbelief. BITCH!

Notes:

  • I have noticed that the past few episodes they have been shortening the scenes used pre-opening credits and even post-them. Kind of disappointing, as I enjoyed the longer, more open scenes.
  • Oh, look at them using Assembly Studios as a shoot location. I love that they are able to do this.

It is Randy, he's using a fake name

I forgot to say that Doug seems to have just bought the phone (they made a point of him taking it out of the box) and then he called Randy.  Doug is shocked to hear Randy's phone ring a few feet away, and that's how Doug sees that Randy is back in town.

Okay I think Doug bought the phone as a burner phone so he could contact Randy, especially since Vanessa just told Doug that Joey was bugging Doug's car etc.

Jacob's confrontation with Elon was great today!  Malachi Malik (Elon) was amazing, he really got to show his acting chops.  Lots of nuance/layers in the conversation.

LOL that Hayley is already home on the couch yet says she just had a miscarriage and was discharged already.  Naomi and Bill each arriving separately at the house to ask her what's going on.

If any kind of retooling goes on with this show then I hope part of it includes an upgrade for Malachi Malik. I've had my eye on Mr. Elon for awhile and he has great stature and presence. Great tough guy vibe. No nonsense characters like him are always welcome.
