Monday August 4th US (Friday August 1st Canada)

Cole's funeral is offscreen.  They show the characters gathering at their homes  before and after, but don't show the service.

You may remember that while Cane was distracting everyone in France, he had Holden purchasing properties and companies all over Genoa City, via Cane's shell corporation named "Arabesque".  (Adam and Chelsea figured this out, and then Adam went to France to tell Victor).  In these conversations, it was said that one the properties that Cane purchased was the Genoa City Athletic Club.

Monday August 4th US (Friday August 1st Canada)
Billy and Phyllis meet with Cane in Cane's GCAC hotel suite.
They ask why Cane isn't in the fancier penthouse suite at the GCAC, since he now owns the place. He says the penthouse was already booked and . . .
Cane says this GCAC hotel suite is only for a temporary stay He'll be living on his private train when it gets there. He has an identical train on every continent.

This has been corroborated by other Canadian recappers.

Not a joke!

Entertainment Tonight (ET Online) just did a 9-minute video interview with Billy Flynn on August 1st.
https://www.etonline.com/media/videos/billy-flynn-explains-move-from-days-of-our-lives-to-the-young-the-restless-exclusive

The ET interview is on the train set.  And it's current because Amanda and Phyllis are wearing wardrobe that hasn't aired yet.  Plus, a script cover is shown for something filmed in July that will air in September.  Cane's Genoa City office is on his private train.  REALLY

Cane on a train.

Just when you think Y&R has reached new depths of ridiculousness, they manage to come up with something new.

Who is approving this nonsense??

Will the next big special event involve Lily singing this to Cane?

This show is a boring mess.  But actually, I'm okay with this decision.  Not every character who dies needs an on-screen funeral.  And Cole was a relatively minor character this time around.  I'm not a fan of on-screen funerals on soaps in general.  These days, most soaps just use funerals as time-fillers anyway.  On-screen funerals should be reserved for very major characters and long, long-term legacy characters.  Others might disagree.  That's cool.

Tues. Aug. 5 USA (Mon. Aug. 4 CDN)– Episode #13181 –
"Jill and Billy share a heated exchange."

Jess Walton is list with the noncontract actors in the closing credits
for the episode of Mon. Aug. 4 USA (aired Fri. Aug. 1st Canada).
So that's the noncontract actors for week of Aug. 4-8 USA.

Yay we'll see Jill, and not just learn of an offscreen call with her. But will it be in person or will Jill be on videochat?  They credit the actors whether they appear on the set in person or via videochat.

Will the "heated exchange" actually be about Chance's death?  Or just arguments about Chancellor Industries, Abbott Communications, and Cane Ashby?

Y&R summer preview from Josh Griffith
via Richard Simms for soaps.sheknows
Published Thursday, June 12th, 2025

https://soaps.sheknows.com/gallery/young-restless-summer-preview-2025/claire-kyle-yr-cbs-8/

(This was published in June shortly before the France storyline began with Dumas revealed as Cane, and two weeks before Cole died.)

The spoilers regarding Claire and how she might react to something devastating -- could apply to Cole's death; or maybe learning about what nearly happened with Audra/Kyle in France.
(none of those things had aired when this preview was released)

Posting here only what hasn’t aired yet as of August 1st.
(posting only the spoilers and omitting the commentary)

Dumas storyline impact on the Y&R canvas overall:

  • soaps.sheknows:  the introduction of the much-mentioned Aristotle Dumas. viewers will finally get their first glimpse the week of June 16.
  • Josh Griffithwhat follows will be “massive, like nothing else in daytime.”
  • soaps.sheknows:  by summer’s end, the whole canvas will have been changed forever thanks to the new power player on the scene.

Audra:

  • soaps.sheknows:  Audra hopes <snip> Kyle falling for her, exactly as Victor planned.
  • Griffith: “Remember,” he teases, “Audra is always going to look out for No. 1.”
  • soaps.sheknows:  Audra might want to keep in mind Kyle’s current lady love, Claire

Claire:

  • re Claire, Griffith says: If she went dark again, “wouldn’t that be interesting?”
  • soaps.sheknows:  Claire has other things on her mind, too, especially with dad Cole suffering a health crisis.
  • Griffith: “If something devastating were to happen,” Griffith ponders, “I think the impact on Victoria, and especially Claire, would be massive.”

Devon:

  • Griffith: “Devon is out to protect his family,” .“There is some deep concern on his part that Dumas is not only targeting the Winterses but many players in Genoa City.”
  • soaps.sheknows:  … but he’s not going to shy away from a conflict that could impact so many people that he cares about.
  • Griffith: “[Devon] He’s going to do whatever he can,” Griffith promises, “to protect his father’s legacy and his family.”

Sally:

  • soaps.sheknows:  Don’t expect Sally to take a back seat to anyone… including Billy!
  • Griffith: “They are on very solid ground, but she’s going to stand up for herself in a big way,” Griffith foreshadows. “It’s fantastic!”

Phyllis:

  • Griffith: “Following the trauma that Phyllis suffered after being kidnapped by Laurent, she is more focused than we have seen her in a long time,” submits the scribe. “She’s in a position to achieve what she needs to both romantically and professionally.” “I think it’s time for Phyllis to get a win on both fronts”

Chelsea:

  • Griffith: “Chelsea is at a point where some of that ruthlessness of Adam can rub off on her,” Griffith says, “and some of her old ways can come back, so that they can really work together and cross those lines if they need to, to protect the people they love.”

Michael Fairman interview with Amelia Heinle
July 21, 2025
https://michaelfairmantv.com/the-young-and-the-restless-amelia-heinle-interview-victoria-newman/2025/07/21/

Very long interview about multiple topics:  current storylines, possible future storylines, what it was like to act the scenes when Cole died, working professionally with actress Hayley Erin, Heinle's real-life situation of her house being destroyed by the wildfire in January 2025, and her 20th anniv on Y&R.   (She also says something very funny regarding inappropriate chemistry . . . )
Worth reading the whole thing.

For this spoiler thread:  Quoting here only spoilerish excerpts about Victoria and Claire in the aftermath of Cole’s death

Fairman: What is Victoria feeling now? Will she bounce back quickly?

AMELIA: Oh, she’ll recover! Where’s Nate (Sean Dominic)? No, I’m just kidding. (Laughs). I think, Victoria and Cole had good closure and in the writing as well. There was a couple of episodes where she had to get to say goodbye to the picture a couple times and then be like, “You’re not suffering anymore and you’re in a better place.” I think Victoria’s going to need some time to heal, and then in typical fashion, we’ll find her with someone else in town.

Fairman: Everybody is believing it will be Nate who will pick up the pieces, as you just mentioned.

AMELIA: It might surprise the fans. I don’t know what Josh Griffith (EP and head writer, Y&R) has in mind. Right now, it’s all about Claire and making sure she is getting through it, and being a good mom to the kids.

Fairman: So, you had mentioned that there will be a new man in Victoria’s life, but do you ever get to make suggestions to the powers-that-be, or do you have to just play that into your scenes if you’d like to work with somebody?

AMELIA: That’s a really good question. I don’t ask for anything. It’s not my job.
The other day I had a scene with Jason Thompson (Billy) and I’m like, “Huh, I haven’t had a scene with him in a while!” I mean, we always play love beneath our relationship though, because he’s the father of Victoria’s kids and we’ll always love each other, and I know Jason always plays it too.

Fairman: Do you think if Claire goes off the deep end that Victoria would figure it out and know what’s going on … or do you think she will be in the dark?

AMELIA: I loved when Hayley first came on and she was kind of fooling us all in the office as Claire. I think her personality layered that really well, because Hayley is kind of cut and dry when she talks in real life. It kind of lends itself to that sort of a story. I was disappointed when they started making her so good and, “I love kids.” I’m like, “No! I want you to be bad. You were so good, bad!” It’s more interesting. I hope they go back that direction. I think when they do, Victoria will figure it out, obviously, but it’ll probably take her awhile, because Victoria’s always a day late and a dollar short. But they write that! (Laughs)

Fairman: Victoria’s a shrewd business woman. She can outsmart and maneuver people. However, in her home life, she’s not so much!

AMELIA: Hey, you know what? It’s a lot like real life sometimes. where we meet people that are really good in business and then terrible in their personal life, where you go, “Hey, she’s seriously dating that guy?” However, I would love to see Victoria figure out what is going on with her daughter.

Fairman: If you were to just tease what’s to come for Victoria and where she’s at emotionally in her life, what would you say? Where does she go from here?

AMELIA: Victoria is picking up the pieces and moving on, making sure her daughter’s mentally okay, while a little worried about her. I think Victoria’s focus is clear right now on Claire and her other kids. She’s probably not thinking that far ahead.  I think that she wants to get back to work and focus on ‘Newman.’ Whenever anything gets hard or goes wrong for her in her life, she kind of defaults back to ‘Newman’ and throwing herself into work. So, that’s where you will probably see my character coming up.

Zuleyka Silver interview
by Melodie Aikels for Daytime Confidential
Published July 28, 2025.

Good interview about Audra's character. The full interview is here:
https://daytimeconfidential.com/2025/07/28/yr-zuleyka-silver-interview-kyle-audra-build

(Interview conducted in July when the characters were still airing on the France set.
Not sure if it was done before or after the scenes aired where Kyle and Audra were almost in bed on the train.)

Quoting only the end of the interview.
Zuleyka: "Kyle and Audra are going to continue to build! It's just gonna get to a point where the lines will be very blurred. It's a lot of a lot of fun stuff happening. So, we'll see!"

    • He definitely had it going on back in the day
    • I have long given up on logic and Mayor Laura Collins! It makes about as much sense as Luke being elected mayor over Lee Baldwin in the 80’s, maybe even less sense. She committed manslaughter as a teenager, was involved with a mobster (I guess credit for them taking Smith down), had a shoot out in her home and killed another mobster in self defense, thought she bludgeoned her stepfather to death, then was catatonic for years. Her current husband had a twin that was a serial killer, had his own breakdown that threatened lives, and most recently hid his brother for treatment and that allowed Ryan to escape and kill again. And had hook killer Esme as a houseguest and is raising her child. I don’t care for Sonny anymore but their relationship is just another thing that involves suspension of belief to watch the show. I wish someone on this show would remind these adults that they used to pull way worse stuff than this! I would love a scene where Laura is sitting with Lulu and tells her while she is not happy this is nothing compared to what she got up to when she was young, and maybe even some understanding that she would also do stupid stuff if she believed in the cause. Olivia reminding Dante that he was wild as a teen and this isn’t that. Felicia reminding Anna that they were being shot at when pretty close to Emma’s age. These characterizations are just so basic. Have some fun with the actual history of the show. That kind of wink would mean more to me than just name dropping some random fact.
    • There are no dumb questions here, we've all known each other long enough to fill in information without shaming each other.  We want you to be happy @carolineg.  Your POV as one of the few women here is vital. So, please, I hope you never feel as if any question, idea, or opinion is ever silly or stupid.  Your daily reminders about the realities of manicure and menstrual management has become a part of the personality of this thread. As for Hank, while I'm confident there's a plan in place.  It is frustrating that they announce these casting so far in advance that it is tough as an audience and wait it out until the thing happens.  I'm happy they didn't blow it the second Mike was in town, a week after meeting Liam. So, it is a slow burn.
    • I think his full name is Chadwick.  I remember, back when the previous actor was playing him, someone called him Chadwick a couple of times.  It may have been Stefano.
    • I didn't like those two sleeping together, but I suuure liked seeing BF in them. Wiggle and all. Just sad about the waxing of the chest.   Same.
    • It’s strange. I wonder if the writers at that time had worked with him somewhere else and had a relationship? That time is murky AF to find info on. Rachel Ames in effect left the show at one point in the early 80’s and she is credited like she was there until JFP. Tristan Rogers also took various contract breaks that were not short, and websites also credit him one long stint from 1981-1992. So many people come and go in short succession in 1982-part of 1983. I know they lost a lot of viewers when Genie left, but the show somehow survived yearly at number one through like sheer force of will.
    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
