Honestly I'm not sure we're not there already, or at the very least very near to that point.

As a non-BOLD watcher I do not find that to be true. I must ask. Is this perhaps a BOLD thing?

Partly yes, but Days of Our Lives has also crossed the line into parody many times, with all their coming back from the dead stories, brainwashing, people being possessed by the devil, having microchips in teeth, and do I really have to even mention the Garden of Eden....

No, you make an excellent point but I would've definitely mentioned a little thing called "When Vivian Buried Carly Alive!" & also perhaps Sunset Beach's summer of the turkey baster. However, I don't find those things to actually be worthy of the label parody.

In keeping with ABCNBC###'s line of earlier this morning, Gregory, we are pointing at you.

Britt, what the hell are you doing? You are dead.

Sam, no, you cannot get your job back, why, again you are dead.

These soaps are not called GHOST TOWN. These people who have been given fatal diseases have got to stop it with this coming back [!@#$%^&*]. Do you not know what fatal means?

Do not come at me with "soap dead" NO SUCH THING.

Dead is dead. Very dead, is also dead. Ask John Jagger Cates about being dead, he knows.

Or Cyrus, he is dead also, even though the WSB cleaned up & hid his body. Perhaps hid is not the right word, but really who cares?!!!

Heard this for the last two decades and yet it's never happened

Are soaps dead? No.  However, half their family members kicked the bucket from 2009-2012.

But yeah, the remaining shows + 1 new one have a renewed value in this modern era of television/streaming. It's too bad some of the AMC/OLTL/ATWT/GLer's weren't given the grace to stick it out.

If BTG sticks it out for another re-up (and given this DAYS renewal) I think there is a slim possibility ABC could revisit the old catalog at half-hour intervals in future, though I'm not super expecting it. But they'd have to plan for how to budget it and do it differently for the 2020s, and that means a different format and schedule if they want it to last on streaming. It's not as simple as plopping AMC, OLTL or whatever back on network TV. I think this supposed Lifetime movie deal re: AMC is far more likely.

I do think a heavily revamped GL (or EON) could do well on streaming at Paramount, but that company is nowhere near ready for that kind of venture in their current dire straits.

I think Ron's writing from 2017 to this year did a lot of damage to that effect, but with a smaller audience that remains loyal/stuck in their habit, I don't think it took viewers away. From rubber masks and DID, a schlocky hokey Possession 2.0 to Body & Soul, it was very much camp and a soap parody. But we DAYS fans can always weather the storm.

It would take a Herculean effort for Days to fully pull back from that Reilly-adjacent shenanigans  and tone, and I frankly don't think even the stronger elements of the Higley, Tomlin, etc. years ever did. Any creative team who tried in the last 20 years didn't last long. If the new team can it could be a way forward.

If the AMC movies actually happen, I think it's far more likely a test balloon to see if they can put it back to series somehow. It's like how Peacock clearly toyed with Beyond Salem before pulling the trigger to move Days entirely to streaming.

With the prime time attempt and then the Lifetime movies, it's obvious ABC sees some value in the brand but are unsure how to proceed forward with it.

Yes, Beyond Salem gave them experiences with DAYS people to consider & it also gave them numbers of people who subbed for the 3 episodes. Invaluable intel. And, what amounted to a test run in a potential business relationship. Each side was testing the water with the other. It's really neat that it worked out & how. Especially since morale was challenged because of Alarr but then it got this boost because Peacock wanted them & they wanted Peacock.

After 7 1/2 years of Ron Carlivati, 4 of which where he had Jamey Giddens at his side, we can get through anything 👍😂😂

Yeah... it really is kinda sad that he's gonna hold a record like that 😂

I echo what Maxim has said upthread.
The soaps are dead - creatively.
Gone are the days when they would push the envelope with what could be said and shown on television.
If they keep coasting their existence, well I’ll liken that to the rise of conservatism because there’s nothing more conservative these days than US soaps.
