Totes mcgoats (aka I agree).

But, now the character needs to move forward.  Clyde's exit was 12/11/24.  It is May.  She and Chad have been on one date. I don't think they've slept together. And she was only planning on sticking around for a year.

Uh-oh.

Today just might’ve been the first Paula/Jeanne stinker. I have a feeling whose fault that might be though.

So, Doug III is getting a job at the Pub?

It’s good to see him interact with other characters. I enjoyed his scenes with Roman, even though the talk of Frankie and Max seemed a little random. And it also could be really interesting now that Tate knows. Days really need to start pushing their rivalry again. We need some follow up from the punch. Tying it all to Holly, to Sophia’s pregnancy, to the guys that Doug III owes money to could be good.

But yeah, wayyy too much Leo again in today’s episode. Seriously, has anything changed with this nothing character? I thought it was all Ron’s fault, but maybe Greg Rikaart is (partially) responsible for Leo being so insufferable.

And yeah seriously, Rafe needs to throw all of these people out of his house. Including Gabi

But I do wonder who’s the mysterious voice that Gabi overheard with EJ on the night he was shot. Based on yesterday’s episode, I have a suspicion.

They haven't explained the ownership of the Bistro, but Doug told Holly the other day he didn't get the job there.

Basically Roman just hired Doug on the spot and gave him a room.  It was really nice of Roman.  I don't know if he knows who Doug is or that he stole Julie's necklace.  That was unclear-at least to me.

ETA-I feel like the Bistro might just die and people will just pretend to order food there like Leo did today.  Sophia is on bed rest so no one works there anymore.  They can use that set for something else.

I thought today was still good. Leo is always awful, but the characters treating him like he's a plague feeds my soul. Rafe in particular had been very passive about him, but today was wonderful seeing him put Leo on notice. I really think it's being written that Javi is going to have to eventually take the blinders off and see Leo for who he really is. Them having sex on Gabi's desk made me want to explode.

Roman taking in stray Doug was nice to see. And the mention of Frankie and Max was unexpected, but good to know they're at least being thought of. Tate being petty and a bit vindictive by going back to Sophia's as soon as he saw Doug with Holly was entertaining for me. I think I actually like Tate the most out of all of them because he's so damn messy.

Is Holly about to be kidnapped? Her first time?

Also, Gabi finally revealing what happened with her the night EJ was shot and the clearing of all the other main suspects, but Johnny made this still feel like an important episode. I think Johnny will be cleared soon enough leaving everybody at a loss for the hell shot EJ. How the real shooter will be revealed is going to be interesting.

Speculation: When Kristen finally puts together that her daughter Rachel shot him, she'll agree to frame her mother for the crime, while keeping her hidden away from Salem.

Xander kidnapped her a few times when she was a baby

I much prefer this bitchy version of Rafe to the dull one we have had for the past few years. Leo would get on my last nerve too and I would probably have snapped by now too.

Loved Roman and Doug3. My favourite scenes today. Much better than his forced kindness to Ava.

About time somebody pointed out Sophia is an adult any minute and can decide her own life. This is not Handmaid's Tale. I bet Mrs Choi snatches that baby though if Sophia signs it over to 'strangers'

I mentioned that last week and I am glad Tate and Sophia just realized that today lol.  I think the show is just tying up some of Ron's loose ends.   You would think Brady, Holly or even Marlena would have perhaps pointed out the age thing to Tate at some point.

I am not sure I like this shift in Sophia's characterization though.  MK played Sophia as someone who always defied her mom's rules-she just didn't get caught.  She was openly trying to steal Tate from Holly with no shame, showing up at the Horton cabin in bikinis to seduce him, and blackmailing Holly to work all her shifts at the Bistro.  Once the recast started the show has acted like Sophia's lived in her room, sheltered her entire life lol.

If the shooter is Arnold, I am not going to be happy.

Agreed.  Again, I really like the pace of the mystery.

RonC always wrote a shocking crime, then it would be solved only through exposition at the end.  I feel like the audience is being shown some respect by them carefully closing all the loopholes.  For example, having Shawn-D call Rafe to turn in his gun was a clever device to get Gabi to confess.

As much as I agree with @carolineg about the odd shift in Sophia's character, this plot is starting to make me angry.  A woman is denied an abortion and forced to raise a child?  It is gross.  The stomach pains are a hopeful foreshadowing.  But, if she fakes pregnancy, or hides his miscarriage, I am going to scream!!!

Roman continues to be a mench, but I have to admit that I can never keep track of the difference between Max and Benjy.  I guess it helps that Benjy is dead.  Is Max still related to Carly?

It’s like Days wanted it to be sexy, and failed miserably.

That monstrosity that Leo was wearing didn’t help either

Guess we can add Rafe to the list of characters who’ve gotten improved writing, since the new team started.

Oh yeah, wasn't Max's father the mayor who had been married to Nicole?

I thought Frankie and Max were brothers, but maybe they were adoptive brothers through the Brady's?  Which means Max wasn't a von Leuschner. If so, Max and Benjy are just going to remain one character in my memory bank.  Along with Pocket.

Frankie Donner and Max Becker are no biological relation, but Frankie took care of him as best he could until Shawn and Caroline adopted them both, changing their name to Brady. Max was mute for a time. Frankie is Carly's brother, which was a later retcon in the early 90's that didn't make much sense at the time. Kind of like Sarah being Neil's daughter, which coincidentally happened around the same time.

Anyway, Trent Becker was Max's biological dad. His mom was said to have died. I forget why Trent had abandoned him, but I think he had scenes with Jennifer and Frankie and decided Max was better off with the Brady's and left him in their care without Max seeing him. This was the original story in the 80's. In 2008, he was reformed to be Trent Robbins, played by Roscoe Born. It was revealed he was Nicole's first husband, never previously mentioned, and that Max had a sister Melanie, Trent taught to be a con artist. Melanie obviously turned out to be Daniel and Carly's kid, and Trent was later murdered by Nick, to protect Melanie.

Benjy was a deaf kid that Steve and Kayla ended up befriending. The first of Stefano's retconned children. He left town with his grandfather, Orion Hawk.

Pocket was taken care of briefly by Steve and Kayla. This was in the mid 2000's. He is the biological kid of Philip and Melanie after The Gloved Hand (EJ, and Patrick as his forced henchman) switched the fertilized eggs of Mimi, who was married to Shawn, and Belle, who was then married to Philip. Philip and Mimi ended up letting the baby be adopted. As far as the audience knows, his name is now Tyler Wilkins.

Also, I recall the old analogy Max:Brady as Benjy:Johnson (and I guess Pocket:Kiriakis - but, you know I don't like it when they undermine adoptions by calling the biological carriers the “real parents” on soaps — Tyler has lived with his family for a long time now, he is one of them)

Hmmm...Stefano being Benjy's dad is a whole other thing I suppose.

Pocket would be (most likely) a grown man now.  It could be interesting for Phillip if he showed up.  I totally get what you are saying about soaps and adoption.  The minute someone finds their biological parent the poor adoptive parents are entirely forgotten about.

    • I had hoped they'd pair her with Michael Knight. They had a nice chemistry and he's been one of the better random castings on GH. When it comes to Gio, I found the scenes with Dante to be overdone. It's obvious they're trying to set up conflict for the reveal but I don't think that was needed. It actually made me less excited for the reveal and killed any interest I had in Dante and Gio forming a bond.
    • He also lost the woman he was going to marry, under very sudden circumstances. They are probably surprised Rena has wanted to stay. I think Lois works OK in her current capacity, if they allowed her to have more of a point of view, a bit more life of her own, and not just the reason for Gio's paternity being hidden. The character always felt very thin to me and on paper this dynamic with Tracy, Brook Lyn, Gio, visits from Gloria could be better for her than how overly centered she was on the canvas the first time around. But as of now she could be better used.  Somehow the show that was revived due to supercouples seems completely alien to romance. The older cast has this hardest but even with tiers who are younger or middle-aged, they've really dragged their feet about Liz and Lucky, they have contorted themselves in trying to figure out how to pair a man with Joss, Kai and Trina barely get focus...and others I struggle to remember. They also blew up Sasha/Cody so now I guess we're meant to be waiting to see if she finds true love with Jason? The show is so hesitant and when you are this hesitant it means you are incapable of writing romance.
    • I agree.  Rena doesn't seem to mind the lighter workload and seems happy though. Strangely, a lot of the veteran cast are without viable love interests-Sonny, Nina, Lois, Jason, Tracy, Alexis, Carly (Brennan doesn't count).  The show lacks serious interest in romance.
    • I just can't wait until next week when we can go back to a full weeks worth of episodes. 3 episodes and a mid-week gap has been so difficult to deal with, especially in light of how good the show is.
    • I always hoped they'd change Parker's paternity back to Phillip.  I guess it doesn't matter since Chloe is off the show currently.  I don't recall Holly or Maggie mentioning Parker, so it's not they are close to him.
    • I’ve reached the summer of 1998.  Until now, my impression has been that the show has steadily improved since the great quality dip of 1994, reaching as high as 8/10 in 1997. Sure, I could complain about a few things in 1997 (Claudia got wasted after her initial storyline; Thorne’s feelings for Taylor were a bit too sudden; the storyline where Sheila lived with James and Maggie while pregnant got rather boring; Mike periodically revisiting Sheila despite being on the run from authorities), but overall it was a very strong year.  I liked the Thorne/Taylor/Ridge triangle, the mystery plot about who shot Grant, the sham wedding to trap Sheila, Stephanie/Eric/Lauren, and Clarke manipulating his way back to working at Forrester. I even liked the Greenland storyline with Eric/Lauren/Rush, although I had expected to hate it. Maybe 1996 tops 1997 in raw soapy excitement (especially as Sheila got a chance to interact with a larger canvas of characters), but certain problems with overall storyline cohesion puts it somewhat below 1997 for me. Unfortunately, early 1998 has turned out to be a bit of a speedbump, perhaps on par with 1995 levels of quality: - Maggie’s character really got trashed after James left her to be with Sheila, and the early 1998 storylines where she imprisoned Sheila in the house from Psycho, or installed those wires and mikes and such in her house to make her think she’s going crazy, were total GARBAGE. So much so that the latter storyline (and Maggie with it) pretty much disappeared into a limbo.  - I have mixed feelings about the twins plotline with Lauren. No way did Rush survive being shot with a crossbow through the chest, and the romance between Lauren and Rush’s good twin brother Johnny was rather dry to me. I did however enjoy the camp aspect of Rush taking his brother’s place to be with Lauren, and Eric rescuing her. But it doesn’t appear like Bell cared too much about the Johnny/Lauren romance beyond the twin storyline gimmick, and it too disappeared in an unsatisfactory manner (come on, why not hire Johnny’s actor for just 5 more episodes for an arc where he realizes Lauren is not over Eric, or JUST SOMETHING?) - Clarke wormed his way back to FC in late 1997, which had exciting storytelling potential, but then he disappeared almost entirely. Sad to see my favorite character wasted in this manner. Does he get anything interesting to do between now and the Morgan saga of 2000-2001? - The Thomas saga was entertaining in 1997, but it got stretched out too much, and made some of early 1998 tiresome, with Ridge having to decide YET AGAIN which woman he wants to be with. On the plus side, I like the plotline of Thorne being neighbors with Macy and Grant, and we’ve finally been introduced to the SORASed Rick/Amber/CJ crowd. The Stephanie/James/Sheila triangle is also starting, and it makes me excited (I remember seeing some if it in my childhood). I know Sheila, Grant, and James are all leaving soon, which I honestly kind of dread - between them and Clarke’s near-absence, it feels like herd is going to get culled too much in the near future. But I know there’s the familiar 1999-2002 to look forward to.
    • LOL - this is a perfect description, and that's what I loved about it! May be a bit campy, but it immediately caught my attention in a good way.  I'm not familiar with the Fishing Trip storyline, I'll have to look that up. I've noticed that about Josh, which has made him less attractive to me overall. He just yells a lot when he's not happy. Wow, Reva was married to HB!  LOL - "Always... eventually, and again"
    • I love your ideas. I would love to see Jack grown up this confused unhinged individual. He should hold a grudge against both Brooke and Taylor.

    • Lois's return has been a bust. So disappointing that the writers have never written for her. As with Tracy, the pool of GH vets is so thin, there's no one to pair her with. Doubtful they would go to the trouble of properly recasting a legacy character and then sticking  him with Lois; they're obviously not that invested. If she wants to be on this show, it'll be as a noisy grandma who stays in the background.
