Ugghhh… Paula/Jeanne’s first time writing for Leo.

And just like under Ron, he’s still pointless and unnecessary. I wish Gabi had punched him in the face. With the way his scenes ended, maybe she will tomorrow. And hopefully, somebody behind the scenes reads the room about this character, especially now that Ron is gone. This D level character doesn’t need to be shoved down our throats anymore.  Btw, his shirt was hideous.

But I really appreciate the way that Paulina was written today. Her scenes with Johnny and then with Chanel were the best part of today. I like the way that she comforted him. In some ways, it was similar to his conversation with Marlena. And the advice that she gave Chanel was really good too. She seemed more subtle and a lot more resolved throughout the entire episode, which I think is a very good thing. It seems like the writing has also improved for Paulina, just like it did with Kayla.

Speaking of Kayla, once again she was used more effectively than she previously has. I enjoyed the way that her scenes with newbie Dr. Russell were written.

The cliffhanger was good too, but I still think Johnny is a red herring in all of this.

And yeah, I know that this is a nitpick, but how was EJ able to be a part of the Bachelor auction, and get a date with Cat, if he was half dead in the hospital?

Kayla had a line about "moving the bachelor auction online" on Monday that made me guffaw. It just sounded so cheap and lazy. You mean the 7 people crammed in the Pub bidding on Chad didn't fully save the hospital? They're also acting like Maggie's $1 million donation makes a huge difference, but realistically, that's a dent in the budget of a hospital.

If I had to guess after today it looks like Ari might soon pop up in the teen group in Salem.  She's graduating high school now?  She'd be the same age as Holly, Sophia, and Tate.   I am predicting the show will ditch Sophia and add Ari instead.  But I don't read spoilers.

Tell me I’m not the only one who felt the heat in those Philip/Doug3 scenes? I’m not trying to imply anything untoward — or offend — but let’s be honest: JPL rarely exudes classic romantic leading man energy. And while I loathe the "bisexual con man" trope, Doug3 has far better chemistry with Philip than he ever did with Holly.

I’m easily distracted by little things in scenes. Case in point: after Maggie threw Philip out of the house, she headed straight to visit Julie at the hospital.

  • Who hangs out at a hospital (or their daughter’s workplace) just to chat?
  • Wouldn’t it have made more sense to meet for coffee in the square?
  • And when Maggie reminded Julie of her old shoplifting days, I couldn’t help but think: the old Julie would’ve snapped right back about glass houses and stones.  After all, Maggie's seen her share of time behind bars (and I don't mean Chez Rouge).

As for Sophia — I doubt the actress is very seasoned, but the writing certainly isn’t doing her any favors. A clever girl would never taunt Holly right in front of Tate. She’d wait until they were alone to twist the knife properly.

This also feels like the perfect chance to reset Chanel. The actress is magnetic and at just the right age for a range of storylines, but the character is criminally underwritten. We get no real sense of the impact of her upbringing as a wealthy Black woman. Early Chanel was charmingly spoiled; now she seems defined only by her desire to be a mother. She could evolve — into someone manipulative, driven by anger, or nurturing to a fault — but she needs a few strong traits and motivations to make her truly compelling again.

    • There are two recent unrelated yet simultaneous discussions on the BeyondTheGates thread about Tide and about soccer... and that reminds me of the NFL Tide commercials featuring DAYS.   https://x.com/tide/status/1175944885200916480 https://x.com/tide/status/1177278115879575552   When people replied to the Tide commercial tweets that they love Jarlena and DAYS and Tide, the Tide account tweeted to them that they'd receive a free bottle of Tide autographed by Deidre.

But yes, missing out on choosing your design (I just copied what my mother had, as it truly was the best one).
    • How did EJ end up with the memory card? I kind of wish Johnny were the killer so he could go to jail and come back recast like Gabi. Carson Boatman is an awful actor.

Soapsuds: How do you not get frustrated with the horrible writing you're getting from Brad? How do you feel about your character pining for a man who continually cheats on you and has treated you like trash?
    • I don't think a Victor Kiriakis Charitable Trust is as bad as the Sonny Corinthos Stone Cates Charitable Trust that funds most of Port Charles lol I totally had a mind lapse when I said Maggie Horton.  That's just what I think of her as.  She definitely uses Kiriakis as a last name.

@Errol Do you know when the episode originally aired?
    • I think they were going with a Hope recast as they mentioned a "change of character" which I can only assume meant stronger. I think ER even by that time had..uh, not the soap look and I think a Hope who went to New York and started her own business needed a recast with a strong actress who could play a character taking on Alan (so weird that Bert's death was the perfect time of Hope to come home, maybe move into "Grandma's" old house.) But GL just made every slip it could during that time. That's why JFP got rid of Maureen with the excuse she was boring, as she was a soap rarity, a stay at home Mom (even Kim Hughes had a glam job) that harkened back to the Bert Bauer/Alice Horton/Nancy Hughes days. The focus group would obvisously find her boring as they weren't aware of the context of her role and just watching her serve coffee and be a should to cry on..well, soap audiences were already dumbed down and wanted clones and possessions.  Funny thing is that I only started to like post resurrection Reva when they made her more support..bouncing in between different characters and timing things together without a huge story(I will forget her miracle baby and foisting Brad Cole on her) If GL was around today Kimmer would have been the Bert Bauer of the show (which was also funny as she bitched that they were trying to turn her into that in 97, but it was more soccer mom (which never suited Reva) then earthy woman who had lived a full life they could have made her later.
    • I just do  not care. Peacock has spoiled me in a way that I love being spoiled. Why? No preemptions, ever, for any show, so DAYS is never preempted. And guess what? I LOVE IT! You can put away your charts & graphs proving that there is an audience for soccer in the middle of the week. Great. Good for them. As for me, I want my soap. And, I don't care who likes soccer. Today I am NOT watching BTG & that is where my point starts & also ends. If you don't mind, bully for you. I do mind. Now this is the end of my rant.
    • @Liberty City  And it’s a shame that kids today — like Tate — can have a child, yet never know the simple pleasure of opening their first box of personalized che(ques), complete with a custom design if you were feeling especially fancy. Also — side note — it is rather amusing to imagine a Victor Kiriakis Charitable Trust. It would be like having a Pablo Escobar Charitable Trust. I always assumed they used the name Titan because Victor’s marketing team wisely advised him to avoid associating anything public-facing with the Kiriakis name, given its unpleasant connections to drugs and kidnapping schemes. Which is why I wouldn’t blame Maggie if she still preferred to be known as Maggie Horton.
