Billy Flynn, Chad DiMera, Days of our Lives,

Although he just recently celebrated his 10th anniversary as Chad DiMera on “Days of our Lives,” actor Billy Flynn is exiting Salem and is heading to Genoa City later this spring when he joins the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in a newly created role.

In an interview with TV Insider, which first reported the news, Flynn said, “I am grateful for my years at ‘DAYS’; it changed my life in the best ways.” He adds, “I’ve always said these stories we tell are like doing a play, and I’ve spent the last 10-plus years playing this amazing character and telling one of the all-time great love stories. And now I’m excited for this opportunity and to test myself in a new way.”

Flynn first appeared on “Days of our Lives” in the September 12, 2014 episode, replacing Casey Deidrick in the role, and quickly became a fan favorite as one half of the popular Chad and Abby pairing, dubbed “Chabby” by their fans. By 2019, the couple was featured in an online companion series, “Days of our Lives: Chad & Abby in Paris,” which helped expand storylines encompassing the adventures of some of the show’s most popular characters.

Flynn received his first-ever Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 2017 in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for his portrayal. He went on to receive two additional nominations in the same category in 2019 and 2023.

In 2021, he was a featured performer in both “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” (Chapter One), a limited series spinoff of the mothership series that aired on Peacock, and the Christmas movie “Days  of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas,” also released on Peacock. The projects later proved successful, with the main show moved to Peacock exclusively starting in September 2022.

More recently, Flynn made a memorable appearance in an episode of the hit CBS drama "Matlock," playing Atticus Waverly, an employee at a tech startup that had its trade secrets stolen.

“We support Billy as an actor and friend, and wish him nothing but continued success and happiness, personally and professionally,” said "Days of our Lives" executive producer Ken Corday. “He will certainly be missed in Salem.”

In a statement, “The Young and the Restless” executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith said, “On behalf of the entire company of ‘The Young and the Restless,’ we look forward to welcoming Billy to the show.” He noted, “He will be a wonderful addition to ‘Y&R’s stellar cast.”

Despite joining daytime's most popular soap opera, fans of "Days of our Lives" can expect to continue seeing Flynn in Salem for a bit longer due to the show's advanced tape-to-air schedule, currently set at nine months, which means he'll appear on the show well into 2026.

Colour me shocked; considering Billy Flynn was at the 60th anniversary shoot recently, this feels like a very recent development. Having worked for Josh Griffith isn't that big of a flex as Flynn may think it is. Hoping all the best for him! He's better than Chad DiMera, and I hope he is able to get that at Y&R.

    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
