Keith Robinson was already on-set for the premiere week, so clearly Johnson knew he was gone weeks or months ago.

New viewers will get over it. It's the same old surprise as virtually any soap recast. If they were to recast one of the core four (or Kat!) then I'd get upset.

I don’t assume the climax of Eva/Leslie is going to happen before the recast. They should’ve let the original actor play out the rest of the story IMO

Yeah I follow him. If he knew and still promoting the show he's incredibly professional and I wish him the best moving forward.

GH: March 2026 Discussion Thread

Yeah, I agree Frank does tributes quite well and does value his vets a lot more than JFP did. I would still say GH is the most watchable soap on air, although I don't watch Beyond the Gates. Things could absolutely be worse, but I think the show has the ability to be so much better with its cast and characters.
Guza's writing team would probably be better than the man himself. He would immediately move Carly, Jason, and Sonny front and center (if Steve returns). Guza just had the ability to keep things exciting. Sure, there were plenty of errors, but sweeps rarely disappointed. In the end I don't think Guza was a bad writer and had great ideas-I think he got burnt out and overstayed his welcome.
I know Frank is great with the budget, but I have to believe a new EP could cull the cast, still keep the same look and be in line monetarily. It's more depressing to me to think FV probably has this job until he wants to leave because certain characters will never be back, certain couples will never get back together, and certain characters will always be favored. Plus 10 more babies will be born lol. It's the same predictable cycle year after year.

I would take the Guza writing team back by a mile. Not necessarily the Gooz himself.
I am not sure GH can survive in the current era without FV's budget wizardry tbqh. I would like to hope someone else is out there who can do the job and also be favored by most of the cast. I think he has done wonders for tributes to the elder and deceased cast, and I don't think that can be overstated given past mistakes from the JFP years. I think there are many things he does well. I agree many other elements are stale and risk-less. It took a network mandate to bring in a writer who shook up the show with what ultimately led to its current hottest story, and that was someone who clearly did not get along at FV's GH and was quickly excised.
So I also think I would prefer new (or at least different) blood if possible. And if that's not possible, then at least let Frank stop horning in on the stories and favored characters so much.

That's just it. He shouldn't have been "the villain." He should have functioned on the canvas more like Victor Newman does on Y&R.
Victor started out as a really bad guy (i.e. imprisoning and feeding a rat to his wife's lover) but he eventually evolved into the show's patriarchal figure with the gray morals who stirs the pot now and then. Alan definitely could have become something like that, though IMO a Bauer should have been the patriarch.

That's a really good way of describing his performance as Alan. I think the word "urbane" also fits. He gave Alan a patrician air (Bev did this with Alex, as well). It's like they were psuedo European aristocrats while still being very American when their ruthless sides came out. Either Raines never picked up on that or it was beyond his acting range.
When I read Bev wanted Daniel Davis to play Alan, at first I thought, no way, the butler from The Nanny? But then I watched some episodes of Texas where he played Elliot Carrington. He gave Elliot that same urbane air. Even though he was not anything like Bernau physically, I do think he could have pulled it off.

It was probably smart of Carl Tye to not come back-I think “adult” AM became Rick and they’re very different actors and would likely have faced blowback. I’ve seen a fair number of 1989/90 episodes with him and I think he’s good, but it would’ve been a thankless thing coming back.
Going back to Alan/RR, I do think that it’s just hard to keep a more villainous character going that long without it getting stale especially where the plot relies so heavily on continually screwing over family members.

That's fair. I am not necessarily advocating for her return lol. I tend to romanticize Guza/JFP's era, but I remember hating most of it at the time. I would still probably take Guza back and certainly Wendy Riche although I doubt either is looking for a long-term job at their ages.
GH is certainly very watchable still, but I think I despise Frank's run more than JFP's. They both are bad, but it seems Frank gets praised for his stale work. To me, GH gets by with being under budget and keeping the status quo going. No risks are taken at all. And while it seems like Frank is probably a nicer guy to work for he still hires his buddies as often as JFP did.

Another World Discussion Thread

As @Tisy-Lish acknowledged, there were three other actresses who played Susan before Milgrim.
Fran Sharon (who is best known for playing Cookie Pollack on The Edge of Night) was first. I thought she was okay, but she came and went very quickly.
The second Susan was an actress named Roni Dengel. I don't remember much about her, and she also disappeared in the blink of an eye. IIRC, both Sharon and Dengel stayed on the show for about a month or two each in 1964 before being fired. I think Irna Phillips must not have been thrilled with them.
The character was off the canvas for about five years before being recast again with Lisa Cameron in 1969. This was my favorite Susan. She was in the role for about 2.5 years before leaving Bay City. I found Cameron likeable, and it certainly helped that she stuck around long enough for the audience to get to know and warm up to her.
When I think of Susan, it's Lisa Cameron who comes to mind.
