I made a new topic for these since they address all of the CBS soaps, with some coverage of ABC and NBC soaps. I am slowly but surely scanning and archiving all of my old issues of CBS Soaps in Depth. You can see the embedded issues below. As you browse them I suggest clicking "one page view."

Thanks.

That Lauralee cover is a horrible fashion flashback.

Trying to remember if they had many ATWT or GL covers. Likely not.

I remember SOD was asked why they didn't have more GL covers and the answer was that they did not sell.

They did not do a lot of ATWT or GL covers but we will get to some eventually. Even a B&B cover was a rarity compared to the Y&R covers. Eric Braeden must have been a big seller because he was on the cover constantly.

I used to roll my eyes at the Victor adoration from the show after Bill Bell pulled back, but I do see now just how enduring his appeal is to a lot of people. Even now the only time I hear some people talk about Y&R is if it's to talk about Victor, as shown again with the devastating wildfires.

I had a saved a few SID covers when they did. Interestingly they did one for the Jessica/Marshall/Bonnie mess, as disgusting as that story was!

PS @Alan Thank you for sharing!!

Thanks. That whole story did get a lot of attention. I found Marshall to be repulsive but he did have a fan base, which made the rapid write out of him all the stranger.

You’re welcome. Yeah despite the messiness of that along with the stories ATWT for better or for wise definitely got a lot of attention during that time and had ratings gains at a time when other soaps really faltered. I recall it spent much of summer and fall of 2003 sometimes as high as #3 in the weekly ratings.

Here’s a few more ATWT & GL covers, all complete with the tawdry/trashy “change forever!” line they used on everything LOL

That reminds me, Lauralee Bell was covered exhaustively by SID back in the day, even when she wasn't on the show. It always puzzled me since Cricket never seemed that popular among fans.

Thank you @Alan! There's lots of great nuggets in these mags, like Doug Davidson saying that Anthony Edwards played Patty's boyfriend Jeff on YR for a few eps in spring '81

SOD got to the point for a while where subscribers got a different cover. That's how I got a Jack/Carly cover once.

Can't blame ATWT/GL fans for not buying a mag that for years had barely covered their shows anyway. You'd get half a page combined for ATWT/GL, meanwhile there'd be three interviews with DAYS stars about their latest burp.
