I

I agree. MM has been for the most part better since his return. But he still has his moments as I sit here and play catch-up. And he definitely gets on fire when he's with AL and ZS.

Well I am only ahead because I fell sick and had time. And lord has it been a chore. Ugh. Again. Happy for your oncoming break though.

Well if JG is going to do anything, it is going to be be sure that the Abbotts are featured. For good or for bad.

I'll give credit where credit is due. It is a good idea to deal with the aftereffects of Jack and Diane's schemes. But I have always been annoyed at how the start of Kyle/Diane mess because it was sooooo contrived. And now here comes Kyle feeling a way because Diane has not moved out of the office yet. BOY, BYE. I was like Diane. It felt like they were right back to where they started.

We know I could care less about Billy so whatever with his scenes with Jack. I did like the use of the Abbott dining room with Jack and Traci and their talk. And those Dina flashbacks were EVERYTHING. I teared up. It made me wonder if I will ever sit down and watch the Dina death scenes given how triggered they would make me given my own relationship with my mother. But still...good scenes.

Can I just say that I love HK's auburn hair?

Esther and Diane? Unexpected. But I do love the increased use of Esther as of late. And this was a frest take.

And Audra/Sally will always be love.

I've been meaning to comment on this.

For me, it is too early to tell. I definitely feel there has been a shift. MTS already had an immediate upgrade before the new designer showed up. And that has definitely gone warp speed. I don't think Nikki has had anything on that I haven't loved. She's turned into such a clotheshorse.

I feel people are now dressing more for what the weather should be in Genoa City. Outside of Phyllis of course. But even she's been dressing strong.

It has just been little things though that has gotten my interest. Sharon FINALLY with something different done to her hair. Or Nick in the short sleeve winter-y shirt which I felt was unusual for him. Different, but not bad.

Oh my God yes. I did not get to see a lot of Marla Adams's run as Dina...I only got to see the full scene of her first appearing to John a few months ago...but she always had me spellbound when I saw her. I wished they could have kept her and Dina could have been that grande dame that Katherine used to be.

Those flashbacks of her and Jack were so well done. And it told such a tale. And when she turned to Jack and told him the story behind the ornament to show she remembered it like he did...just *sighs* Just well done.

FINALLY!!!

I'm talking about Sharon's session with Alan. So...not only was Heather STILL alive before Sharon blacked out, but Sharon remembered a REAL hand on her shoulder. And the attack/murder happened as Sharon was blacking out on the couch. So yay for Sharon NOT killing Heather. And now she has that heroine fire in her. GOOD.

And Nate's brother has officially been found. I was happy to hear it. And I guess it was nice to play the beat of Amy not being sure if she wanted to go. Still...I was annoyed that it felt like they were dragging it out though. I almost thought that Amy might be setting up Nate for something because why would she not go with him on the plane since she would be the only person Nate's brother would recognize.

Giggly Heffa can stay a C plot. lol. Happy to see Daniel though.

This episode had meat to it, and it felt like momentum MIGHT be about to pick up again.

Side-note...another hairstyle for SC and she was looking pure heroine.

    • Opal having siblings could add to the story. However, it raises questions about Tad's adoption. Why were the Martins allowed to adopt him if Tad had aunts or uncles who could have cared for him?  Logic limited the number of possible Gardner's (and whatever Opal's maiden name was).     Which is still not an excuse for Tad's evil doppelgänger Ted.
    • And if I remember correctly, at one point, they were considering having Linda Thorson play Opal's sister.
    • Interesting. Makes me wonder how the day to day looked for Secret Storm at this point in the run. This seems very to deal with the psychological aspect, I guess the "inner storm", and the music is almost sinister. If this is from 1974 there's not much room for dates it could've been from as it ended on February 8th.  It's hard to tell from an edit featuring just one storyline, but if this was the day to day it might've been heavy for the casual viewers.   ETA: Stephanie Braxton is credited to have appeared as Laurie from 1970-1973. David Gale is credited only in 1973 and Alexander Scourby from 1972-1973. I know IMDB isn't always right, but I'd say this is likely 1973 - I'm guessing all these characters exited before 1974 and this might be a part of their final storyline.
    • Well, they were both involved with Ray Gardner.  Then, the actress left in 1980, only to return as a somewhat broader interpretation of the character after Dottie was SORASed.  By that time, Opal had left in 1983.  So, while they serve the same story function,(verbally abusive/neglectful mothers who make you feel sorry for their daughters), one could argue that Edna was the carbon copy.
    • Okay, now it's my turn to ask about the Thorntons, namely Edna. Did she and Opal have any scenes together? I ask because I was familiar with Opal first, so when I found out about Edna, my biased mind saw her as the first try for that type of character.
    • There is no dispute that Jill Farren Phelps had a successful career in daytime based on longevity, but that does not preclude discussion and dislike of her decisions at various shows. Sure there may have been some misogyny involved BITD(we don't know as I don't recall JFP ever mentioning that) but the head of CBS Daytime at that point was a woman and there were other women involved BTS. I think that so long as an EP could deliver, or at least talk a good game they would be respected.
    • It surprises/disappoints me too that GL's ratings during '89-'93 don't reflect the quality of the show. But when I call it great soap, I'm not defining that by ratings either.  I'm probably in the minority, but I think Reilly takes something intangible with him when he goes. There's a sense of humor that just disappears in '93.
    • Ok, I know nothing about Another World except their catchy intro song from long ago, but this makes me want to catch!  That crazy mother keeping her son's girlfriend or wife hostage, wow!
    • And maybe Hotel could have been placed at 9pm Tues instead of Paper Dolls. Not that I thing it was a surefire thing but at least viewers were familiar with the show and it might have done better than PD. ABC's line up was pretty threadbare at that point. And with a big guest star to launch the season - Elizabeth Taylor- the numbers would have been there initially.
