The problem is 'new' people coming in, especially those without experience in daytime, is going to be just as much of a risk as re-hiring the old guard, because they don't understand how things run and they are not taught things in the way they used to be with the likes of William J. Bell, Agnes Nixon, etc. I don't deny that Jill's history speaks for itself. I've always said she has made some questionable decisions, but at the same time, I've also said she runs with a business mindset, not a creative one. I've always held that perspective where Jill is concerned. And that comes with positives and negatives. But I also cannot sit and say she produces a boring show (I'm not saying you are saying that), but if I were comparing Frank to Jill, it's going to be Jill I'd go with. Budget be damned. Yes, she may have produced a show overbudget, but we never suffered visually from it.
We can applaud Frank for the set changes he has made, but that can only go so damn far. Sets cannot carry the show visually. Everyone continues to mention Genie and Jill, but Genie has always spoken highly of Jill, and I feel that Jill has done the same regarding Genie.
