OK, you know I hate guns, but at least this time they included the detail that a citizen of Salem didn't travel internationally while armed.  Now, how Mark got to Paris so quickly after just running the DNA test for Steve a few hours earlier, is anyone's guess.  And how many flights go from Salem to Paris, if Steve and Mark were on separate planes (this sounds like an algebra question)?

Also, why is Sofia at work while Tate and Aaron are at school?

Finally, I'm glad Steve wasn't shot twice in one year.

It is also a bit bizarre that of all the people who have been suspicious, Chad only called out F-Abby once Holly brought it up.

To be fair, I guess JJ added some credence.

But, when the woman's own mother has doubts, and you go all the way to Paris to marry her, until a 16-year-old notes their uncertainty, you have to question your judgement.

BTW, I guess the architect of Horton Square drew inspo from Paris, because they are virtually indistinguishable.

What a complete waste of time this all was, despite today actually being pretty good. Everyone involved in this NotAbigail storyline deserved so much better than this. And all because Ron Carlivati can’t get over his burning hatred for Abigail. Hell, is that hatred also the reason why Bill and Laura were killed off so senselessly? And why Jack and Jennifer were banished to Boston?

And the fact that this is now all tied to the worst strike storyline makes me even less interested in it all. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about this from Billy Flynn or somebody.

Kristen was still pointless in the Sarah’s paralysis storyline. Plus, I’d much rather Dimera go belly up than Titan.

I did like the Brady/Sarah scene though. I’m glad that they talked everything out. Hopefully, Sarah lying isn’t dropped completely. That could lead to good conflict for her and Xander.

I feel like Konstantin and Victor's plane crash were established before the strike.  The scabs just prolonged Konnie and Theresa's plotting, and then RonC wrote the resolution.  However, I think this would've been more salient of a plot had the strike not occurred and F-abby was introduced nine months ago.

Maybe, F-Abby should've been tied to Doug's death, the puzzle box, and the fire at the Horton house? In order to refocus on the core family.

Also, John Black being missing is a key detail that dooms this plot.  It feels weird that Victor's death has instigated so many stories, when Stefano's death was not as impactful.  And with the loss of Doug (and John) coming up so soon, there's a lot of focus on passing.

I thought today's show was decent.  I honestly get a little depressed hearing about John being on vacation and tying this Katarina story into the Greene siblings/FAbby plot.   The audience would be happy to forget the entire Kostantin/Katarina saga and I question Ron for bringing it back when it was probably clear Drake would not be able to finish the story out.  It makes me dread the next several months of vague John mentions.

I thought the Sarah/Brady scenes were nice as well.

I also liked the Kayla/Marlena scenes.  Days doesn't do friendships well, but it's nice for two long time friends to just chat and catch up.

I really just want Kristen gone.   Why is she so awful?  Just give Sarah the medicine after all you did to her!!

As far as the Fabby stuff.   BF and ALM did a good job?  It was pretty anti-climatic to me.

The Konstantin storyline started under Ron but the whole John “killed” Konstantin’s daughter arc was from the strike writers.

I didn’t like how it rewrote history. And how it gave Konstantin more to do.

But I agree, how did they think they could tell this story without Drake/John?

It just seems tacky to me to bring John back into this.  While I am sure everyone was hoping for the very best for him if Drake couldn't film there was no need to bring this Catharina (I was spelling it wrong before lol) stuff back up.  It was basically over and done.  And now we are going to have Marlena and other characters pretend like John is off doing something and living his best life with his dad when it's clear everyone knew he was ill just really puts me off.  There's a difference between Doug playing cards upstairs and John being off screen involved in a major story.

Optimistically, it could allow Brady to mature a bit and pinch hit for John.

I'd like to see Brady smarten up, and pairing him with Steve could be interesting.

I differ from @carolineg in that I think friendships are one of RonC's writing strengths.  Jada & Stephanie, Chad & Stefan, and Brady & Eric are all entertaining when they play them as friends.  Mostly because they are not just sounding boards, but they also ground them, and make them explain their motives.  I just wish they'd remember Kate's bond with Kayla and Marlena from their adventure together.

Jada/Stephanie are fine.  I like that friendship.  Chad/Stefan and Brady/Eric are siblings so I consider that a bit different.  There are so many characters on the show with long term connections that hardly interact.  Johnny, Chanel, EJ, Gabi, Xander, Sarah etc all exist with zero friends.  They are friendly with some people but there aren't real connections there.

Friendships were certainly explored more during the strike.  And familiar friends have a long history in Salem, including Jen and Hope.

I recall Alex and Chad had a nice rapprochement when Alex played ball with Thomas.

Chad and Everett, and even Leo, had some pleasant scenes at the newspaper.

And the development of Xander and Chloe from friends to lovers was entertaining.

Also, I love the bonds between Chad & Julie, and Xander & Maggie.

But, I agree, Sarah and Gabi have no female friendships.  For example, I wonder why Gabi and Chanel don't share more scenes, as they seem well suited as friends.  I blame the production model.  While it doesn't bother me that they film a decade in advance. (

)  The fact that they seem to block film similar scenes partners often means that we don't get a lot of interactions between stories.

Also, did Marlena say that John went to Greece or Italy to lay flowers of Catarina's grave?  I thought he went to Greece, but the synopsis says Italy.

Stefan raped Chad's wife, I don't see how they can be considered a good example of friendship. If anything the fact that they're so chummy shows once more how much of misogynistic pig Ron is.

At least Chad and EJ, despite their up and down, make sense as brothers who are close.

I have liked some of the recent friendships on Days. But they really seemed to have forgotten a lot of them.

Tate/Aaron, Jack/Xander, Lani/Kristen, Bonnie/Sarah. Even Gwen/Leo in some ways (which made breaking them up even more gross and disgusting then it already was

)

I do agree though that Johnny and Chanel each need a friend.

Gabi is sort of like the Carly Spencer of Days. She hates other women, so I can see why she has no friends

And EJ’s too much of a mama’s boy to have friends

    • That’s one of the things I’ve liked since the new writers came in; more interactions between characters that they hadn’t really had scenes with
    • Such a missed opportunity…
    • Loved Valerie Mahaffey as crazy as a box of frogs Sandy Cooper on Wings. 2025 needs to chill out already. May Ms. Mahaffey rest in peace.
    • She was great on there. And Wings. And so many shows. I don't feel like we get those character actors as much now.
    • Cady did have a southern accent as Dixie in her first few years playing the character... but it started to minimize the longer she played the character (which tracks because my aunt had a heavy southern accent when married my uncle and years living in the north has softened it quite a bit). Her initial stint playing Rosanna was partly due to mirroring the previous actress and eventually developing her own take on the character. And the thing about her take as Kelly on Y & R was that she was too sedate when she first took over playing the role (she was supposed to play a woman that had recently lost her child.. and trying to keep things together) and then went OTT crazy and didn't play it well.    And I don't care to remember her attempt at playing Jennifer on Days. I think this Pamela character is the first time she's playing a character from the start and I think she's like a kid at a candy store.  She's having so much fun trying different things... and I hope eventually she decides to settle on a more consistent character for Pamela (perhaps her love of accents is a character trait based on something traumatic that happened to her in the past maybe).
    • That's sad. I remember her mostly from ER and the shortlived, yet very funny, sitcom The Powers That Be.
    • As always loved seeing Ric with Liz. I hope the show forever keeps them in each others orbit even if it’s just platonic. I’m sure she’s going to cut him out when she finds out he’s blackmailing Alexis though. So darn.
    • I have to be honest I’m really struggling with this show. I love everything with Eva/Leslie/Ted/Nicole/Kat and enjoy Dani and Bill’s shenanigans (I’m on the Hayley needs to be recast train now tho), Chelsea is second to Kat as my favorite Dupree grandkid and I loved her coming out to her mom. The show was on a truly great run with the big Leslie and Eva reveal at Nicole and Ted’s anniversary party and the fall out has still been good even with the unnecessary Ted recast and them making Leslie kind of dumb by exposing herself too much unnecessarily. The real problem for me started when they rotated back to way too damn much screen time for Derek/Ashley/Andre (if anyone should have been up first for a recast it was these three IMO). They tried way too hard to drum up drama between Ashley and Derek and the actors were clearly fighting for their mediocre charisma less acting lives to make it work but none of it landed, just horrible. Naomi and Jacob and this weird homeless woman story are also BORING. I can see where its potentially going but IDGAF at all, my only hope for them is that they’re building a triangle with Naomi/Jacob/Kat because Jacob and Kat have stronger chemistry together than their current love interests (Eva is the only one who can make the awful Tomas work). Martin, his secret and still cringe worthy acting got kind of interesting with Bill dropping hints to Smitty but they completely lost me with that lil fakeout scene at the country club. The lame “teenagers” (air quotes because Samantha is no Bianca Lawson and never beating the black Andrea Zuckerman allegations) can get off my screen as well. Joey creeping on Vanessa is grossing me out at this point, I actually quite like Vanessa and Doug now but Joey falls totally flat as a villain and someone we’re supposed to buy Vanessa being enamored with. I’m glad they’ve finally set up something interesting for Vernon and Anita to do with this girl band reunion instead of Anita wringing her hands and telling us she feels darkness coming and Vernon giving a civil rights speech every episode but yeah… People who’ve posted with me for other shows know I’m not one for fast forwarding or hate watching either, if I find a majority of a show is not working I usually just quit but because of what this show represents for me as a Black male soap fan I really want to stick it out. Its just become a challenge lately. I saw Guza has left the building and I REALLY hope we hear about some more BTS changes. The additions of Tracy Thompson and Jamie Giddens don’t exactly inspire a lot of confidence from me tho. Honestly praying hard for a new EP to replace JHC, a lot of the stuff that annoyed about her PC and AMC runs has started to match up here. I’m giving the show through the Summer to rectify some things but IDK how long I can hold on tbh. Its been a struggle to even finish some of these episodes lately.
    • I agree. I liked the episode but it felt jarring to suddenly return to a bunch of plots that had been put on pause since the Nurses' Ball started. Although I did like Laura popping in at the end to tell Alexis that millions of dollars have suddenly disappeared from Ace's trust fund. One set of scenes that made me feel optimistic for the next few months were between Sofia Mattsson and Rory Gibson. While Rory has been good as a darker, colder Michael this week, I was worried that he might not have much range. But he really warmed up with Mattsson, and I thought that (for the first time) Michael and Sasha had some genuine chemistry.
    • Next week is going to be such a sad time... I just feel it based on what was shown today. I'm wondering if the whole John being bandaged thing being a throwback to how he first arrived on the show was a Ron C idea since it just seems as though this would be something he would come up with.  If so, it's good that Cwikly/Ford are in charge with the implementing of the idea instead of him. Just a delayed thought from the Ciara scenes earlier in the week, or last week.. and how she had an odd way of dressing/acting.  I chuckle because little Ciara did say that she admired and wanted to be just like Kristen when she grew up.  So the fact that her outfit choices are so odd/off beat and her manner is a bit OTT just fits.. especially since Eileen's Kristen had an odd sense of fashion and that frantic OTT undertone to her delivery. With that said, a part of me wonders how Eileen's Kristen would have handled the scenes being done this week in regards to John's situation.
