That's one of the reasons I grew to detest Luke - the queasy and impossible mix of how we aren't meant to care because he's so fun yet all the pity parties he and others threw for him. At least Lucky and Jason do have some regrets, even if the show hasn't done enough with them.

Luke was an awful human from the jump.  The show worked to redeem him in the 80's and 90's.  I actually liked 90's family man Luke.  Once the rape was revealed and everything was said out loud I feel like Tony Geary stopped caring.  There is nothing fun about an aging,  alcoholic, rapist pulling scams and ditching town when things got rough.  Everyone's narrative about how that is just the way Luke is was disgusting.  This is a show that has Sonny as the current hero though.

Jason will never actually be a good person unless he ditches Sonny and Carly and changes his life-which won't happen.  Lucky still is a good person at heart and has a chance to turn this around and I hope he does.

Jason and Lucky are getting passes here, but I do think they at least acknowledge some of their failings while characters like Luke didn't even seem to care.

I give them that... at least in their most-recent returns.

With Felicia I see it like this when they recast KS as Maxie , KW wanted to go on contract but Brass was like no, so she went to college. GH recast with Sandra Dee Robinson but it failed and Flea was sent off to care for Mariah.

When Georgie was killed KW brought Flea back but I feel JFP /Guza wanted to punish KW for choosing college over the show. Flea became a deadbeat who chose Frisco over her kids

At least the 2012 return got Flea/Maxie back in a good place.

Interesting.  I didn't even think of Felicia's return.  It's just usual GH misogyny that Felicia's absence was greater because she was the mom.  Maxie and others did give Frisco a hard time too.  In some ways I can understand the Felicia thing though.  Emotions were very raw since her daughter was just brutally murdered.  She's redeemed herself though.

Felicia's 2012 return was one of the good things the "writer" did do right, and when the two actors fired themselves, they put her on as a series regular, which was a SMART use of budget!!

I thought Felicia's return was good in 2012.  I can still see why the comparisons are happening, but it's different IMO.  Georgie had just been murdered everyone was shocked, in mourning, and raw.  If Felicia returned out of the blue 6 months earlier I don't think the reactions from friends/family would be as harsh.  Felicia is someone who completely redeemed herself to me, so it's more bad judgement and a character flaw she worked to improve and then be there for her family and Mac.  It's actual growth!

Exactly; Maxie's calling her out at the funeral, while harsh, was warranted. Absolutely warranted. She really did come back and attempted to redeem herself, as well as rekindle her lost love with Mac, which allowed him to be brought back into the fold more.

Exactly.  I hate Felicia was painted that way because the show decided they didn't need Kristina anymore, but at least she got her own happy ending.

I tend to think the show did Lucky dirty too.  Sure, Jackson leaving was his choice, but the show could have thrown out some mentions that Lucky was at least in contact with Aiden.  I obviously see the drama in the deadbeat aspect and get why the show did that, but it's a bit much with Jason having a similar father/son relationship.  I do think the show wants to rebuild Lucky, so I hope that does happen.

Felicia's 2012 return or rather the rehabilitation of her character was pretty superficially written IMO, which was common for Ron Carlivati at that time - all callbacks and exposition, all short FV-style scenes. But they did put in the time with keeping her around, having people talk about things at least and hold her accountable, etc. and that did enough for me. They made her part of the fabric of the show again and it redeemed her in full.

I just thank God things went as south as they did with Jack Wagner BTS, because otherwise Ron might have legit tried to reunite Felicia and Frisco and leave Mac in the dust again. I couldn't have forgiven that. I'm still mad as I think it was RC who began the modern practice of having Maxie call Mac anything other than "Dad" regularly again, though I may be imagining that.

Ron was absolutely heading down the Frisco/Felicia reunion train.  Mac was doing all those ridiculous things out of jealousy and reduced to performing with a puppet at the Nurse's Ball as if he had no right to be concerned.

I always thought Maxie switched back and forth between calling Mac dad and Mac even before Ron.   I thought Georgie was the one who always called Mac dad.

I should clarify because I don't feel like editing-I was mostly talking about Felicia's return in 2007 when Georgie died in my comparisons to Lucky.  I still liked her separate 2012 return, but my post makes it sound like it was the same return lol.

Same; I have that same memory!

As great as it was seeing Laura and Lucky share scenes again, having Laura make excuses for her deadbeat son for most of it, was not what I had in mind.

I've only been watching a few weeks, but this whole murder plot is boring and uninteresting. Can we wrap it up soon?

Agreed, but I kind of loved the scenes with Laura and Lucky. I've never experienced them before as I took a ten-year break during their earlier time (90's?). Don't know Lucky at all, but obviously he's a crier. Genie was as good as ever.

Nice to have some emotion in the scenes lately, all around.

A shame Mulcahey isn't around to write any of this stuff with Lucky; he would have given it depth. The new writers attempts at character are so thin and shallow. All the characters have suffered and regressed with Mulcahey's departure.

Sonny is looking more stupid now than ever. Maybe Maurice doesn't have much power behind the scenes after all, if he can't do anything to change this crap they are having him play.

Probably the character most affected is Jason. Any buzz from his return is long gone. What's his point now? Is it building to anything? You wonder if this will be Lucky's fate too in a couple of months, a return that's fizzled.

The show just feels so stupid, contrived, and repetitive.

I tend to agree Jason's return story was one of the most affected by all the backstage changes.  I never expected a Jason return to revitalize GH or be a ratings hit, but all the set up with the FBI, his kids, Carly, falling out with Sonny, etc just disappeared and now were a back to status quo with Jason/Sonny/Carly in only a few months.  Like someone said yesterday, the show has just become predictable.
