In front of the stage, on the floor below Nancy and Genie,
facing the audience, in the wheelchair with blond hair,
is Nancy's friend Michelle Strojny.
Michelle is battling ALS, and she is the inspiration for Nancy to support ALS research.

I see that Neil Bagg was a talent agent who died of ALS in 2012.

Just to put everything on one thread:

Nancy interviewed by SOD March 13, 2024
https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/general-hospitals-nancy-lee-grahn-alexis-on-her-star-studded-fundraiser/

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) has been hard at work planning a star-studded ALS fundraiser that will take place on May 4 in Glendale, CA.

“This is going to be a really classy event for ALS, where all monies are going to ALS,” begins Grahn. “It’s crossing over to all the soaps, so we have big players from all the soaps coming.”

While ALS factors into Grahn’s current on-air life as Alexis, whose friend and colleague, Gregory, is battling the disease, the cause is actually close to Grahn’s heart for a different reason.

“I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause.

We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.

I thought, ‘We should gather together, have a fun day and night, and raise money!’ It’s called Daytime Unites, and it’s my hope that we do it again next year for another meaningful, underfunded cause.”

The event will feature not only opportunities to mix and mingle with the stars, “a really fun panel with the actors with some games and autographs, but a concert, as well,” the actress reports. “It should be a really fun event. It starts at one and will probably go until about nine or 10 at night. We need to sell lots of tickets and every penny is a tax deduction and will go to ALS,” she stresses.

They had several fundraising methods.
1) buy a ticket to the event.
2) donate to ALS One via the event website.
3) donate something to the silent auction or buy something from the silent auction.

edit to add:
4) items donated for the raffle, attendees purchasing raffle tickets.

These are the items and opportunities available at the auction.
The auction might be closed now but you can still see the listings
https://live.classy.org/auction/new-event/05132560-5958-4aa6-8bf3-7c25f4f4b882

Items included
a Y&R signed script from Victor and Nikki's 1984 wedding.
a B&B signed script from (not sure, but I think it says episode 3921).
Special lunches or zoom events with a few actors, including Thorsten Kaye, Kathkleen Gati, Wally Kurth, Cameron Mathison.
Hats, coffee cups, etc. signed by actors.
set tours of B&B and Y&R
Photos signed by actors

Updating this post much later on, with more info:

  • Actually I think there were lots more items; but the ones that were sold earlier are no longer showing on the list.
    .
  • At one point, I could see a bids page,
listing actual names or "anonymous" ...
with those who had won a bid paying X amount at the auction.
In some cases, I saw that people had bid hundreds of dollars or a thousand dollars for something (but it didn't say what they bid for).

--------------

One item was donated by a fan:
The fan painted watercolors of GH characters.

EDIT - These watercolor prints were prizes for raffle tickets purchased at the event.

    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
