I did some screenshots of memorable moments that I liked from the trailer. Thanks for @te. for providing a link to the trailer, since I can't open the link from Germany.

I trust MVJ to not deliver Tyler Perry-level schlock.

Same; they're two different levels of producer/writer. Two very, very different. And to clump them together feels... do I need to say the word? No? Awesome.

The promo has 2K views on YT. Hopefully it's getting better exposure on bigger socials like TikTok and X.

CBS has the video Unlisted on YouTube for some reason so that is impacting its ability to pick up more views - Unlisted videos on YouTube are not picked up by the algorithm because they are intentionally set to not appear in search results or on a channel's public video listings.

So, I guess, Essence posted that article a lot sooner than CBS was probably intending to release the extended trailer to the masses, lol.

Unlisted? That's odd. 😳

I think releasing the trailer to Essence first says a lot about the core demographic CBS is prioritizing for this show - black women. Yes, I am sure they want a wider base of viewers, but black women over-index for daytime viewership and that is the demographic this show will need to be strong in to be a lasting success. They've said as much about this unserved demographic when the show was first greenlit as well.

The type of commercials buying airspace on the show should be interesting as well. I have to believe products specifically geared to black women will be given a priority (as they should).

At the risk of offending anyone am I the only white European person who just doesn't "get" Tyler Perry, but gets what exactly they're going for with this trailer? Maybe there's something subtle in the language or just anything else, but it connects.

Tyler Perry's shows are weird where it's just trash-o-rama. It's more like they justify their behavior because they're black (which oddly feels racist in a roundabout way?), not the other way around. Does that even make sense?

The teaser was unlisted until publications published it that it were given to. So, it's likely unlisted for a period of time where it's meant to be for Essence and then it will be properly listed. The thumbnail is even missing from the video.

The extended trailer gave me everything I needed and more, my goodness. So many great moments and high octane drama that actually looks like a fun ride instead of misery central. The overall acting and production values are solid. Seeing all of these melanated faces soaping it up as leads with agency and not just tokens feels like such a blessing to be able to witness. Seeing a black Grandfather bonding with his Grandson specifically is such a rarity in tv and film so those scenes in the trailer really hit me man.

Karla Mosley’s Dani really is the star here, I can’t wait to watch her be vengeful and wreak havoc. Bill taunting her and Vernon put him on my people to watch for list as well. The Dupree’s showing up to his wedding dressed in all black is freaking hilarious. 😂I’m excited to see the mistress trying to fit in with the elite of Fairmont Crest and be given hell.

The Tyler Perry comparisons have never washed with me btw. There is a very obvious layer of mockery and self hatred present in all of his work that thankfully hasn’t been in any of the material showcased for BTG so far. I trust MVJ to maintain that.

Unfortunately, yup. It's like all those "self-aware" "gay" shows that are just so gay that they become completely unrelatable because they're all about being gay (absolutely not heterosexual). I find them completely unrelateable because they're not true to life despite being directed at me. And then how can anyone else find them relateable? At best, they end up being a joke and a punch line.

I'm sorry for ranting.

It's odd and I don't feel like explaining it but yeah. I think Val Jean knows about universal feelings while also making it interesting and not trying to bland it down. I guess that's my hope for BTG if I can project my feelings for a nervous minute lol.

The trailer already has me going back through all the past cast/character announcements which put a persona and thumbnail sketch to the various daughters, sons, cousins, etc. The whole bit with the young woman being run off the road hits different when you realize who (I think) that is and what baggage she apparently has.

I have a feeling Nicole's 'perfect' husband Ted may be the other dark horse here - I find that whole summary pretty ominous while the promos have us deliberately honed in on messy Dani and her family drama. Though for someone who was always very lukewarm on Karla Mosley in the past (though I admittedly haven't seen much of her B&B work) I think I, like the rest of us, may end up ride or die for Dani Dupree.

Perceived mockery and self-hatred aside, the man has a huge audience and there's a reason for that. I'll leave it at that.

Eventually, I'd want an aunt that's introduced as "having toured in Europe in the 70s and 80s":

But then again, Ron is on the writing team so abort abort, he'd turn it into a campfest in a  bad way.

  • Member

Ron, luckily, has no creative power as he's just a breakdown writer.

Previously, the Bell and P&G soaps existed in the same universe. Do we think BTG will take place in the same universe (if loosely) as the Bell soaps? Will the Newman's and Forrester's suddenly mentioning having business dealings with the Dupree's? lol

I would be surprised if they don't leverage the Bell/P&G linkages at some point. It's easy eyes on the show with various guest characters.
