I think he's going to end up being right.

Perceived black behavior and stereotypes.

Angry black women, angry and murderous minded black men, downlow black men, drug dealers, male and female prostitution. All of it. This show will be an agenda, like this guy thought months ago. But again, I'm here for it.

You are here for something... But it's definitely not BTG.

Andre gonna smash the HELL outta Smitty. Or it might be the other way around. That white supremacy and all. I hope he doesn't betray his cousin. SMH

Sure it is. 🙄 Hmm, looking around, I heard that there was someone here who is just full of it, wonder if I'm in the right place, at the right time.

Ring, Ring.

Hello, is this the office of the NAACP in Atlanta? Yes? Okay, I'm writing an article about the new daytime drama on CBS, BEYOND THE GATES. Yes. Thank you. Now, I only have 1 question for you. Can you confirm that this is going to be "black porn"? [Line goes dead.]

What does this mean? She had a hand in Generations which failed miserably.

Dude, you are having a nervous breakdown across this entire thread because they didn't write your fanfic characters into the show.

Take a break before we all block you.

I think comparing "Generations" and "Beyond the Gates" seems like a necessary evil, but it's two entirely different shows in terms of audience. "Generations" was about integration; white characters and black characters having a (relatively) equal footing. "Beyond the Gates" is offering its audiences a daily African American soap opera. Those aren't the same things. With that said, I initally assumed it would be, but then the finalized cast list showed this is (at this moment) a predominantly black soap, not integrated. That is interesting to me.

I wasn't thrilled when it was revealed that Robert Guza was on the writing team, but I remind myself that he isn't the creator/headwriter. Guza and Val Jean are friends. I don't see him usurping her role. I see him elevating her material, which I remember being fairly strong when she wrote GH in 2001 if not lighting the world on fire. Additionally, Guza's work paired with Millee Taggert on "Loving" was pretty strong for a show that typically wasn't. Together, they wrote the initial Shana / Leo romance, the Curtis / Dinahlee / Clay triangle, and handled the tailend of Ally's pregnancy with Cooper's baby. I hated the Curtis / Tess / Buck backstory (which had a lot of Guza trademarks in my opinion looped in with some of Taggert's tropes), but it cannot override the good.

To be honest, I have several heavy hitters in this thread on ignore so I am sorry if this was mentioned already, but I don't think it was:

Spoiler

The script that revealed that Dani was arrested also stated this was the day of Bill and Hayley's wedding so it would seem there would be at least some fairly strong days very early on if you are arresting one of the major antagonists in the same episode you are marrying off a power player and his new younger bride.

I am looking forward to this show. Happy we are approaching the premier in under 2 months.

I know 2 things about Taggert that I find very interesting. On GL Cassie read Mary Oliver's poem "Wild Geese" at Richard's funeral. Then, also on GL Ed read an ee cumming's poem. Both of those things were done because of Taggert. So Taggert has a poetry thing. "Wild Geese" is my favorite poem. In it Oliver makes the point that the heart wants to love what it wants to love. Then she makes another point which is that you are not required to walk through the desert on your knees to prove that you are worthy of love. I just thought other soap fans might be interested in this because, you see, I am.
