Anyone else curious about the source of the Dupree's wealth?

Uhm... Vernon is a retired Senator and Anita was once a successful singer. Not that curious I'd suspect.

You'll have to forgive me for asking a very basic and simple question. I just wondered beyond that if they had some kind of a lucrative family business, like several wealthy soap families have and had in the past.

Nothing was outlined in the casting breakdowns or cast announcements, so unless it's back story, I'm pretty sure what we know of their careers is where their source of income is from.

It was something I always expected to happen. The writing for these characters still seems to be mediocre but I guess we will see if the quality of writing for BTG will really challenge the remaining soaps to step up their standards.

If it had only happened 30 years ago, we might still have most of our soaps on the air. Everyone knew that black women made up a huge part of the soap audience and they didn't act on it. Y&R is the worst of the bunch, imo.  Bill Bell set them up for success, but it was wasted.

For those reasons, in the back of my mind, I guess there is some lingering concern about having too many of the same people who presided over the deterioration of daytime soaps presiding over the production side of BTG. I know they need a certain number of experienced hands if they want to hit the ground running but a few of the names don’t really inspire a whole lot of confidence but I am keeping my mouth shut and my mind open on this, with hopes for the best.

I'm not pressed about Bob Guza personally. I have plenty of past beef with him but when it comes to events and eyeballs that man knows his business. And in the end, this is MVJ's show and the entire daily writing staff is Black.

Speaking of, though: If we can avoid spamming the thread of a Black-centric soap opera with photos of predominantly the white male actors, that's probably a good rule of thumb/taste. 🍵

You would think so.

Lawd! I hope these writers don't mess this up. We cannot have this show looking bad and being ruined before it even has an actual chance.

Again, as long as I don't feel like I'm watching a "Good Times" or "Jeffersons" rerun when I tune in for the first time, I'll consider the show to be a success, lol.

Lol. You're probably not going to feel like you're watching either of these. I discovered a couple of other message boards and one Youtube video already sizing it up as The Haves and The Have Nots. I suppose it'll be interesting to see if they end up being right.

I'll trust in Michele Val Jean over some randos or people's personal fanfic.
