I understand how international distribution works and most shows don't get an international release right away. Regardless I still don't understand what makes a show with a mostly Black cast not marketable overseas.

You're not meant to; don't pay attention to someone trying to spew a racist POV.

BTW, scrolling Facebook and came by a pic of Monti Sharp (aka David Grant - GL), totally underrated and might be good casting.

Yes. Cast him as "Lester Fine", Sam Richardson's friend/business partner in the plastic surgery private practice.

While it might seem like Beyond the Gates came from a clear blue sky for us, I'm pretty sure CBS has weighted pros and cons of every angle they're taking with their approach to this show. And yes, international revenue is a part of that - if that was a major concern they'd probably skip the political angle completely. I don't think international revenue has - in general - ever been priority for the majority of soaps (B&B is the exception, rather than the rule), so they're probably viewing that part of the income stream as bonus rather than a given in terms of profitability.

Ultimately, there's been talk about replacing The Talk for a couple of seasons now. They didn't decide to order a new soap on a whim and they're not just muddling through. CBS has in general been very good at cultivating their audience in an era where linear television is dying.

I'm not giving that troll any attention, but I will say that I have faith that this show will be good. We have a new producing partner in the NAACP, we have someone who is experienced in soaps at the helm who has a history of producing good work. MVJ also had recent experience working on a primetime show and based on that I do feel that she knows what's going to work for a Black audience in 2025. She also had Guza on hand who we know can create a ratings grabbing stunt like no other. I also think the fact that they're filming in Atlanta is smart because they'll have better access to Black actors and their budget won't be eaten up by the high rent of a studio in LA.

Until they give me a reason to worry, I'm not worried and so far they've done everything right, down to when they've made announcements about the show. We've gotten a steady stream of information as we head into filming within the next two weeks. It's only up from here and I'm excited for what's to come.

Yeah, I won’t respond either, except to say that as a writer, you are dooming your own work to failure if you focus on who isn’t going to like what you have written or created. That is a guaranteed recipe for failure.

Monti Sharp (or his agent) is someone BTG casting should be on the phone with, for sure.

On a side note, I’m not sure why trolls come for me first but I learned my lesson from the Cancelled Soaps thread. Do not engage. Maybe I need some repellent or something.

Cropped the screen to give a better idea of the set:

Clearly getting ready to film either next week or the week after.

I'm pretty sure it was previously reported that November 4 was the first day of shooting, which is a week from TODAY!

Yup, per a previous-release, this is the shooting time for the current "season" of the soap (I hate saying soaps have seasons, considering they air year-round).

I am thinking it will start airing for Feb sweeps

Eh, everything seems to indicate a January debut date. They could've easily ordered more The Talk episodes if they decided to air it at a later date.

It would never happen, but it would be cool if between The Talk and BTS they did classic episodes of B&B and Y&R showcasing some of their best storylines with their Black characters. I wonder what they'll ultimately put in the timeslot during the gap.

I assume The Talk re-runs plus maybe post-election coverage. It ends December 6th so that's at least a month before the earliest start date though (January 6th).

Honestly, it would be pretty cool if they did a week of behind the scenes specials leading up to BTG since they could use the CBS News infrastructure.

ETA: I checked and last year they took a break from new The Talk episodes from December 15 to January 2nd. They're basically just ending it a week earlier than their usual winter break.
