I forgot to watch this! I think had the Creator remained with the show it would've found it's footing creatively and been able to bounce back in the ratings.

Stephen Bochco despite creating classics like Murder One and NYPD Blue was all wrong for this type of show and sealed it's fate. Mark-Paul Gosselear was a terrible addition to the cast and the characters became shallow and one-dimensional.

I completely forgot about this weeks episode, so I have no clue how Bochco's replacement is doing. BTW, that is his name right? I have a feeling I'm misspelling it or something.

I don't see how this show is cancelled, why even bother to bring it back then??? I'm really pissed that they didn't make any changes they need to bring back the original music, get rid of Mac's mommy in the white house, her husband should not be working for her he needs to focus on being the first man, and get rid of mark-paul Gosselar. It was a good eppy, but they still need to make some change.

The new EP is Dee Johnson...I remember she formerly was a producer on Melrose Place.

Can somebody explain the ratings situation with this show?

I could have sworn that when the season began, the show was constantly in the Top 20, alongside NBC's "Medium," the latter of which is considered a hit (or has that started dropping too?) Now, suddenly, "Commander in Chief" is being touted as a ratings failure by Access Hollywood, or whatever that show is.

Did the show suddenly stop performing well after its initial couple of weeks, or are we living in times when a Top 20 show (out of 100-plus) is not good enough? I KNOW for a fact that the show was in the Top 20 at least three times.

I think when Rod Lurie the creator of CIC was "out" the show went through creative changes and was therefore off for a while to give Steve Boncho time to adjust, that hurt ratings. Then when they came back the show sort of lost focus to what Lurie had intended and what it was when it premeiere and that hurt the ratings, plus coupled with the American Idol 2006 debut who CIC was competing against hurt ratings. And now it's been gone for awhile again, therefore perhaps hurting ratings and on a new day. We'll see.

If this show gets canned, it's on ABC's head. I know scrips were slow in coming, but if they never would have pre-emted the show, it would not have lost viewers. Whoever botched this should be canned.

Shane, with the behind the scenes shake ups (Bochco's vision was very unpopular) and being up against House, the show really dropped in the ratings.

Thanks Chris! It did have a few good weeks, though, right? At the beginning.

Sad, sad situation to be blamed on ABC. I guess they want everything to have DH, Lost, Gray's #'s, and that's just not possible. They should be ashamed: not three years ago, the network was at the bottom of the barrel (a position now held by NBC).

    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
    • The first show I found had Maeve dressed horribly, and I just shook my head and thought she must've been thrilled to be portraying someone much more sophisticated and rich. Vanessa's hats and gloves probably cost more than her AW character's entire wardrobe.
    • It is the least aware sobriety memoir I've ever read. No spoilers, but where was the editor to ask what she learned from all the stories in her life?
    • Well awards like these are certainly different from big name award shows in a few ways but this is an awards show, not a poll. Not the same gravitas, not the same cachet, etc. but an actual awards presentation show is going to happen. We Love Soaps used to have one. The Webbys, etc. various.  But if you are aware of a better place for this to be posted, then say so, but to be clear, NOT A POLL.
