I counted the first few Emmys where there was only one category for men and women each as leads. I also grouped the younger performer wins in with actress or actor.

Most surprising, I think, is OLTL having the most wins in the Lead Actress category.

I’ll have to recount. Maybe I switched them accidently.

It’s mostly because of Erika Slezak’s 6 wins. I think it’s interesting that GH leads every category except that one where they’re near the bottom.

I have the official Emmy winners by category guide book that I got some years ago (without realizing it), and OLTL won 10 in Lead Actress, mostly by Erika Slezak as pointed out earlier:

  1. Judith Light (1979-1980)
  2. Judith Light (1980-1981)
  3. Robin Strasser (1981-1982)
  4. Erika Slezak (1983-1984)
  5. Erika Slezak (1985-1986)
  6. Erika Slezak (1991-1992)
  7. Hillary B. Smith (1993-1994)
  8. Erika Slezak (1994-1995)
  9. Erika Slezak (1995-1996)
  10. Erika Slezak (2004-2005)

Susan Haskell also won in 2009.

GH has won Best Show so many times that I suggested the awards be renamed the Port Charles Memorial Awards. (Relax, it's a joke.)

WOW, love data, no way around that. I will say that The Doctors are forever the only soap to be the first one to win Best Show. And, only Mary Fickett won against a field of males. And, as far as I know only P&G has had others to successfully mount a shut-out against them.

Looks like they had a typo. They had her listed, but for some reason, they put her down as being from The Young and the Restless. I guess because Jeanne Cooper won the previous year? Odd.

Wishful thinking, perhaps?

"The role of Victoria Newman will now be played by Susan Haskell."

Funny how dominant GH is in every category but Lead Actress. Obviously, the Lead categories are known for having several performers with multiple Emmys in those categories (Slezak, Geary, Flannery, Bergman, Zimmer, Le Blanc, Benard, Canary, Gallagher, Maura West, JMW, et al), so some of those numbers are padded. 11 of GH’s 12 Lead Actor wins are just from Geary (8) and Mo (3).
