I mean, Ezra is a toad, period. I do think DC gave a bit of nuance to those moments with Genie where Boyle warned her about how Sidwell could destroy lives and he's seen it before - I suppose you could tell a little tragic yarn of a story about this once-idealistic man who is now kind of a sad, pathetic joke. But I don't think there need be much more to him. I think if this Sidwell, etc. saga goes on much longer it is only a matter of time before Boyle ends up like Judge Herron.
(I initially thought the scene with Dante and Nathan where Nathan mishandled evidence a few days ago, a clear tipoff, was about the Herron case. It wasn't, but it did admittedly make me wonder if Nathan executed the judge for Sidwell.)
