Is anyone having any luck with any of the new microblogging sites?

I've tried Post, but it is mostly news and information without an interactive community of comments.

Mastodon feels underdeveloped and underpopulated.

And I just got an invitation to Bluesky, but I haven't signed up yet.

I want something that is intelligent and provocative without being incendiary and poorly monitored for falsehoods.  And although I am entertained by TikTok it mostly feels like a self-created ad machine

The Threads setup was super simple, it automatically imports all of your Instagram follows and followers.  I don't have many concerns about data mining, in fact, I prefer ads tailored to what I am searching for.  It looks exactly like twitter, and because it comes from Meta, all the news and information sites are already proving information.  So far, so good.

I wonder if it will be a VHS v Betamax thing because Instagram doesn't allow nudity, but twitter does?  If history tells us anything, porn always wins.

On Spoutible, Profile has a company line with a checkmark box to use it as your Display Name. Right now mine is "AMPTP: Pay the Writers!" & I flip back & forth with it & my actual Display Name. Kinda cool.

The Spoutible emoji set has at least 2 emojis of Spoutible images.

Explore wasn't working but is now.

#daysofourlives and #soapspouts are working hashtags.

Definitely has the look & feel of twitter only working well & lots of friendly people assisting #newuser

Seems like it's doing impressive numbers and getting good press thus far, and I'd love to see an adequate Twitter replacement take over. But functionality-wise... I use Twitter for way different things than I use Instagram for. I don't necessarily want my soap discussion friends to be following my Instagram, or for all my family and friends who follow me on Insta to be seeing my soap discussions or whatever (not even that I CARE about them seeing it, it just seems weird to be serving that stuff to them). I dunno, having them all linked doesn't make it very appealing for me.

I don’t know if this is true but I have heard that because IG and Threads are linked, you can’t terminate your Threads account without terminating your IG account.  I would imagine that this would be unappealing even for people who already have FB, IG and WhatsApp accounts.

Since I don’t nor will I be using anything Meta universe, it clearly doesn’t concern me but it does make me chuckle to see how Zuckerberg and Musk are insistent on playing out their Pete Becker fanboy fantasies.

My views on all of this are about a minute in.

I despise Elon, and the untold bigotry (yes it was already there, I can't put that on him) he and his blue check system and his amplification of hate and fear through his "!!!" "concerning" replies. The problem is Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg play for the same team, even if Uncle Jack spends all his time smoking dope and telling you how hot his 19 year old girlfriend is, while Uncle Mark stares at the wall and occasionally asks you where the bathroom is.

I'm fully aware that is not what Zuckerberg based his site name on, but, especially given our current climate, an app with the same name as a film about out of touch elites leading us to slow, painful deaths isn't even on the nose - it is the nose. And even as the site has made sure to tell us that they censor female nipples, I have seen no effort to stop hatemongers like libs of tiktok from joining up. Facebook radicalized so many into hate and violence - why would this site be any different?

There are still a few people on Twitter I want to read, and I still feel more of a trust with the site, ludicrous as that sounds. If or when that changes, I don't know where I will go. I've heard a few of you mention Spoutible, even if I'm guessing by the time I get there only five people will be left.

I know Conservatives are whining that Threads is censoring them. Basically they can't do what they do on Twitter

Don’t they have Truth Social? Why don’t they stay on that sh*tty app? Or they can just stay and go down with Twitter as it deteriorates.

Wait…is Meta charging for check marks too?😂

Truth Social and Parlor, I believe... it's hilarious.  They want all of the platforms to themselves, yet Liberals are the problem... sure, Jan.  Sure.
