What I forgot, and got reminded by in the Deadline article, is that soaps are literally the ONLY productions still running with no hope of shutting down. So why aren't networks producing more of them? If they could care less about a strike impacting their productions, why not go out and produce more of them? They are WAY cheaper to produce than a lot of TV content and don't take as long to edit like reality TV does, particularly with the insertion of those personality comments needed for each high point in a reality storyline.

Just a thought.

And these days, only the parent series are doing well. Their spinoffs, not so much. GMA3 is barely doing numbers higher than it did two years ago and the TODAY sequels have just faltered. Then again, the parent shows have long since missed their heyday numbers.

Since I have been out of the television writing pipeline loop for several years now, I have a question and it’s a genuine question, not meant to be sarcastic: do writers, particularly those fresh from pre-professional programs really want to write for a daytime soap these days?

One of the comments said something like ‘hire new writers’ but I wonder, where would they get them from? I am not sure if anyone who really cares about their ability to work for other genres would want to write for a daytime soap where they’d have to resort to Fi-Core, it is a status that marks you for the rest of your career. If writing for a soap is your only ambition, it won’t matter but it seems like a career stranglehold if you want to eventually write for other genres of television.

Saw pix. ED was with Sara Bibel proudly holding a SAGAFTRA sign.

New today about IF they go on strike Wed. Frankly it's common sense. They can't act & they can't promote acting projects.

But, no, it does not apply to soap actors.

And, in other news there is a pic elsewhere of Fran Drescher in Italy with a Kardashian. Why the heck is she not at the negotiating table?

    • Not me, I am having withdrawals, I need that soapy drama lol
    • I faintly remember the tv movie where Ted Danson played the lead.. my late mom liked the movie and she also read a few of the novels and enjoyed them.

    • Paula and Jeanne’s first time writing Alex and Stephanie. It didn’t seem like there were any changes in Alex at all lol but I can’t help  but think that that’s more on RSW than the writing. I didn’t see a big change with Stephanie either, but I did enjoy her scenes with Kayla, whose character has gotten so much stronger since last week. I hope we get to see a lot more of their relationship, and their relationship with Steve as well. As for Steve and Shawn stealing the drug to try to save Bo, idk. I don’t dislike it, but I just don’t know lol but I also think that it is time for Steve to pass the torch on to the next hero.  And finally, Javi showed some kind of spark! I was a little worried in his first scene today that he was going to continue to be so obsessed with Leo, but him demanding that Leo drop the investigation into Rafe and Gabi could actually be pretty interesting. I don’t think that would’ve happened under Ron. And if we’re forced to endure Javi/Leo, let them at least have some kind of actual conflict, instead of the forced, biased crap that we were subjected to. And speaking of Leo, one year ago today, he got Dimitri’s letter

Btw, why is Gabi so beholden to Javi? Cousin or not, if I was her, the minute he said to her, “If he goes, I go”, I would’ve been like  Also, are they going to go there with Philip and Gabi? I’d prefer that than Gabi getting involved with Alex.
    • She does look good in blue. I wish they'd do more with her hair, change it up the way JMW does now and then
    • Hahaha - this is hilarious (and a ton of wigs at use!). The closing shot!!! LOL
    • Yes. I don't know if Lenore was ever asked. Then it became a nun. Thanks. I didn't realize it was in 1987. That timeline doesn't make a lot of sense even if she would have had Ed to interact with. If they didn't ask her back in 1989 and she was willing, what a stupid error. The attempts at these feuds, or even the whole families tied together stuff like Maryanne Carruthers, never had any real impact because of how depleted the Bauers felt even by the mid '80s. And instead of expanding them, which would have been common sense, various producers were just too lazy, or too ashamed, and kept bringing on other families, or bringing in too many people at one time and not knowing how to write for them (the Spauldings in the McTavish era - as SOD said at the time, everyone in the family had the same personality).
    • Wasn't there talk of them bringing back Rita as Gus' mother at one point? Or something?
    • I think they are a part of the same family, although Carla was never really scheming for the same reasons, and once her double life was exposed, she stopped.
