Alice’s abortion was not legal, while the first, the first legal abortion was Erica in AMC until the insane rewrite, once that happened I don’t know if Ashley became the first legal one after that happened. I think the special felt like they were doing Entertainment Tonight in an hour long format, but all the segments were done in the style of their short segments, which made it feel disjointed. ET has done some focus episodes on weekends years ago and they felt more cohesive than this, but since I haven’t watched that show in decades I don’t know what it is like now.

Alice???

Marianne Randolph on Another World had a legal abortion in 1975.  A few years after Erica.  Years before Ashley even appeared on Y&R.

And besides, Eileen didn't use the term "legal".  She said, "I believe Ashley had the first abortion on daytime."  So "legal" does not come into play.   Eileen said something completely untrue, and the producers of the special did not edit it out.   No excuse for that.   Entertainment journalists are journalists.  At least they used to be.

Maybe ED meant the first on Y&R, who knows.

Yeah, that was not cool. PB should be reminded that his first two Emmy wins were the result of weak competition in the Lead Actor category.

I thought it was a fun little special going into it with little expectation, the classic rarely seen clips and classic behind the scenes clips and pictures (the 1995 Jill and Katherine courthouse fight!!) were definitely a treat. The Thudley and Lauralee scenes were surprisingly poignant as was EB’s thank you at the end.

I definitely agree it definitely felt rushed and fast paced, I wish it had been a two hour special done something more in the vain of CBS Sunday Morning or something.

BTW what has happened to Penn Badgley?!

I knew Eileen's abortion comments and Peter's Emmy comments were gonna cause some traction. I missed the last 25 minutes so hopefully the episode turns up online.

As soap buffs we will never be fully satisfied by mainstream specials or documentaries because they often miss the mark and focus on overly sensational moments, or scenes replayed at nauseum. Such specials are typically aimed at layman audiences, more recent viewers, or surface level knowledge soap watchers. Again, an old school 60 Minutes level of pacing and explanation would work well for a soap special which has to tackle long and complex history. One section about memorable  storylines, another about show logistics, another about the actos, maybe even break the discussion up into decades to keep the narrative linear.

Re the actors claims that they were only going to be short term.

I think this may be because they were not given a contract as Bill Bell liked to see them on air and write the story based on what he saw. Also. if he wasn't feeling it, they might be replaced eg David Kimball, Sharon, April,John Abbott etc

In the case of Kimberlin, Scott etc he liked their delivery, decided to go with it and expand their story-thus they were  handed a contract.

How could she have meant the first abortion on Y&R, when she clearly said -- "I believe Ashley had the first abortion on daytime"???

There is no reason to make excuses for her, Eileen said something completely incorrect.  And that statement should not have been included in the special.

He also made a comment about the scene where Victor collapsed and Jack kicked him and I got the impression the kick was not part of the scene as written, that PB added it in himself.

    • Possibly.  I remember the "movie" being Jack/Jen, Bo/Carly, and John/Isabella centric.  I am assuming they are just recreating the idea of people/couples being brought together in a storm, which isn't very creative in the first place.  One Stormy Night was the worst of the 3 primetime movies too. Lol.  Fair.  Writing some press releases for her the two clients she has does not mean she can write what looked to be a 500 page novel. Stephanie spends 20 hours a day figuring out her love life anyway.
    • One Stormy Night was the name of the January 1992 Days primetime episode. https://www.jason47.com/days/episodeguide1992.html From jason47 bio of Jeanne Marie Ford:  when I was in high school, my best friend got me hooked on 'Days.'  She first worked on the "Days" staff in 1992 as an unpaid intern and soon after became the show's writer's assistant from 1992-1996. https://www.jason47.com/days/writersinfo.html
    • I have not been convinced any Stephanie since Shayna Rose can read.
    • The throwback, and the randomness of it all has me worried that Jamey had something to do with it.
    • As a PR person, she's undoubtedly written zillions of press releases and presentations, so I don't find it that much of a stretch. But it sure did come out of nowhere. I don't know if any soap has done particularly well with a book plot, though, so I'm apprehensive of where this will go.
    • Reminder for Tues. May 6 and Wed. May 7: Due to UEFA European Soccer Champions League Semifinals  Y&R and B&B may be partially disrupted in some timezones, but it's not an official preemption. (Same procedure as Tues. April 29 and Wed. April 30.) This soccer coverage will be broadcast live in the European evenings, which is 3-5pm Eastern USA, plus a 2-3pm Eastern prematch show. Total timeframe: three hours 2-5pm EDT on those four dates. On CBS only. BeyondTheGates: This fully officially preempts BTG in all timezones in USA and Canada. Tues. April 29, Wed. April 30, Tues. • Stephanie writing a novel is odd.  She's never seemed interested in writing or much of a creative type.  Is One Stormy Night a nod to the primetime Days episode from the early 90's?  That would literally have nothing to do with Stephanie, nor were any of the characters featured in that special closely related to her IIRC.  Although One Stormy Night isn't a super creative title or anything, so it's probably just a coincidence.  And, yes, it was very rude for Alex to just take Stephanie's personal, private writing without asking lol.
    • And its 2025, not the 1970s, 80s, 90s... just bc pre-emptions have been a thing for decades, doesn't mean there shouldnt already be ways to deal with it in the modern era. Airing th episodes in the markets that can and putting them up and directing viewers to CBS.com to see them for free and of course Paramount Plus for those subscribers, seems like a reasonable compromise. Today's tv market leans heavily towards streaming so there is no reason why they shouldnt leverage that when it comes to this
    • Anita Dupree is Ruth Marshall from Generations. Ruth also a past of being a singer who gave it up because of raising a family and having a husband.
