It's based on the whole narrative that "it's ok because Rick is a good man and Amber is a troublemaking gold digger", which hardly, because the entire time Rick was married to Amber he would blame her for things that weren't even her fault. Even when he was proved to be wrong, he walked out of it like he was giving Amber "another chance". He left Amber when she was clearly having a nervous breakdown over losing custody of Little Eric, something that was set in motion by him and Brooke.
